No, Milly knew perfectly well that this wasn’t a dream. What was happening before her was cold, hard reality.
Looking at her reflection in the black tea, Milly drained the cup in one gulp. Whether she drank too fast or it was the tea itself, after the sweetness faded, a faint bitterness lingered in her mouth.
Like the bitterness she had seen on someone’s brow, made manifest.
Their relationship was currently in a delicate balance.
Stacy needed her to find a way to leave this world, and perhaps use Milly to escape the fake world herself. In return, Milly needed Stacy’s power as a virus. She couldn’t fight the creator of this world alone.
If, hypothetically, Milly found a way to leave, but only she could go, leaving Stacy behind… or if only one of them could leave… would this delicate balance hold?
Just like this dream-like scene, the moment Milly found the way out, the dream might shatter.
“Is something wrong?”
Seeing Milly’s silence, Stacy’s warm breath tickled her ear.
Milly shook her head, clearing her thoughts. “Nothing.”
She looked down at the empty cup. She couldn’t see her reflection anymore.
“I just think… this is nice too.”
The comb seemed to pause for a moment, then continued to glide through her hair, gently untangling the white strands that reached her ankles.
After transmigrating to this world and becoming like this, it was truly wonderful that Milly hadn’t gone insane.
But she still had many questions. Although it was a created game world, everything was too real. Until she found the black curtain and the appraisal skill popped up the prompt, she hadn’t truly believed the world was fake.
Logically, a created virtual world, no matter how well hidden, would have anomalies. Common game bugs, like clipping, for example. Milly had been here for so long, but she had never seen any clipping. If she had, she would have noticed something was wrong sooner.
And now that she had confirmed her identity as a player and her appraisal skill had improved, she still hadn’t unlocked her player interface. By rights, it should have appeared automatically, giving her quests, guiding her step by step until she unlocked the way out.
Milly hadn’t received her player system, nor any new prompts. The only key information she had was still “Stacy” and “The Church.” It seemed completely clueless. Combining this with the fact that the person behind the old fool was a GM, Milly had reason to believe her player permissions had been forcibly locked. Perhaps only by dealing with the GM behind the old fool could she get her player permissions back.
But if she dealt with him, or even the creator of the virtual world, couldn’t they just give her back the logout button? At that point, getting back player permissions seemed pointless.
Headache…
There were too many problems on the surface. Not just the old fool she had to face, but also Stacy behind her. Her behavior was too weird, far from the image in her memory. It was as if she had suddenly…
Even her emotions were the same.
Before the fragile balance was broken, their relationship would remain in this unreal state. But given the current situation, this was the best she could hope for.
Facing the GM-controlled old fool was headache enough. Adding the old Stacy to the mix… Milly might really consider restarting.
You have to smile when you play games. If that happened, Milly would really curse the second half of that sentence.
The combing slowed down. It should be over soon.
Milly, who had never had long hair before, naturally didn’t know how to take care of it. She always let it hang loose. It was a miracle it hadn’t turned into a bird’s nest.
Besides simple combing, while thinking about her situation, Milly felt her hair being separated into several strands. Stacy’s cold fingers occasionally brushed her neck, bringing a chill.
Milly’s heart skipped a beat. She had thought it was just a simple combing. From Stacy’s movements, she seemed to be braiding her hair.
For Milly, who had never dealt with long hair, this was a hassle. For her, hair was just something that hung off her head. Luckily, this was a game world. Otherwise, with Milly’s habits, who knew what her hair would look like.
“Done.”
Stacy stopped, producing a bronze mirror and placing it in front of Milly.
“What do you think?”
Milly stared at herself in the mirror. Her long hair was woven into an intricate fishtail braid, starting from the top of her head and running down her spine, almost touching the floor. Each strand was woven evenly, shining like pearls in the morning light.
The end was tied with a dark red ribbon into a delicate bow. A few stray strands fell naturally on her forehead and behind her ears. Milly sighed in relief.
At least it wasn’t twin tails. Although it would suit this body, it didn’t suit Milly at all. Grotesque and ugly.
It was a bit troublesome, but much more convenient than loose hair. Stacy behind her seemed to chuckle. Bad, did she think she liked the hairstyle and was admiring it?
Just then, a few lines of transparent text appeared on the mirror surface. Reading them made Milly frown.
[Player Name: Milly]
[Login Status: Abnormal]
[Mental Status: Stable]
[Physical Status: Normal]
What did “Login Status: Abnormal” mean? And why did the name Stacy gave her become her player nickname?
“What’s wrong? Want to change it?”
“No… no need, this is fine.”
She smoothed her brow. The old problems weren’t solved, and new ones had emerged.
What a headache… the new problem was related to herself.
The reason she transmigrated to this world was definitely not simple. But Milly’s memory before transmigration stopped at the screenshot of the pentakill. She hadn’t clicked any strange links, hadn’t been hit by a truck.
“Let’s go downstairs. Breakfast is getting cold.”
Stacy’s gentle voice came from behind. Milly could only put aside the new problems for now. She left Stacy’s soft lap, put on the slippers by the bed, and followed Stacy downstairs.
