Chapter 92 : Good Night, Milly

It had only been a temporary reprieve. When the sun rose tomorrow, they would forget everything that had happened tonight.

She opened the dungeon door and stepped inside. After the disastrous crusade, the Church was severely weakened. The number of guards in the dungeon had been significantly reduced.

After all, more than half of the Church’s knights had been wiped out in that battle. With the current manpower shortage, three guards were more than enough to watch over a sealed demon girl.

She passed by the other empty cells. After the Fell God was defeated, the prisoners seemed to have been moved to a new location. As for who, Lillian, as the Saintess, had not been informed.

Her thoughts were not on the empty cells. She walked quickly to the deepest one.

There, a Platinum Knight stood guard.

Because the little one had escaped this morning, one of the few remaining Platinum Knights had been specially assigned to watch her. Were they that afraid she would escape again?

“Who’s there!”

The Platinum Knight drew his sword. Before he could see Lillian’s figure, his body was lifted into the air.

Something in the darkness seemed to have entered the gap in his helmet, tightly wrapping around his neck.

“Intruder…”

He desperately tried to raise the alarm, but the next moment, the invisible thing tightened. After a brief struggle, the Platinum Knight went limp.

She gently placed the unconscious knight on the ground. She couldn’t make any noise and wake the little one in the cage.

In the past, it wouldn’t have been so simple.

Well, the nuisance was taken care of. Now, it was just her and the little Milly in the cage.

“The little one blew up the cell door this morning to escape.”

By night, the door had been repaired and reinforced. Where did she learn that from?

She found the key on the knight, and with a click, opened the door. The little one was curled up in a corner.

Her fingers touched Milly’s face. The cute little face was still contorted in pain.

The remaining holy water was still corroding her body. There were tear stains on her tightly closed eyes. She had clearly fainted from the pain.

Her touch was a little cold. Lillian’s expression changed. The magic in her fingertips turned into a warm current and entered Milly’s body. The remaining holy water evaporated.

“You’re not cold now, are you?”

Milly’s face relaxed a little. The holy water was gone, but the damage it had caused was not.

A healing light glowed in the darkness. A soft, pale green light slowly covered Milly’s body. As the light enveloped her, the wounds from the corrosion healed quickly.

The little one’s self-healing ability had weakened. The damage from the holy water today had likely exceeded her current healing capacity.

She withdrew her fingers. Milly’s face slowly returned to normal, her breathing steady.

She took out a pre-prepared water bag, sat down, and gently lifted Milly onto her lap. She supported her head with one hand and brought the water bag to her dry lips with the other.

As a drop of sweet water moistened her lips, Milly unconsciously opened her mouth and slowly drank.

Lillian deliberately slowed the flow of water. After all, she hadn’t drunk for several days. If she drank too fast, she would choke.

When the water bag was empty, she took it away.

She let Milly lie quietly on her lap, feeling her steady breathing.

It was the first time she had quietly looked at the little one’s sleeping face. She reached out, wanting to touch her cute little face.

Her outstretched fingers froze in mid-air.

In a little while, her body would be returned to the real Lillian.

Her fingers gently touched Milly’s neck. Compared to the daytime, she could faintly feel the presence of the sigil. It was very weak now, unable to manifest.

When she recovered a little more, it would probably appear.

She released her fingers and touched her own neck. Even though it wasn’t the same body, she could still feel its faint presence.

Her initial guess was correct. It wasn’t just bound to the body; it was bound to their souls, like a small joke of fate.

But that was for the best.

She released her fingers. Lillian’s gaze fell on the back of Milly’s hand. The hidden book-shaped symbol had reappeared. The little one had been keeping it safe for her.

She had prepared eight other copies in the fortress. The old fool’s backers were still a problem. Fakes wouldn’t deceive them.

She looked away. The sigil on the back of her hand slowly faded. As the key, she had to let the little one keep it for a while longer.

It was almost time. After accounting for the time it would take to return to her room, she gently ruffled Milly’s hair. Then she lifted her and placed her in the center of a prepared blanket, wrapping her up like a rice dumpling.

She wouldn’t be cold now. And it was much more comfortable than lying on the floor.

When the sun rose and the Platinum Knight woke up, the blanket would automatically disappear and return to Lillian’s room, leaving no trace of her visit.

Lillian whispered in Milly’s ear. She knew the sleeping Milly couldn’t hear her, but some things had to be said.

“Just a little longer. It will all be over soon.”

When it was all over, Little Milly would probably rely on her.

Before leaving the dungeon, Lillian cast a sleeping spell on the unconscious Platinum Knight. He wouldn’t wake up in the middle of the night, and Milly could sleep a little longer in the soft blanket.

“It’s about time. She should go back.”

“Good night, Milly.”

“Why do I feel so tired?”

As the first light of dawn filtered through the stained-glass window, Lillian shot up in bed.

She had gone to bed early last night and had even lit some incense to improve her sleep quality.

But when she woke up, her body felt strangely heavy and tired, as if she had been sleepwalking all night.

She had no memory of what had happened last night.

She only remembered sitting at her vanity for a while, then going to bed.

Just a little tired.

She went to the vanity and looked at her reflection. Her face was normal. But in her violet eyes, there were a few bloodshot lines, as if to tell her she hadn’t slept well.

“How could this be?”

She hadn’t woken up in the middle of the night, nor had she had a nightmare. It wasn’t a sleep problem. What was it?

Lillian looked back. The blanket on her nightstand was gone.

She remembered pulling it out last night, as if for Milly.

Had she really sleepwalked to the dungeon and given it to her?

No… she must be going crazy to even think of that. It must have been a hallucination. She probably hadn’t even taken out the blanket.

Just then, the church bells rang, interrupting her thoughts.

It was time. She should wash up and prepare for the morning prayer.

She hoped everything would go smoothly today. And that she wouldn’t get distracted again.
