Chapter 131 : She Didn’t Know the Way

Morning light pierced through the gaps in the forest, dappling the girl’s dirty face. Stirred by the warmth, she frowned in her sleep and slowly opened her hazy eyes. Her vision was still blurry. She was lying on a bed of leaves, the damp smell of earth in the air. It had rained heavily a few days ago, and the air was a mix of grass and dew.

Milly rubbed her eyes and sat up. A sharp pain from her body jolted her awake. She remembered that she had passed out here last night after running into the forest.

She tried to spread her wings, but a tearing pain shot through them. Phew… her guess was right. Her self-healing hadn’t recovered. Was it because she had used up all her magic summoning the tendril?

She tried to channel her electricity. A faint spark flickered at her fingertips. It was weak, but it was a good sign. At least her body wasn’t just a passive conductor anymore.

She could now convert her magic into electricity, no longer needing to be passively recharged. The amount was small, but it was a start.

Her electricity was recovering, but her self-healing was still limited. She tried to move her left leg. It still hurt, but not as much as yesterday.

The remaining wounds were beyond her body’s self-healing capacity. Just like in the cell, her sealed self-healing couldn’t heal the wounds from the holy water.

She took off the tattered cloak. It was just the upper half now. The days of escape had turned it into a few rags, and the fireballs from last night had done the rest.

Her waterfall of white hair, her small wings, and her tail.

At least her dress wasn’t too damaged. She didn’t have to worry about being naked in the wild.

Without the cloak, her tail began to wag, like a happy child. It was a part of her, but she had no control over it. It was as if it had a mind of its own.

The tail had retracted. She had almost forgotten how. She searched her memory. At Tifna’s house, she had almost been discovered.

That had been a close call. But if she had been exposed then, without summoning Broken, Tifna’s reaction might not have been so extreme.

No, she was getting sidetracked. Following the method she had found in her memory, her wings and tail slowly retracted into her body. It still hurt a little. She wondered if the warmth of her body would help them heal.

She stood up and looked around. The memories of last night flooded back. She had been thrown by the blast wave of the fireballs and had landed outside the city wall.

The people who had attacked her must have thought they had blown her back into the city. After a few seconds of dizziness, she had forced her aching body into the forest. She hadn’t gone far before she passed out.

To pass out in a strange forest and wake up not in a cold cage was a surprise.

She was injured. The attackers should have followed her. Unless they were like programmed machines, unable to cross the city wall.

That was impossible.

Milly’s eyes darkened. A name flashed in her mind.

Stacy…

She bit her lip. A complex emotion welled up in her. She wanted to say something, but her throat was tight.

She shook her head, clearing her thoughts.

Time to go.

Just then, she noticed the numbers that had been in her vision. They were still counting down.

It didn’t seem to… no.

The numbers were wrong!

Why was it 70? The last time she had checked, it had been 85. That was the night Stacy had found her in the rain.

Now it was 70. That was 15 days. But she had only been on the run for six days. Where did the other nine days go? She couldn’t have been unconscious for nine days.

There was only one possibility. The countdown had accelerated.

Damn it.

Today it was 70. Tomorrow, it might be 50. How could it change so suddenly? Unless the event that would happen when it reached zero was being accelerated by some accident.

She was always receiving information passively, and always at a disadvantage.

The appraisal skill, she had reason to believe, was meant to bridge that information gap. But for now, it was useless. Besides the information on unimportant characters, the information on key characters, like Lillian, the old fool Pope, and key items, was all question marks.

A headache… The information she could get was limited. She didn’t know if it was because of the skill’s limitation, or her own lack of strength, or her lack of understanding of the world.

She had to improve her understanding of the world. Then the appraisal skill might level up and give her the information she needed.

She slapped her cheeks. For now, the only thing she could do was go to the demon territory and confirm some key information.

She had a feeling that the moment she got there, or even just saw it, she would know the answer. The truth of this world she had transmigrated into.

Some things were too strange, too hard to explain.

She brushed the dirt and leaves from her dress and activated her God’s perspective, heading for the forest’s exit. The forest wasn’t big, just a small wood.

She stepped out. The red sun was high in the sky. It was still early. Now she just had to find that forest and go to the demon territory.

But as she took her first step, she realized a serious problem.

She… she didn’t know the way.
