Chapter 148 : Resurrection

The moment the tentacle pierced the massive beast, it stiffened instantly.

It was as if all its flesh and blood were sucked dry in a second.

Only a withered skeleton remained, collapsing weakly to the ground. In the dark hollows of its eye sockets, a flicker of disbelief seemed to linger from the moment of impact. Until the entire body turned to dust, the look in its eyes never changed.

It died without understanding how such a small creature could kill it so easily.

Behind it, the other monsters witnessed the carnage. But they didn’t stop. In their beastly eyes, Milly saw only madness—the madness of being controlled. They were here because they had seen Milly kill the Shadowblade Beast, and they were trying to overwhelm her with numbers.

With the cheat-like tentacle, Milly didn’t need to worry. But in her current state, she could only maintain it for another half-minute. If time ran out, the backlash would hit her, and the remaining monsters would tear her to pieces.

She had thirty seconds. One hit was a kill, but killing a tide of monsters in thirty seconds? At this speed, it was impossible.

But feeling the electricity surging in her body, Milly had an idea.

A few more kills, and her electricity would be full. Like a basin filled to the brim, any more water would overflow. Similarly, when the tentacle absorbed the monsters’ flesh and blood, it was converted into electricity and stored in her body.

Once she was full, would the overflowing electricity explode her, forcing her to release it all? Or would it be automatically converted into the energy needed to maintain the tentacle?

She would find out soon enough.

From the moment the tentacle appeared, it was a one-sided slaughter. Milly had played games where she was a disciple of a sect, but she had never had a one-hit-kill cheat.

Watching the tentacle on the battlefield, piercing monsters whose names she didn’t even know before they could scream, draining their flesh and blood and leaving only dry bones…

The absorbed flesh and blood were converted into energy, transmitted to Milly through the tentacle, and stored as electricity.

For some reason, she felt like she was receiving less energy. Was her body unable to hold it, or did each monster only yield that much?

After absorbing a few more, her electricity was nearly full. Milly could feel the surge, forcing her to release it.

A spark danced on her fingertip. At the same time, the tentacle pierced the next monster. In a blink, the massive beast was reduced to dry bones.

The absorption speed increased, but a faint unease rose in Milly’s heart.

Compared to the first monster, the tentacle was absorbing less energy from the later ones. It was as if something was competing with her for energy. Every time the tentacle pierced a monster, energy would leak away.

Milly scanned the battlefield. She noticed that the fallen corpses were melting, turning into black water and sinking into the ground.

Something was absorbing the corpses. But Milly had no time to investigate.

After absorbing that monster, her electricity reached its limit. The surging energy threatened to overwhelm her consciousness.

The overflowing electricity swirled around her, pressuring her body. If she didn’t release it, she would be torn apart.

She aimed at the horde. Before she could release the lightning, her body felt lighter. She noticed the overflowing electricity converging in one direction.

It flowed into her right palm, into the tentacle.

So, it was the latter. The overflowing electricity fed back into the tentacle. Each absorbed monster extended its duration.

She didn’t need to worry anymore. It was already a slaughter. Now she didn’t have to worry about the time limit.

She looked at the tide of monsters, a mocking smile on her lips.

She could clear this place.

With no worries, Milly let the tentacle rampage. The horde fell like wheat before a scythe.

But what was the cost for Milly?

As the slaughter continued, her body began to feel the strain. Since absorbing the Shadowblade Beast, her body had become a converter, turning flesh and blood into energy. The prolonged battle and the massive amount of energy were pushing her body to its limit.

“Just a little longer…”

As the tentacle decimated the horde, beads of sweat appeared on Milly’s forehead.

Meanwhile, at the edge of the battlefield, Lisa watched the white figure weaving through the monsters.

A few monsters, acting strangely, ignored Milly and targeted the seemingly defenseless Lisa.

Before they could get close, the leader stopped. Then, its massive body exploded into a rain of blood.

“Annoying.”

She glanced at the remaining monsters. Just feeling her gaze, they trembled in their souls, a primal fear of a superior being.

Before they could run, their bodies exploded, dyeing the ground crimson.

But soon, the crimson turned black, congealing into a thick liquid that sank into the ground.

Lisa noticed the anomaly. She looked at the ground, remembering something.

“It’s about time for it to come out.”

With the last monster reduced to dry bones, the core fell into a deathly silence.

In the center of the battlefield, a small white figure knelt on the ground, clutching her chest, gasping for air. Around her lay countless withered corpses.

“Finally… over…”

If it hadn’t ended, her overloaded body would have given out first.

As she caught her breath, she noticed the scattered corpses melting into black water, sinking into the ground.

“What’s happening?”

A dull rumble came from underground, like a sleeping beast awakening. The fog shrouding the core began to churn, parting as if pushed by invisible hands.

Deep in the thinning fog, a pale, human-shaped skeleton walked toward Milly with stiff steps.
