“Mmmph… Mmmph…”
Milly’s counterattack was too sudden. Lisa hadn’t expected her to shove the half-eaten sour fruit into her mouth. Caught off guard, she instinctively bit down.
Sour juice exploded in her mouth. Lisa immediately spat it out, juice and pulp spraying onto Milly.
“Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey! So sour!”
She had tried the fruit before, but it hadn’t been nearly as bad as the one Milly forced on her. Even after spitting it out, the lingering sourness drove her to grab the water bag and rinse her mouth frantically.
When the full bag was empty, Lisa finally let it go. The sourness had faded. She dropped the bag and looked at the remaining fruit.
Except for the one prank fruit, most of them were sweet—Milly’s favorite kind. But a few sour ones might have slipped in.
As she looked at the fruit, she noticed Milly doing the same.
“Wait, Milly, that’s not…”
Before Lisa could stop her, Milly had already picked up a fruit.
Milly must have thought they were all sour. The rest were normal, sweet ones. But judging by Milly’s expression, she hadn’t recovered from the prank.
As if to prove Lisa right, Milly rushed at her again, her speed surprising even herself. In that moment of hesitation, Milly grabbed her chin and shoved the small red fruit into her mouth.
The fruit burst. Remembering the sour taste, Lisa instinctively closed her eyes and frowned, bracing herself.
Sweet juice filled her mouth. Lisa’s brow relaxed.
“It’s sweet. You should have one too, Milly.”
Lisa’s expression seemed genuine. Or maybe she had just been lucky. Skeptical, Milly scanned the pile. Her appraisal skill was useless again.
When she needed it, it failed. What kind of skill was this? Or was it the old fool’s seal affecting her awakened ability, making it a half-baked mess?
Milly stared at the pile of red fruit. One, not fully red, caught her eye. Not fully red meant not ripe. That had to be sour.
She approached Lisa with the fruit. Knowing what Milly intended, Lisa didn’t dodge. She took the fruit from Milly’s hand.
“The big one was for the prank. The rest should be sweet.”
As if afraid Milly wouldn’t believe her, Lisa put the fruit in her mouth. The crisp crunch was loud in the morning silence. She swallowed the sweet juice and fruit, then blinked innocently.
“This one is sweet too.”
Lisa picked another fruit at random and ate it without hesitation.
“Very sweet.”
Lisa’s expression showed no sign of lying. Milly looked at the remaining fruit. Lisa had tried three times, and each time, Milly had given her the fruit. There was no way she could have cheated.
And it was just fruit. There was no need to tamper with it. One prank was enough. She didn’t need to be so paranoid just because it was her.
Milly picked a fully ripe red fruit and slowly put it in her mouth. The moment she bit into it, her face twisted.
“Sour…”
How could a small fruit be this sour? Her eyes watered. Was she crying from the sourness? The first prank fruit had only made her frown.
She spat it out. She had barely bitten into it. Why was it so sour?
Lisa stared at Milly for a moment, then burst out laughing.
The first one was a prank, yes. The rest were normal. Of course, a few sour ones might have slipped in. But after three normal ones, Milly had picked the only sour one left.
And judging by Milly’s reaction, it was even worse than the prank fruit.
“Hahaha… Milly, your luck is terrible…” Lisa laughed so hard she could barely breathe. “You just happened to pick the sour one…”
Milly stared at the laughing Lisa in silence. For some reason, she felt a surge of anger. Especially when she thought of who was behind Lisa.
She picked up the spat-out fruit. Looking at Lisa clutching her stomach, she lunged forward and shoved the fruit into her mouth.
Lisa hadn’t expected this. Her eyes widened in horror as Milly covered her mouth with one hand and used the other to force her to chew.
Just like when she had taught Milly to speak, using tentacles to control her mouth.
“It is sweet, sister Lisa. Such sweet things should be shared.”
Was this the Milly she knew? She looked like a little devil.
“Mmm… f-foul…”
Lisa could only mumble a few words. Once Milly was sure she had swallowed the whole fruit, she released her hand.
Lisa had been laughing at Milly’s bad luck. Now, an even stronger sourness exploded in her mouth, bringing tears to her eyes.
There were still so many fruits left. Although Lisa had said there might only be one sour one, where there was one, there were two. There had to be more.
Milly scooped up the remaining fruit and looked at Lisa, who was frantically rinsing her mouth. A wicked smile appeared on her lips.
Whether someone was playing along or if this was real, such opportunities were rare. If she missed this, when would she get another?
“Hey, sister Lisa, there are so many sweet fruits left. Let’s check them one by one.”
“Do you think the next one is sweet, or sour?”
