Dazzling lightning erupted from her fingertips, illuminating the dense fog like a flash of lightning tearing through the night sky. The hidden monsters were revealed, nowhere to hide.
Milly looked at the figure emerging from the mist. It looked familiar, similar to the Thunderwolf, the first monster she had encountered. But this one was covered in icy blue fur, as if coated in frost. Its eyes glinted with a cold, fierce light.
Judging by its aura alone, it was stronger than the Thunderwolf. But as a variant of the same species, it shouldn’t be that much stronger.
As if to prove her wrong, the Icewolf let out a piercing roar. The temperature plummeted. Unlike the Thunderwolf, which had charged immediately, the Icewolf walked toward Milly with measured steps. Frost formed wherever it stepped, like an ice tyrant surveying its domain.
Milly dismissed her initial assessment. Just from its gait, this Icewolf was terrifyingly strong.
“Lisa, hide.”
“Milly…”
Lisa’s hand trembled in hers. Her voice quivered with fear. “I don’t think there’s anywhere to hide.”
As if to confirm Lisa’s words, a roar echoed from the fog behind them, answering the Icewolf’s call. Then, roars erupted from all over the forest core, rising and falling in a cacophony of threats.
Milly frowned, looking at the Icewolf.
She had expected monsters stronger than the Shadowblade Beast. But this… she didn’t know about strength, but the sheer number was wrong.
Lisa’s grip tightened. Because of the fog, Milly had to release a burst of electricity to clear the area around them. Only then did she see Lisa’s pale face.
“Milly… are you a succubus?”
Feeling Lisa’s intense gaze, Milly was stunned. Lisa hadn’t used the “little sister” suffix. Her tone was familiar, as if that person, seeing the situation spiral, had decided to step in personally.
“Monsters here don’t gather like this. Usually, they fight over territory. For them to gather… hey, Milly!”
Milly ignored the rest. She only needed the first part.
Monsters here didn’t gather. They fought each other. Now, they were all here for her. The reason was obvious.
Something was terrified of her finding out what was on the other side. They were planning to swarm her to death. Unless they were holding a monster convention and just happened to pick this spot on this day.
Just her luck.
Milly ignored Lisa’s call. Since that person seemed ready to drop the act, Milly didn’t need to hide her demonic nature anymore.
As she charged at the Icewolf, a crimson light bloomed in her blue eyes. In an instant, they turned blood-red. The lightning at her fingertips surged. Staring at the violent energy, she unfurled her black bat wings. With a burst of speed, she appeared in front of the Icewolf.
Close range. But her lightning missed. Not because the Icewolf was faster, but because the moment she got close, the temperature dropped drastically. A cold that seemed to freeze the soul enveloped her.
Her body felt frozen, her speed plummeting.
The lightning missed the Icewolf before it could touch it.
The Icewolf didn’t attack. It roared at the sky, unleashing a wave of extreme cold mixed with ice crystals that covered a hundred meters. Even Lisa, standing far back, was affected.
As the cold spread, a violent blizzard seemed to erupt in the area. Even the thick fog froze, turning into countless tiny ice crystals suspended in the air.
Milly, at the center of the storm, looked like she was turning into an ice sculpture. A thin layer of ice covered her, making her look crystalline.
She tried to move, but her frozen body was stiff. Even releasing the lightning at her fingertips was difficult.
Seeing Milly seemingly frozen by the extreme cold, more roars came from behind her. Unable to lift her head, Milly couldn’t see how many more monsters had emerged. She could only watch the Icewolf approach with elegant steps, while footsteps approached from behind.
Was this the end for Milly?
A wicked smile touched the girl’s lips. Her body was frozen, yes. But she hadn’t needed to move from the start. With her appraisal skill, she knew the Icewolf’s ability. Getting close meant getting frozen.
Milly, who had always fought from a distance, had gotten close on purpose. Only then would the watching monsters join the fray.
Dealing with them one by one was too troublesome. And they were too far apart. She had to bait them in to take them all out at once.
Judging the distance of the footsteps behind her… they were close.
The Icewolf stopped in front of her, opening its mouth as if to swallow her whole.
Before it could, a strange smell of burnt ozone filled the air. The Icewolf’s ears perked up, alert.
But it was too late.
The electricity stored in her body exploded into a massive web, sweeping through every monster nearby like a hurricane. The Icewolf, moments ago confident of its victory, twitched on the ground, its eyes seemingly clearing.
The intense heat melted the ice on Milly. She stretched her stiff body. More grotesque monsters emerged from the fog.
As for the ones on the ground, Milly didn’t think the lightning would kill them. Stepping on the twitching paw of the Icewolf, she saw the killing intent return to its eyes.
Even knowing it was going to die, it still wanted to kill her, to stop her from finding the truth?
Monsters of this level usually wouldn’t fight to the death. As long as they were alive, they had a chance. But now, not only the fallen Icewolf, but the other monsters were rushing at her like a tide, mad with bloodlust.
Milly raised her hand toward them.
Since they gathered here, it was as if they were controlled by some unknown entity, determined to erase her.
“Endless pests.”
The next moment, a tearing pain in her palm. A black tentacle shot out, instantly piercing the body of the monster at the front.
