Chapter 134 : A Sudden Meal

Milly was hauled onto the carriage by an irresistible force.

Was she too skinny, or was Lisa surprisingly strong?

Lisa handed the reins to Milly.

Milly didn’t know how to drive a carriage. And she hadn’t agreed to go with Lisa.

Lisa handed her the reins.

It was an act of kindness, but Milly felt a surge of resistance.

To this innocent girl, she was just a distressed human girl. But when her true form was revealed, the girl would be terrified, or disgusted.

Just like the crowd at the judgment stand.

They had been filled with hatred for demons. They would want to tear her limb from limb.

If she didn’t run into any patrols or adventurers, it would be fine. But if she did, she would be recognized.

Then, she would have to knock them out.

Leaving now would be best for both of them. She would return the reins and jump off.

“Wait…”

“Here, open your mouth.”

“Are you hungry?”

“Hiss—”

The creaking of the carriage wheels. Lisa handed her the reins.

“Wait…”

She didn’t know how to drive. And she hadn’t agreed to go with Lisa.

“Grrr… grrr~”

An untimely rumble from her stomach cut her off. She instinctively covered it, swallowing her refusal.

The sweet scent filled her nostrils, and her rational mind crumbled. Desire overpowered reason. She instinctively opened her mouth, and a soft thing was placed inside.

Sweetness exploded on her tongue. Her body reacted before her mind. She took a big bite of the bread. Six days of starvation had broken her resolve.

She whimpered, licking the crumbs from her lips. She quickly swallowed the bread, her eyes on the rest of the loaf in Lisa’s hand. She reached out for it.

Warm honey dripped down her chin, glistening in the afternoon sun.

“Slow down, slow down, you must be starving.”

Lisa’s voice held unconcealed amusement. She gently wiped the honey from Milly’s lips. Milly didn’t notice the girl’s soft sigh. She was too focused on the bread.

She ate quickly. The sweetness filled her body and mind. She was sinking into the pleasure. Just as she was about to eat the last piece, she froze.

The taste… it was familiar. The taste she had dreamed of in the dungeon.

Her eyelashes fluttered. She looked at Lisa’s profile. She activated her appraisal skill, but no text appeared.

“Is there something on my face?”

Lisa scratched her cheek, then slapped her hands together. She had just thought of something. She took out another piece of bread, this time with blueberry jam.

“Here’s another one, if you’re still hungry.” Lisa took the reins, steering the carriage around the corner. Her hair shone in the sun. “How is it? My mom always says I use too much blueberry jam. Do you like blueberry jam, Milly?”

The bread was soft, but not fluffy. The bread was the children’s favorite in the village.

The sound of the wheels on the gravel mixed with Lisa’s cheerful voice. Milly took the bread and bit into it. The sweet and sour flavor of the jam filled her mouth. The long-forgotten scent of food made her pause.

“What’s wrong? Don’t you like it?”

Lisa’s voice was worried. She had devoured the first one. Why was she hesitating now?

“No, it’s delicious. Thank you.”

“I should be thanking you. I was getting bored driving alone. It’s nice to have company.”

Lisa hummed an off-key country song, sharing amusing stories about her village.

Milly listened quietly.

They didn’t run into any patrols or adventurers. She must be lucky.

They continued until sunset. When night fell, she could see the village in the distance.

“We’re almost there.”

She closed her eyes and activated her God’s perspective. The village was small. No wanted posters. She was safe.

The village was quiet at night, only a few lights in the windows. It was a different world from the one she knew.

“This is my home.”

Lisa stopped the carriage in front of a two-story wooden house covered in ivy. The garden was full of vegetables, and a washed work uniform hung on the clothesline.

“Grandpa should be asleep,” Lisa whispered, finger to her lips. “He’s hard of hearing. Let’s be quiet.” She pushed open the creaking door. “My parents are in Mecca Town. The guest room is a mess. You’ll have to share my bed tonight~”

Her voice was filled with excitement, like a little girl who had finally found a playmate.

Milly followed her into the house. From the moment she was pulled onto the carriage, she had been confused.

Why did this feel so familiar? She felt like she had seen this scene before. And that time, she had followed the person back to her door.

She shivered.

But she had checked Lisa twice. She had to be safe.

“You wait here. I’ll go tidy the bathroom.”

Lisa went upstairs. When she came back, she had a few changes of clothes for Milly.

“The bath is ready. I’ll make dinner.”

Milly held the soft clothes. Besides a nightgown, there was a brand new set of underwear. She had gotten used to not wearing any, but seeing the new set, her face flushed.

Wait… she hadn’t showered in days. Why was she worried about clothes?

She had completely accepted her new reality.

She went to the bathroom. Her dirty face stared back at her from the mirror. This was the first time she had a chance to see herself since awakening her appraisal skill.

She wondered if text would appear. The next moment, her pupils shrank.

A few lines of translucent text appeared on the mirror, clinging to her reflection.
