Join the ServerThe morning’s farce did not last very long.
However, Stacy’s mental state might have been affected to a certain degree; as for just how much it had been affected, that was hard to say.
Staring at Stacy, who was sitting opposite her, Milly couldn’t see any issues on the surface right now, just like when she had first laid eyes on her.
Noticing Milly’s gaze on her, Stacy put down the bread in her hand.
“Is it not to your appetite?”
“No, I’m just a little curious.”
Milly picked up the glass of milk beside her to help wash down the bread.
“I thought you would need a bit more time to return to normal.”
“I have made a fool of myself, letting you see such an embarrassing side of me.”
Stacy clasped her hands together in front of her chest, as if performing a prayer.
“As the Goddess’s representative on earth, I indeed neglected my duties; failing to maintain my proper posture is a disservice to the Goddess’s image.”
Saying so, she lowered her hands.
Stacy picked up the remaining half-slice of bread again and put it into her mouth.
She shifted her gaze away from Milly and out the window, looking at something unknown.
Milly followed her gaze and saw two birds perched on the branch of a plane tree.
After a brief rest, the birds spread their wings and flew toward the horizon.
It was only after they completely disappeared from sight that Stacy finally retracted her gaze.
Milly couldn’t see the slightest ripple of emotion in Stacy’s eyes.
Perhaps she was just looking aimlessly, without any deep emotional color attached to it.
However, Milly still remembered the words Candice had said before leaving.
Having stood in this high position for so long, to maintain her dignified and holy image in the eyes of the world, she must have suppressed many of her emotions.
Perhaps she truly did need an outlet.
Although many unexpected things had happened this morning, if she really did need to vent, this was actually a pretty good opportunity.
While she was thinking about this, Stacy had already finished her breakfast.
She got up and left the round table by the window, walking straight toward the wardrobe next to the bed.
Opening the wardrobe, she found a neatly folded, pure white holy robe, along with other garments she needed to change into.
Seemingly forgetting that there was another person in the room, Stacy hooked the shoulder straps of her nightgown with her fingers.
Following her movements, the silk nightgown slid down her fair, smooth shoulders.
It fell silently to the floor, without making a single sound.
The entire process was far too fast.
Before Milly could even make a sound to remind her that there was still another person in here, Stacy had already stripped her nightgown off.
‘Did this idiot actually forget, or was she doing it on purpose?’
Milly didn’t know.
However, Stacy suddenly turned around and smiled sweetly in her direction.
“Ah, my apologies, I forgot Milly was in here too. You don’t mind, do you?”
This… was this really the same Stacy as this morning?
Although they had already seen each other bare in the bathhouse yesterday, she hadn’t expected this girl to turn around so completely without a single care.
If not for a few strands of hair that happened to drape over and conceal her magnificent peaks, she would have been completely exposed right now.
Yet there wasn’t a trace of bashfulness on Stacy’s face.
It was as if she had already grown accustomed to it and simply didn’t mind exposing herself before Milly.
Was her adaptability really this formidable?
How could such a massive transformation occur in just this short amount of time?
Milly didn’t know the exact answer.
However, the smile Stacy had shown when she turned around just now made Milly’s skin crawl.
There was a familiar taste hidden within that smile, as if she were seeing a certain old friend’s presence manifesting before her.
She could only hope this was just her imagination.
While Milly was lost in thought, Stacy had already changed into her pure white holy robes.
She walked to the window, and a few rays of sunlight spilled over her.
It looked as though she was bathed in a holy light.
Compared to her flustered appearance this morning, she had now fully recovered.
She looked exactly like the pure, holy Saintess Milly had met at the start.
In such a short time, her aura had undergone quite a dramatic shift.
Milly drained the last of her milk and set the empty cup down, getting up from her seat.
“Is it time to go to the sanctuary?”
“No, wait.”
Stacy looked Milly up and down, then turned her head to look at her own wardrobe.
“Going like this doesn’t fit the image of a hero at all.”
“Eh…”
Milly actually didn’t care about those things.
For her, it didn’t matter what she wore.
Even if she went over in this nightgown she was currently wearing, it wouldn’t be a problem.
After all, she was the hero; when the crowd looked at her, they would only assume her actions carried some profound, hidden meaning.
And if there were any hidden demons lurking in the crowd who had gone unnoticed yesterday, seeing her appear like this would only make them let down their guard.
They would assume she was just a sloppy, grassroots hero who posed no threat, and thus lower their vigilance.
Milly wanted exactly this effect, so she was perfectly fine with wearing whatever.
As for selecting her squad members later, she only needed to bring a few people capable of clearing out mob enemies; she didn’t need many.
She was just about to set off for the sanctuary like this, but before she could take more than a few steps, Stacy grabbed her collar and yanked her back.
“No, Milly. You have to change into something suitable.”
When the nuns had brought breakfast earlier, Stacy had already ordered them to prepare a set of light armor suitable for Milly.
She had thought about it, and wearing armor indeed fit the public’s imagination of a hero best.
However, when the nuns brought the light armor over, Milly had only picked up the breastplate to try it on before putting it right back.
“It doesn’t fit?”
“It’s inconvenient. Besides, light armor is better suited for a warrior, and I’m not one right now.”
If she could still summon Broken, she would have tried that silver-white light armor.
But for the current Milly, who could only discharge electricity, her role had shifted from a close-range warrior to a ranged mage.
Naturally, she had no need for this set of light armor.
“But…”
Stacy stood before her wardrobe. “I’ll lend you a piece of clothing.”
Opening the wardrobe, amidst the rows of pure white holy robes and other white dresses, Milly’s eyes caught a black dress.
She held it against her chest to measure it against her body.
The size was surprisingly fitting.
“This one will do.”
“This one?”
Stacy looked at the black dress in Milly’s hand.
As the Saintess, her wardrobe was entirely filled with white holy robes.
As for this black dress, it must have gotten mixed in at some point, and Stacy had already forgotten how long it had been lying there.
While Stacy was searching her memories, Milly had already changed into the black dress.
“It fits quite well, and it doesn’t restrict my movement at all.”
Milly did a few simple movements to test it out.
Since she didn’t need to consider close-range combat for now, she only needed to discharge electricity from the rear.
Furthermore, wearing this black dress was actually quite suitable for stealth at night, though her white hair would likely stand out even more because of it.
“Alright, let’s go.”
“Wait…” Stacy grabbed Milly’s hand once more, leading her to the vanity mirror. “At the very least, we need to tidy up your messy hair.”
It seemed she couldn’t refuse.
This world was supposed to be a serious, traditional fantasy setting, yet she was being forced to play a dress-up game.
The exact same scene from before played out once more.
Milly watched Stacy’s slender, delicate fingers run through her hair in the mirror.
With a wooden comb, the messy strands were quickly tamed.
Once the last strand of hair was combed through, Stacy produced a white ribbon and tied Milly’s hair up neatly.
Stepping back to admire the styled hair, Stacy nodded with satisfaction. “There, perfect.”
