Chapter 168 : Who Puts a Door in the Sky?!

“Where is this?”

She had used the appraisal skill. She should be in the Corridor of Memory. Logically, after passing through the light screen, she should have arrived in a room like a main control room, where she could view the backend programs, directly access all the log information, and maybe even shut down the so-called purification program.

But what appeared before her was a corridor made of crystal. There was no end in sight. There were many crystals distributed along the corridor. The deeper she went, the denser the crystals became.

Milly stopped and touched the wall. The crystal-like wall reflected her image. And only her image. It couldn’t reflect the past or the future.

She couldn’t help but sigh. So much for the Corridor of Memory. Where were the memories? Since the wall was nothing special, the only things left were the protruding crystals.

She gently touched the nearest crystal. A strange scene unfolded before her like a scroll. It was a stranger’s memory, probably a record left by another player. The owner of the memory was a young woman, practicing magic. Beside her was a girl in holy robes. Her face looked familiar. She seemed to have seen her somewhere.

But she couldn’t remember where. Well… now that she knew this was a fake game world, it was normal for some character models to be similar. It didn’t necessarily mean she knew her.

As she released the crystal, the memory disappeared. It seemed she had to touch it.

Milly continued, occasionally touching the crystals on the wall. Among the many strange memories, she would sometimes see one or two she had seen before. But those memories were not hers. They were the ones that had appeared in her mind through the log while she was in the dungeon.

The more she saw, the more she noticed something strange. She was supposed to be seeing the memories of more than one player, but in all of them, she saw the girl in the holy robes. The more she saw her, the more familiar she became. She really seemed to have seen her somewhere, and more than once.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have such a deep memory of her.

But who was that girl? Milly couldn’t remember. Was it because of the Corridor of Memory? Her own memories were becoming a little fuzzy.

She went deeper. She found many players’ records, but none of her own. That was wrong. She was a player too. Her memories should have been recorded. Unless, because the log had been taken by Stacy, it had been lost, and so it wasn’t recorded.

The corridor was not endless. After a long time, she finally reached the end. Here, the crystals were sparse.

She tried to touch one. The moment she saw the memory, her face flushed red.

Damn it… karma was a b*tch. It was her own memory, and of all things, it showed her, naked, being pinned down by Stacy. Just as things were about to escalate, Milly quickly released her finger.

The blush on her face hadn’t faded. It was like scrolling through videos in bed at night and suddenly coming across a pornographic movie, and the female lead was herself.

Damn it. Couldn’t it have picked a more normal scene?

Milly slapped her face. When her burning cheeks had cooled, she walked to the end. A dead end.

She hadn’t found any forks in the road. The whole corridor was a one-way street. Besides the memories, she hadn’t found anything useful. Did they want her to find the memory fragment that could stop the program from a sea of information?

What a joke.

She looked back at the dense crystals on the wall. They didn’t expect her to watch them all, did they?

By the time she was done, the program would have finished loading. Damn it. Did she have the luck to pull a soul out of a hat? With her luck, what was that old fool afraid of? There was nothing here but memories. He couldn’t really be afraid that she would find it, could he?

But thinking about it, that was impossible. The old fool’s face was so pale. He must have been afraid. Afraid that she would find something in the corridor.

Just then, she noticed a crystal at the end that was different from the others. It was duller than the others, and much larger.

Milly went to it and tried to touch it. A sharp pain. Blood dripped from her finger onto the crystal. The crystal, which had been dull, turned a sinister red.

“What’s happening?”

She pulled her finger back. The wound had already healed. She looked at the blood-red crystal. Was the memory stored in it what the old fool was afraid of?

If he was afraid, then the memory stored in it was likely the way to leave this world. Even if she couldn’t leave, with it, the GMs wouldn’t be able to do anything to Stacy. Then, with Stacy’s virus identity, she might be able to break the program and force a logout, sending her out of this world.

Thinking of this, she reached out to touch it. She would know the answer when the memory appeared. But before she could touch it, a wave of energy emanated from it, repelling her.

[Sealed Memory]
[Protection System Activated]

Damn… it took her blood to activate the protection system, and now it was stopping her from seeing the sealed memory? Was it taking all the good things for itself?

If it were someone else, the protection system would have been easily broken. She suddenly missed that person a little… no, no, she wasn’t helpless without Stacy. She had her own way of breaking the protection system.

She aimed her palm at the red crystal. With a tearing pain, a black tentacle shot out from her palm and rushed toward the crystal. After a brief stalemate, with a crisp crack, the protection system was broken by the virus tentacle.

She reached out again and touched the red crystal. No memory fragment appeared. Instead, a door appeared.

“A door?”

She grabbed the doorknob. After a moment of hesitation, she pushed the door open and rushed in. The next moment, the ground disappeared from under her feet. There was nothing outside the door.

“Damn it, who puts a door in the sky?!”

She was falling. A strong sense of weightlessness. She was like a broken kite, falling into a bottomless abyss…
