Pitch-black wings unfurled behind Stacy. Countless feather-like spikes detached from the wings, raining down like a torrential storm, instantly covering the black-robed figures on the ground.
The spikes caused their bodies to momentarily collapse, but they quickly regenerated, good as new. It was like a disrupted projection—the connection was briefly severed, rendering the projected image temporarily ineffective.
As long as the core projection equipment wasn’t damaged and continued to operate, the disrupted images would naturally restore themselves upon reconnection.
Finding and destroying the projection equipment was currently impossible for Stacy. Moreover, the black-robed figures on the ground were merely a diversion; the true threat was Oswell, holding the scepter.
“I didn’t expect you’d go this far, you filth.”
Oswell coldly dropped the remark. The scepter in his hand erupted with blinding holy light, transforming into a pillar of light that rushed towards Stacy with the speed of lightning. It collided violently with the storm of feathers in mid-air, both annihilating each other and dissipating.
‘Old fool, there are plenty of things you can’t expect.’
Stacy sneered. Several pitch-black spikes tore through the air, aimed straight for Oswell’s throat. The Pope merely raised his scepter; the erupting holy light swallowed the spikes entirely, turning them into wisps of black smoke that vanished within the radiance.
Looking at the current situation on the battlefield, neither could do anything to the other. But Stacy’s ultimate fate was hard to predict. Stacy’s controllers could afford to fight a battle of attrition; they had plenty of time and energy. Meanwhile, the black-robed figures on the ground were constantly interfering with Stacy.
Although they couldn’t directly erase Stacy’s existence like Oswell, if she was hit by interference from the ground, she would be hard crowd-controlled, locked in place, and become a living target.
Stacy had to dodge the interference from the ground while counterattacking Oswell. If she were in her own body, even if she couldn’t kill these people, she could at least drag the fight out indefinitely. But currently borrowing Lillian’s body, she couldn’t afford a war of attrition. She could only try her best to stall for time until Milly emerged from the light screen.
Although she had no idea what was hidden inside the light screen, nor could she confirm whether Oswell’s previous panic was genuine or just an act to confuse them.
Despite having nothing to confirm, she unhesitatingly chose to believe in Milly, believing the little one could find something inside the light screen capable of turning everything around.
“I really am…”
Since when had she started believing in such illusory hopes? Before, she only believed in her own power, only in everything she did herself. Since when did she start choosing to believe in others, pinning her hopes on them?
It seemed that after experiencing those things with Little Milly, she had unknowingly changed a bit herself.
Looking back at the entrance of the light screen, now completely covered by thorns, a smile involuntarily curled the corners of Stacy’s lips. But quickly, as she turned her head back, her crimson eyes carried a bone-chilling coldness.
Before Milly came out, she absolutely would not let anyone near there.
Looking at Oswell and the group of black-robed figures before her, a dangerous arc curled on Stacy’s lips. The wings behind her fully unfurled, and countless feather spikes fell like a sudden, violent rainstorm. At the same time, twisted tentacles burst from the ground, entangling the black-robed figures closest to them.
Although the tentacles were erased quickly, the endless stream of emerging tentacles still outpaced the rate of erasure. Combined with the feather spikes raining down from above, it temporarily suppressed the black-robed figures on the ground, leaving them breathless.
As for Oswell on the other side, he continuously waved the scepter in his hand. Wherever the holy light reached, Stacy’s creations all turned to ash and dissipated.
“Quite resilient. But how long do you think you can hold out?”
“Until you breathe your last.”
Stacy retorted without hesitation. But she also knew that at this intensity of output, she would probably be the first to give out. But if she fell, the regenerating thorns would also dissipate.
When that time came, what would Milly, inside the light screen, do?
So, no matter what, before Milly came out, she absolutely would not fall. Similarly…
“Little Milly, you absolutely must not disappoint me.”
“Waiting for you to return…”
Stacy whispered softly. A black spike materialized beside her, shooting towards Oswell like an arrow leaving the bowstring.
“We’ll tear this old fool to pieces.”
“Achoo!”
Strange. Was it because she had just come out of the bath and felt a bit cold?
She suddenly sneezed.
Or could it be that someone was actually talking behind her back?
Forget it, forget it. She rubbed her itchy nose. Now she had to quickly dry her body; it wouldn’t be good if she caught a cold later. Though, whether she could actually catch a cold in this world was hard to say. From what she had seen so far, even after being drenched in the rain for over half a day, Milly hadn’t developed a fever or caught a cold. It seemed this abnormal symptom wasn’t programmed in.
As expected, it still lacked some details compared to the real world.
She found a bath towel and dried all the water droplets on her body. The next annoying thing was her white hair that almost reached her ankles. Drying it every time was a pain, and unfortunately, Milly didn’t know the magic to quickly dry hair. At times like this, it would be great if Stacy was here.
She’d better go change her clothes first. As for this wet hair, there should be a solution.
When Milly arrived at the dressing room, she realized her clothes had already been taken by Stacy. However, Stacy now held a new set in her hands.
“That one got a bit dirty, so I had a nun bring a new set.”
The undergarments had also been prepared for Milly. Fortunately, the current Milly had completely adapted and wouldn’t instinctively blush when seeing the undergarments Stacy brought over. Should she consider this a good thing or a bad thing?
Just as she was about to drop the towel and change into the undergarments, Stacy sat down on a nearby chair and patted her thigh, seeming to gesture for Milly to sit.
“That long hair must be hard to manage.”
Saying so, she produced a comb as if performing a magic trick, seemingly wanting to help Milly manage her troublesome long hair.
This action made Milly a little flustered. Obviously, someone had combed her hair for her not long ago. This was a bit of a scene reenactment. Suddenly producing a comb and asking her to sit on her thigh—it was exactly the same.
Milly didn’t refuse. She walked over to Stacy and sat on her soft thigh.
“Milly’s hair quality is really good.”
A faint red light glowed in Stacy’s palm, and a warm aura overflowed from it, transferring to the hair strands. It was simply like she had turned into a human hair dryer. So this was how it was always dried?
Warm fingers ran through her hair, while the wooden comb in her other hand gently brushed through the dried long hair, feeling so comfortable that Milly squinted her eyes slightly.
It was exactly the same as the action back then. After all, although their personalities were vastly different, in essence, they were still the same person, just from different periods.
As Stacy combed her hair, Milly’s thoughts gradually drifted, as if returning to the morning when the other Stacy combed her hair. From a certain perspective, that person hadn’t changed much.
“Milly, now that you know the direction to the Demon King’s castle, what do you plan to do?”
Just then, Stacy suddenly spoke, pulling Milly’s thoughts back. She was slightly taken aback; she hadn’t expected Stacy to ask this at this moment.
“What do you think?”
