Chapter 88: A Hungry Encounter and Vampire Revelations

“Student, why are you leaving when I’m trying to buy your things?”

The grey-haired girl spoke, her face still devoid of expression. Yet, a chilling aura had already begun to emanate from her.

“Ah, well…”

Gern chuckled awkwardly, his gaze darting about. He searched for a way to escape this situation. This person, after all, had managed to evade Snow’s grasp, making her someone he couldn’t afford to underestimate.

With so many eyes watching, he couldn’t openly use his Netherworld Steps. His only option was to find a less crowded area.

“My stomach isn’t feeling too good. I need to use the restroom first.”

“Wait!”

The grey-haired girl once again blocked Gern’s path. Her crimson eyes fixed intently on his face.

She instinctively licked her lips, then parted them to reveal two sharp, small fangs.

“Sell me the meat. I’m so hungry.”

As she spoke, the grey-haired girl tossed a gold coin towards Gern. His eyes immediately widened.

His hands instinctively reached out, catching the gold coin she had thrown.

This was a gold coin! All his wares combined might not even fetch a single gold coin.

Suddenly, Gern felt the girl’s gaze grow considerably kinder.

“Miss, oh no, Boss, please take all this meat. It’s been kept fresh in my storage space.”

High-grade storage items possessed the ability to preserve food. The pendant Lilia had given him, for instance, had this very function.

However, the storage rings he often used in his previous life, or the one he’d seen in the cave earlier, were common storage items without any special features. They offered no additional functions.

Seeing this, the grey-haired girl nodded, accepting the beast meat. Her face remained expressionless as she stared intently at Gern.

Her unwavering gaze sent a shiver down his spine, a premonition of something ill about to occur.

“Um… Boss, is there anything else you need?”

“I want you.”

“Huh?”

Gern’s expression froze for a moment. He quickly shielded his chest, then, feeling something was still amiss, hastily covered his vital areas.

“Miss, I advise you not to entertain any improper thoughts about me.”

Ignoring Gern’s warning, the grey-haired girl drew even closer.

“Student, don’t be scared. I’m just a little hungry.”

“You already have meat. Why are you looking at me?”

“Student, delicious!”

With those words, the grey-haired girl lunged at Gern.

Gern abandoned the beast materials still on the ground. He sidestepped the attacking girl and turned to flee towards the edge of the market.

Once outside, he could use his Flash Step. Then, no matter how skilled she was, as long as her strength didn’t exceed the sixth tier, she wouldn’t catch him.

However, her speed far surpassed Gern’s expectations. He only registered a flash of crimson before his eyes—the graceful figure of a person with a pair of blood-red wings sprouting from their back.

By the time he could make sense of it, it was already too late.

Gern crashed directly into the shadowy figure ahead. A soft embrace enveloped him completely, followed by a faint, sweet fragrance.

“Student, I’m going to feast.”

The grey-haired girl held Gern in a death grip. Her two slender arms, like chains, bound him tightly.

Then, she opened her cherry-like mouth and bit down on Gern’s neck.

Just as Gern braced himself to fall into a state of weakness, as he had that morning, a burst of brilliant light suddenly exploded beside him.

Even a sidelong glance caused Gern’s eyes to swim with dizziness.

“What happened?”

He was still bewildered, unsure of the current situation.

Before long, he felt the strength binding him loosen considerably. He struggled free from Aivia’s embrace and turned, sprinting towards the densest part of the crowd.

Students nearby, noticing the commotion, were already gathering. This presented Gern with a perfect opportunity to escape.

Aivia remained dazed by the Holy Light’s radiance. A moment later, she finally snapped back to reality, shaking her head.

She scanned her surroundings, hoping to spot Gern, but found no trace of him.

Having wasted her efforts, Aivia squatted on the ground, a little dejected, drawing circles with one hand.

‘Stinky witch, bad witch! No wonder you let me out; you placed a restriction on me!’

‘Damn it, damn it, I’m so hungry!’

Cursing Snow under her breath, she took out the beast meat Gern had given her and took a large bite.

‘Mmm… this tastes better than nothing at all.’

After escaping the crowd, Gern immediately vanished into the shadows. Night was his domain.

As long as he didn’t encounter an enemy of excessively high strength, virtually no one could track him. Such was the peculiar nature of the Heretic God Cult’s cultivation technique.

Nevertheless, to be safe, Gern circled the area a few times. Only after confirming that no one was following him did he return to his dormitory.

Back in his familiar surroundings, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. That girl had been truly terrifying. Vampires, after all, fed on blood.

Her persistent pursuit of him made her objective clear: she wanted his blood. Gern had also heard that vampires enjoyed ‘rearing’ humans, treating them as blood slaves.

The thought of a vampire still coveting him sent shivers down Gern’s spine.

He had heard that blood slaves were entirely at the mercy of vampires, with every aspect of their lives controlled by them.

They couldn’t even determine their own race or gender, completely at the whim of their vampire masters.

For instance, a regular male who became a blood s*ave would undergo a transformation.

However, the control over this transformation lay not with him, but with the vampire. If the vampire disliked humans, they would simply transform the blood s*ave into one of their own.

As for the blood s*ave’s gender after transformation, that depended entirely on the vampire’s mood; it could be male or female.

Fortunately, this was an academy, and vampires were also students here. The academy surely wouldn’t allow such things to happen.

What Gern didn’t know, however, was that the information he possessed was from a very, very long time ago.

In current vampire society, forcing blood slaves to do things against their will was considered an act akin to a heretical cult.

Contemporary vampires no longer treated blood slaves as mere servants. Instead, they regarded them as friends, or even cherished companions.

Becoming a blood s*ave to a noble vampire would not only spare one from oppression, but the vampire would also provide them with abundant food and drink.

Ever since vampires drew a clear line between themselves and demons, they had ceased such coercive practices with blood slaves.

This was done to gain the support of the major human kingdoms. Nowadays, all vampire actions were governed by established norms, their own laws.

Vampire law explicitly outlined matters concerning blood slaves. Moreover, finding a blood flavor one genuinely liked was no simple feat these days.

Over time, the abuse of blood slaves ceased entirely. In fact, becoming a blood s*ave to a vampire was now akin to becoming their closest friend, or even their lover.
