What? The cloud? Damn!
This is bad, this is really bad. How did I suddenly forget about cloud storage?
Hiss! I’m completely screwed now.
I let out a helpless sigh. Once again, she had gotten the better of me. Of course, in the end, it was my own fault. Before Huang Beifeng could come up with any other ideas, I’d better change the subject.
“Hey, Beifeng, let’s go eat first.”
“Alright, alright. Just you wait until tomorrow—I’ll make you pay.”
She shot me a mischievous grin, then grabbed her phone and stuffed it into the pocket of her hoodie, effectively thwarting any chance I had of snatching it to delete the photos.
Hiss. She really wasn’t giving me any way out, was she?
Right up until we finished eating, Huang Beifeng didn’t give me even a sliver of an opportunity. From the looks of it, I had no hope of getting my hands on her phone. Those photos, like a record of my darkest history, would have to stay on her device forever.
Ugh.
After my shower, I returned to my room. In the past, I’d probably be playing games or something by now, but given what had just happened, I didn’t feel like gaming at all.
A perfect opportunity like that, and I just went stupid? Then… well, it’s a long story.
I grabbed the pillow beside me, flopped onto my back on the bed, and smothered my face with it.
Ugh, this is so embarrassing. I’ve lost all face. No, correction—I’ve already lost it. Luo Ye, Luo Ye, can’t you be more careful? The cloud! There’s the cloud!
After a few feeble self-criticisms, I continued burying my face in the pillow.
Eventually, drowsiness overtook me. I yanked the pillow off my head, hugged it to my chest, and fell into a deep sleep.
Meanwhile, Huang Beifeng was still scrolling through the photos on her phone. She felt every single one was great, but she still wanted to pick the best one—to decide what Luo Ye should wear tomorrow.
She finally picked the most suitable one. Rubbing her tired eyes, she put down her phone and flicked off the light switch. With a click, the room was plunged into darkness once more.
The night grew deeper. As the lights in countless homes went out, a faint glow still emanated from Xin Xue’s room.
In her room, Xin Xue wore a thin nightgown that perfectly outlined her youthful curves. Even from behind, it was easy to imagine that she must be a breathtaking beauty.
Xin Xue gently picked up the cup beside her. Inside was a freshly made instant coffee.
Taking a small sip, she set the cup down and turned her attention back to the computer screen.
The clues were even scarcer than she had expected, but now that she had confirmed their basic possible motives, the scope of her search had narrowed considerably.
The only thing she couldn’t determine was how far along they were. If they had just started, her actions might alert them and scare them off.
If they were almost done… then it would all depend on whether that person in the operations division could get the job done. And if even that person couldn’t stop them, perhaps the chief would have to step in.
She massaged her forehead. Today’s investigative work had been quite taxing for her; she had overworked her brain.
Seeing that there was nothing useful to be found for now, Xin Xue saved her document and shut down the computer. Since she couldn’t dig up anything valuable anyway, she might as well get some rest early to keep her energy up.
After the last light went out, everything merged into the darkness. Only when the first rays of dawn broke through, painting the east in pale light, did a new day begin anew.
But when I got up today, I found that Huang Beifeng had risen even earlier than me. She had already finished washing up by the time I opened my door.
Was she really this eager?
I yawned slightly. As I stepped out of my room, Huang Beifeng walked into it. From the look of it, she was going to grab the clothes she had prepared for me to wear today.
Since I had already tried them on, I didn’t have any resistance left. Besides, wearing them out wouldn’t make me lose a piece of flesh. Nothing to be afraid of.
With that thought in mind, after washing up, I headed straight back to my room.
I had wondered what kind of clothes Huang Beifeng would pick. I thought she might choose something cute or something that would make me die of embarrassment.
To my surprise, she had picked the most ordinary light blue dress. It wasn’t too short—just above the knee—but since I’m a guy, if I accidentally flashed someone, it would be a disaster. So I wore a pair of safety shorts underneath.
Dressed and ready, since we had made plans to have breakfast with Tang Xiaorou and the others, we didn’t cook at home.
I thought about letting Xin Xue know that we wouldn’t have breakfast at home this morning, but when I went to her room, she wasn’t there.
She might have left early in the morning, so I couldn’t find her. How unusual.
I couldn’t worry about her for now. I had to drag Huang Beifeng to the bus stop. But as Luo Ye pulled Huang Beifeng out the door, he completely failed to notice that Xin Xue, whom he thought had left, was actually watching them from a noodle shop next to their house.
And beside her sat a black-haired girl and a blue-haired girl.
Looking at the black-haired girl, Xin Xue stood up and gave a slight bow. “My little sister’s safety… I leave it to you.”
