Why was the Saintess with that demon?
Hearing the title, Milly instinctively looked at Stacy. Before the knights appeared, she hadn’t changed at all.
In an instant, her hair had turned golden, and her loungewear had transformed into the holy robes Lillian had worn.
There was no reason for Stacy to turn into Lillian. With her usual habits, the knights should have been pierced by her tentacles by now.
Unless… a thought flashed in Milly’s mind.
Did Stacy think that killing the guards one by one was too boring, so she was pretending to be Lillian, using her identity to go see the old fool Pope?
It didn’t fit Stacy’s usual methods. She would have just killed them all.
“I’m just a little annoyed with the old fool Pope.”
As she spoke, not only the knights but even Milly was taken aback. What kind of reason was that? Just because she was annoyed, she could use the Saintess’s identity and bring a demon into the sanctuary?
Was Stacy deliberately trying to get back at Lillian? Although she didn’t know what their grudge was, after saying this in Lillian’s body, even if she could return the body later, Lillian wouldn’t be able to stay in the Church as a Saintess.
This was just ridiculous.
Just then, a cardinal appeared behind the knights.
“Trespassing in the sanctuary is a violation of the Goddess’s will. To do so with a demon is an even greater sin.” The cardinal’s face was filled with anger. “Don’t think that just because you are the Saintess, you can do whatever you want.”
Behind him, another cardinal with several knights appeared.
“The Saintess has been bewitched by the demon. We haven’t been able to find her since she disappeared. Now, she has been corrupted.”
The cardinal walked through the crowd and stood before Stacy, his eyes filled with pity.
“If Your Holiness is willing to repent and deal with the demon who has trespassed, and atone before the Goddess, the Goddess will forgive your sins.”
As he spoke, the knights echoed their agreement. Some had even drawn their swords, ready to chop Milly into pieces. Stacy just looked at them, her eyes growing cold.
“So… noisy.”
Stacy snapped her fingers. The cardinal’s expression froze. He didn’t seem to realize what was happening, but his body was paralyzed.
“Your Eminence?”
The knights didn’t see what happened. The other cardinal raised his hand, a bright magic circle glowing on it.
“The Saintess has fallen into the abyss, become an enemy of the Goddess. Now…”
Before he could finish, his body also froze, as if controlled by something.
The knights drew their swords, looking at the Saintess with a sense of unfamiliarity. After the snap of her fingers, she had done nothing else. But a more gruesome scene unfolded before them.
The first cardinal’s head suddenly twisted 180 degrees, his eyes rolling wildly, his mouth opening and closing, unable to speak.
The knights took a step back, alarmed. The two cardinals fell to the ground. From their mouths, writhing tentacles emerged, lunging at the nearest knight.
The knight’s armor was like paper before the tentacles, pierced through. Blood splattered, staining the robes below.
Not just from their mouths, but their bodies had become incubators for the tentacles. Massive tentacles burst from their bodies, their fangs inches from the nearest knight.
Screams filled the air. The pierced knights didn’t explode into a mist of blood as usual. They threw off their helmets and, under the control of the tentacles, lunged at their comrades, tearing off their helmets and devouring their flesh.
The sound of chewing mixed with screams. The pierced knights’ bodies also became new incubators, black tentacles bursting from them, searching for other living targets.
“That’s a pretty sick hobby.”
Looking at the bloody scene, Milly couldn’t help but comment.
Stacy’s body swayed slightly. “Don’t you think it’s interesting, Little Milly?” Her voice was sweet, but it sent a chill down Milly’s spine.
“So twisted.”
For Milly, the most effective and least painful way to deal with the knights would have been to just kill them with a bolt of lightning. Staring at the smile on Stacy’s face, a chill ran down her spine.
The tentacles had emerged from their bodies. Would her body also… If she had been on the opposite side, if Stacy hadn’t been holding back, the game would have been over before it even began.
Stacy noticed the look in Milly’s eyes. She took her hand, a familiar playful glint in her red eyes.
“Now, what is Little Milly thinking?”
“Nothing. Let’s go.”
As if waiting for her to say that, Stacy led her through the crowd of self-devouring people. As they walked, the blood on the floor parted, not a single drop staining their shoes.
As they went deeper, Stacy didn’t summon her tentacles as usual, but used Lillian’s body to release a blinding holy light. The knights stationed in the sanctuary melted like snow in the sun, their existence erased.
“So sharp. The holy light you believe in has become the means to kill you. And the one who released it is the Fell God you hate.”
“That’s a pretty sick hobby.”
Now it seemed that turning into Lillian was deliberate, using the Saintess’s identity to slaughter the Church’s knights. It was as if the Saintess had betrayed humanity and was now leading a demon to slaughter her former comrades. The knights died without understanding why the Saintess was with a demon, and why the symbol of holiness was now slaughtering them.
It really fit her twisted sense of humor.
The only problem was that their journey had been too smooth. Even though the knights had been slaughtered and the bishops who had tried to stop her had been consumed by the holy light, the Pope had not appeared. As if he didn’t care about their lives.
Right. For the ones behind the scenes, the dead were just data. Now that Milly knew the truth, she didn’t have to feel any guilt. They were just cold data. She just had to watch Stacy’s performance.
She didn’t have to do anything. If she did, she might just slow them down.
When they reached the innermost room, the Pope still hadn’t appeared, as if he didn’t care about their actions.
She pushed the door open. In the center of the room, Milly saw a dozen black stone pillars surrounding a glowing sphere. It was exactly the same as what she had seen in the Church’s underground, but back then, the pillars were broken and the text was unreadable.
Now, Milly could confirm that the language engraved on the pillars was from her own world. The only problem was that she wasn’t a computer science major. Recognizing it as a programming language was her limit. She couldn’t understand what the code said.
But the content of the pillars wasn’t important. What was important was the sphere of light. She used her appraisal skill on it. The text that appeared made her summon a bolt of lightning and strike the sphere.
