Chapter 62: Gern’s Strengthening and the Hidden Forces

Seeing that Gern had entered a focused state, Snow nodded with relief. Her intention in strengthening Gern’s physique wasn’t solely a reward for his discovery of the Heretic God Cult’s schemes; there was another purpose. The power of the Kindling placed a significant strain on the body. Previously, when Gern had merged with the snake tribe’s Kindling, Snow had already noticed that Gern’s body was nearing its limit. If she hadn’t enhanced his physique, Gern’s current bodily condition might struggle to control the two Kindlings. According to their subsequent plans, Gern would need to merge with even more Kindlings in the future, so his physical strength had to be formidable to bear such a number of Kindlings. Therefore, to ensure their future plans proceeded smoothly, Snow had prepared this medicinal bath for Gern. After Gern fully entered a state of deep focus, Snow slowly approached him from behind and poured a bottle of holy liquid into the water. The light brown water instantly radiated a holy glow, which was the power of the Holy Light. Although these substances couldn’t awaken Gern’s Holy Light abilities, they could help him resist simple corruptions from the Heretic God Cult in his next encounter. Subsequently, she slowly infused her own power into Gern’s body, aiding him in circulating the energy within. This process lasted a very long time, extending into the afternoon. When the water in the bathtub turned completely black, Gern abruptly opened his eyes. An overwhelming power surged through his entire body, and he felt confident that he could now take on the giant snake he had faced during the assessment. Additionally, he sensed a strange force in his dantian. Upon closer inspection, he discovered that this force wasn’t associated with magic, Holy Light, or martial arts, yet it shared a similarity with the Holy Light, possessing a pure and sacred quality. Gern was about to ask Miss Snow about this force when he turned around and saw that she was already asleep standing up. Gern’s mouth twitched; this was the first time he had seen someone fall asleep while standing. Perhaps she was just too tired. Gern didn’t disturb her; instead, he quietly exited the bathtub and changed into clean clothes.

“Hmm?” Suddenly, Snow woke up and saw that Gern had already changed.

“Oh, you’re done. How do you feel?”

“I feel great, it’s just that…”

Gern hesitated, unsure of whether to share his situation. Seeing the expression on his face, Snow immediately understood Gern’s thoughts.

“You want to ask about the force within you, right?”

“Ah? You… know?”

“Of course, I helped you circulate your energy during your deep focus. How could I not know?”

Gern scratched his head, embarrassed.

“Thank you…”

“Nah, no need to thank me. I’m not sure about the exact origin of that force within you, but based on your previous descriptions, I believe it’s likely God’s Favor.”

“God’s Favor?”

“Yes, every person watched over by a deity will retain some residual divine power within them. When this power accumulates, it becomes God’s Favor. However, I’ve never seen God’s Favor quite like this before. I suspect this force is a gift from Kaled. Since he hasn’t perished, with his abilities, he’s likely become a new deity in this world.”

“Preserve it well; it might come in handy someday.”

Snow patted Gern’s shoulder, speaking with deep conviction. Gern nodded, and with things on this end concluded, he prepared to leave. Suddenly, he remembered the person from this morning, the one with the same name as a Heretic God Cult member. It reminded Gern that during the disruption of the Heretic God Cult’s scheme, he had also used a hypnotic drug to capture a Heretic God Cult sleeper agent. This person was likely captured by the academy and imprisoned, though Gern wasn’t sure where.

“Miss Snow, I have another request for you.”

“Hmm? What is it?”

“Remember that list of Heretic God Cult members? The one I obtained by hypnotizing a cult member?”

“That person had weak psychic defenses and signed a master-servant contract with me. I plan to use him to infiltrate the cult’s inner circle.”

After sharing his thoughts, Gern was surprised to find that Snow was quite enthusiastic about the idea.

“Good, I agree to this. I’ll take you to find him. Besides, I want to test the effectiveness of the hypnotic drug you mentioned.”

The location of the Theoviga Academy’s prison was in a relatively secluded part of the academy, backed by a mountain and surrounded by a castle belonging to the Witch Society. The area was densely forested with walls, making it heavily fortified. Along the way, many people greeted Snow, their curious glances frequently shifting to Gern, wondering about his relationship with the Witch. This was understandable, as Gern’s appearance bore a resemblance to Snow, and both possessed violet eyes, making it difficult for others not to speculate. However, due to Snow’s authority, no one directly questioned them; they merely exchanged brief greetings before departing. Upon reaching the prison area, there were fewer people, and the surroundings were filled with patrolling guards, some carrying weapons that Gern had seen in his previous vision. These weapons were slung across their backs, giving them an imposing presence.

“These are later replicas of the God King’s weapons, enhanced over many years. They can now fire magical bullets and are quite powerful.”

Listening to Snow’s explanation, Gern scratched his head. He didn’t fully understand, but he was deeply impressed.

“Don’t stare like that. If you go on missions, I’ll equip you with a handgun, but its power isn’t extraordinary.”

“It’s effective against lower-tier knights. Magic users and higher-tier knights have ranged attack capabilities, so they don’t necessarily need these. They’re more suitable as collectibles.”

Hearing this, Gern had a question. Based on what he had seen in the projection stone, ordinary people could also wield these weapons effectively. Why weren’t they widely distributed, like in the God King’s era?

“Why aren’t these weapons mass-produced?”

“Well, the God King did mass-produce these weapons and developed technology, allowing ordinary people to hunt high-ranking cultivators. Based on our estimates at the time, the God King-led Olga Kingdom would have unified the entire continent within a few years. However, just as the God King was about to launch a war against neighboring countries, chaos swept through the entire Olga Kingdom. We still don’t know the exact cause, but it might have been these new weapons and other advanced technologies that drew the attention of that entity. That’s why we’re cautious about mass-producing these new weapons now.”

“Is that so…”

Gern nodded, feeling a mix of understanding and confusion.

“Currently, only the Holy Olga Kingdom, which carries on the God King’s legacy, and our academy still possess the methods for creating and maintaining these weapons. These weapons are incredibly powerful. According to the God King, they haven’t reached the peak potential of new weapons. There are many more weapons capable of destroying entire nations, but the God King didn’t create them and didn’t leave behind any designs. Even so, these weapons are formidable, allowing ordinary people to instantly slay cultivators from the third to the sixth stage. We must preserve them. If chaos becomes unmanageable in the future, these will be our greatest weapons.”

Gern: “I don’t fully understand, but I’m in awe.”

As they conversed, the two arrived beneath a tall city wall. Although not as impressive as the Witch Society’s castle, this wall was still incredibly sturdy. Gern could faintly see the dark muzzles of guns. The wall was also covered with small shooting ports, making it daunting. Gern estimated that the number of guards protecting this city alone was in the thousands. This didn’t include other areas of the academy that also used these weapons. Snow had mentioned that this was still considered a small-scale deployment. If this were in a remote place like the Klett Kingdom, it could easily conquer the entire kingdom. The power of Theoviga Academy was truly terrifying.
