The episode with the sour and sweet fruits didn’t last long. As for the fruits Lisa had brought back, most of them ended up in Lisa’s stomach, fed to her by Milly.
But except for the one sour fruit Milly had picked out herself, the rest, according to Milly’s observation of Lisa’s micro-expressions, were all sweet and delicious. In the end, seeing that Milly wasn’t eating, Lisa took all the fruits away.
Why?
Was her luck really that bad? Out of all the remaining fruits, had she managed to pick the only sour one?
“Milly, are you really not going to try one? There shouldn’t be any sour ones left. They’re sweet and tasty.”
After hesitating again and again, Milly picked a random fruit from the few remaining ones. She had fed Lisa so many, and she hadn’t eaten a single sour one. It couldn’t be that her luck was truly abysmal, right?
She carefully brought the fruit to her lips and bit into the skin. The moment the juice touched her tongue, Milly threw the fruit away.
In that moment, Milly fell silent.
When the seal was broken, maybe she should try changing Broken’s form? Why be a holy sword? Wouldn’t a spear be better?
Indeed, if her luck was good, she would have started in a newbie village after transmigration, not in the final boss’s room. If her luck wasn’t bad, how could the first person she met be Stacy?
And later, when she first escaped from Stacy, she thought she was seeing the light of day, only to reveal her demonic form in front of everyone on the street, losing her chance to hide in Starlight City.
After that, she just happened to run into Stacy disguised as Eileen, was taken home, and then everything else happened.
And when she escaped from the Church dungeon, the moment she ran out of the cathedral, she ran right into the returning old fool and was caught. Could it be such a coincidence? She had just escaped, and the old fool had returned?
For a moment, Milly, reviewing her past experiences, fell completely silent. Since she transmigrated, nothing good had happened to her. And if some things weren’t arranged by someone, then it could only mean her luck was a bit too bad.
Seeing Milly’s pained expression after biting the fruit, Lisa cursed inwardly. Out of a whole pile of fruit, there might have been one or two sour ones. She had eaten so many and been fine. Why did Milly have to pick them all?
She picked one from the remaining fruits in her arms, took a small bite to confirm it was sweet, and then handed it to Milly.
“This one is definitely sweet!”
Milly just glanced at it and didn’t take it. For the current Milly, even if Lisa had tried it herself and knew it was sweet, Milly would never touch it again.
“Really? I tried it, it’s really sweet.”
Seeing that Milly still wouldn’t accept it, Lisa had to eat the fruit herself. As for the rest in her arms, she would have to eat them all. She had originally planned to pick some fruit while the soup was cooking and share it with Milly.
But the result was clear. Except for the sour fruit used for the prank, there were only two sour ones in the whole pile, and Milly had picked them both. Was this good luck or bad luck?
The fruit episode didn’t last long. Meanwhile, the vegetable soup in the pot was giving off a delicious aroma.
The soup was almost ready. Lisa pulled Milly to sit by the fire.
“This is my specialty. It’s definitely good.”
Lisa filled a bowl for Milly and handed it to her.
“Here, careful, it’s hot.”
Milly took the bowl from Lisa. The aroma spread with the steam. The sunlight fell on the vegetable leaves floating in the soup. Besides the leaves, there were also some sliced mushrooms. Unlike the writhing mushrooms in her memory, the ones in the bowl were normal and wouldn’t suddenly extend mycelium to wrap around her spoon.
The first sip slid down her throat, and Milly’s brow unconsciously relaxed. The taste was much better than she had imagined. The freshness of the wild vegetables mixed with the savory flavor of the mushrooms, and there was a faint sweetness in the aftertaste.
“Is it good?”
Lisa looked at Milly nervously, her fingers unconsciously rubbing her skirt. Theoretically, there should be no problem with the soup, but she was afraid there might be something wrong with the little one’s tongue.
“Mm.” Milly took another sip, the steam blurring her expression. Seeing this, Lisa breathed a sigh of relief, got up, took out a few pieces of flatbread and handed them to Milly, then turned to serve her own bowl.
Looking at Lisa’s back, Milly noticed the mud on her skirt. Besides the wild fruit, she had also gone to find some wild vegetables and mushrooms. When had Lisa left the tent? Milly hadn’t felt a thing. Was she sleeping too soundly?
The bowl was slowly emptied. The taste was good, especially with the dry flatbread.
When the morning breeze blew away the last bit of heat in the bowl, Milly put down the empty bowl. Lisa immediately leaned in, holding a handkerchief.
“You have a little something on your lip…”
Lisa’s sudden movement stunned Milly for a moment. She sat there, letting Lisa wipe the soup stain from her mouth. Lisa’s fingers, holding the handkerchief, froze slightly. She had thought Milly would dodge, or take the handkerchief herself. The imagined scene didn’t happen. Milly just sat there, not dodging, not refusing.
After a brief pause, Lisa continued to wipe the stain from Milly’s mouth. Her touch was light, as if she were handling a fragile treasure.
After wiping her mouth, a smile appeared on Lisa’s lips. But compared to the lively girl’s smile, this one was a bit strange, like the expression the person who had taken over her body would make.
“There. Want another bowl?”
Lisa picked up Milly’s empty bowl. Seeing Milly nod, the girl’s lips curled into a bright smile again. She filled the bowl and handed it to Milly.
“Careful, it’s hot.”
The morning breeze, still carrying a chill, blew past them. Milly took the bowl from Lisa. The warm soup dispelled the morning chill and washed away the last bit of sourness in her mouth.
Lisa sat beside her. As if remembering something, she put down her soup and looked at Milly.
“So…” Her green eyes sparkled with curiosity. “Why do you want to go to the other side of the forest, Milly? I heard that’s the demon territory.”
