Setting down the meal tray, Stacy noticed a red mark on Milly’s forehead. It hadn’t been there in the dressing room, so it must have happened while they were apart.
Had some demon assassin discovered the hero’s identity and found her?
But how was Milly’s location exposed? Had demons infiltrated the Church?
That was unacceptable. She had to—
Just as Stacy was about to rush out the door to find the hidden demon, Milly grabbed her hand.
“I just slipped and bumped it, that’s all.”
Seeing Stacy’s reaction, Milly guessed she thought she had been attacked. Milly had already used God’s Perspective and her appraisal skill to confirm things.
There were no demons in the entire Church. The only demon who had snuck in was the hero herself. It was ironic. Milly, a demon at her core, had been chosen as the hero to defeat demons she had never even met, on behalf of the humans who had hurt her in this save file.
However, having realized the true nature of this world, these questions were no longer important to Milly. Her only goal now was to go home.
She had to clear this world, find any possible information, or return to the Corridor of Memory to continue her search until she found the existence that terrified the old fool.
“Phew… as long as you’re okay.”
Stacy breathed a sigh of relief and touched Milly’s forehead. Under the effect of healing magic, the red mark quickly faded.
But… Stacy looked around. There was nothing in the room that one could easily trip over. And the red mark didn’t look like it was caused by a bump. She sensed a lingering trace of magic on Milly.
However, there were no signs of a struggle in the room, ruling out the possibility of an intruder. As for the real answer, although she had her suspicions, until Milly spoke, they were just that—suspicions.
As for why Milly wouldn’t tell her what really happened, she must have her reasons. All Stacy could do was trust her.
Moreover, even though they were standing close enough to touch, Stacy could vaguely feel that Milly’s heart wasn’t truly here.
Perhaps it was just an illusion. After all, the hero identity was new today. It was normal to feel unaccustomed to it, which might explain her distraction. Stacy planned to help the hero naturally integrate and gradually realize her mission.
But Milly really liked to act recklessly.
Today, she had publicly rejected her hero identity, rushed out to find demons just to ask for directions to the Demon King’s castle, and even planned to set off overnight to face the Demon King alone.
Fortunately, she had successfully persuaded Milly to drop that idea.
It was good that she recognized her mission to defeat the Demon King, but she was too reckless.
Setting off tomorrow to face the Demon King was still too fast.
Everything was completely different from how she had imagined meeting the hero.
Until she saw the final outcome, she couldn’t say if this was a good or bad thing.
However, since the hero was now by her side, no matter what she decided to do, Stacy would stand firmly with her.
She had gotten lost in thought. The dinner was getting cold.
“I tried making a little something. I don’t know if you’ll like it.”
As she lifted the cover, the aroma of food instantly filled the room.
Initially, upon hearing Stacy had made dinner, Milly instinctively resisted. The memory of the dark cuisine was too profound; she couldn’t forget it. But as the aroma drifted from the tray, Milly hesitated.
This… this wasn’t right.
Although the Stacy she knew later could make normal food, it was just that—normal. Barely passing grade.
But now, Milly felt an irresistible urge to taste it.
She remembered Stacy mentioning that she used to be good at cooking before she fell.
Looking at the fragrant cream stew, Milly sat down at the round wooden table, took a spoonful, and put it in her mouth. The rich milky flavor instantly spread, perfectly blending the freshness of the ingredients with the layers of spices. Milly didn’t speak; she just instinctively took another spoonful.
“How is it? Does it suit your taste?” Stacy sat opposite her, hands clasped on her lap, her violet eyes filled with anticipation, but mostly nervousness, afraid Milly wouldn’t like it.
“Yeah, it’s good.”
Milly said, her spoon not stopping.
Seeing this, Stacy let out a breath of relief. Her initially tense hands relaxed under the table. She rested her chin on her hand, watching Milly devour the dinner. If she liked it, that was wonderful.
As for Milly, a black line gradually appeared on her forehead.
It wasn’t because there was something wrong with the food. It was because the current Stacy was a great cook. How did she go from this to making dark cuisine after becoming the Fell God?
A personality change was understandable, but why did something as trivial as cooking skills get affected? Was it specifically to torment the transmigrated Milly?
What a “wonderful” surprise gift. The gift was great, but she didn’t want it, and she didn’t want it delivered ever again.
She forcefully stabbed her fork into a piece of bread nearby, the force startling Stacy. She couldn’t understand why Milly suddenly attacked a piece of bread.
Whether Milly had stabbed an ordinary piece of bread or something else in her mind, that was hard to say.
Late at night.
Milly lay on the outside of the bed, staring at the moonlight streaming through the window. Surprisingly, she couldn’t sleep.
It wasn’t because there was someone else in bed. After all, it was Stacy.
And the Saintess version of Stacy wouldn’t suddenly get touchy-feely like a certain someone.
What was strange was that, listening to the breathing behind her, Stacy hadn’t fallen asleep either. Their breathing was exceptionally clear in the quiet night.
“Can’t sleep?” Milly broke the silence.
“Mmhmm…” Stacy turned over, facing Milly’s back. “Can’t you sleep either, Milly?”
She had always slept alone. This was her first time sharing a bed. And thinking about what had happened in the bathhouse, and what Milly had said in the dressing room, her mind kept conjuring strange fantasies, making it impossible to sleep.
No, no…
Stacy shook her head. She had to change the subject. She suddenly remembered what had happened during the day. Although it might have been an illusion, there was no harm in mentioning it. Maybe it would clear the messy thoughts from her head.
“Yeah.”
“Milly, can we talk?”
She had something to say. No wonder she couldn’t sleep.
Milly had forgotten what she had said in the dressing room. In her mind, Stacy couldn’t sleep because she was holding something back.
“Go ahead.”
“Today…” Stacy paused suddenly, as if hesitating whether to say it. Milly turned slightly, wanting to hear what she had to say.
“Milly, I saw something. Today, when we were looking for demons, it looked like something appeared in your palm.”
