Chapter 56: The Fall of a Kingdom and the God of Frost’s Revelation

The scene before Gern’s eyes gradually bled crimson as he once again possessed the body of an ordinary soldier.

Not far from the soldier, a dark green metal box lay spewing black smoke, severely damaged and utterly unusable.

“Cough… cough…”

A hacking cough echoed beside the metal box. Gern quickly rose and moved closer to investigate, only to find a warrior whose legs were completely consumed by the power of Chaos.

“Brother, do you have any bullets left? I don’t want to become one of *those* monsters.”

His face was streaked with blood, and gore seeped from various wounds across his body. Yet, no fear shadowed his features; instead, a profound sense of regret and pity was etched upon them.

Gern’s hands trembled as he raised the black metal construct he held, slowly aiming its dark, gaping muzzle at the man.

“Go well, brother…”

The voice was not Gern’s; it belonged to the original owner of this body.

With a sharp crack, a bullet pierced the man’s head. His skull instantly exploded, splattering blood and a white, pulpy substance across the ground.

The body’s owner then slumped to the ground, breaking into desperate, solitary sobs.

Just then, the body of the deceased soldier slowly began to writhe.

By the time he reacted, the corpse, now entirely consumed by black miasma, was lunging towards him.

Gern was all too familiar with this sight: a creature infected by the power of Chaos. This differed significantly from Heretic God corruption, which primarily targeted the spiritual plane.

Furthermore, the Heretic God Cult possessed a unique cultivation method capable of mitigating the effects of such corruption. Without it, even if their adherents didn’t transform into Chaos creatures, they would still sprout strange and grotesque growths.

However, direct infection by the power of Chaos transformed victims into these monsters, regardless of whether they were alive or dead at the time of contamination.

Currently, only the Holy Light power of the Holy Light Church and the Heretic God Cult’s methods of controlling Chaos power could stand against them.

Beyond these two, the only other way to truly eradicate these Chaos creatures was through sheer overwhelming force.

When one’s power surpassed the upper limits of the Chaos energy’s transformation, these creatures could be directly slain.

Yet, this method was incredibly taxing on both magic and battle qi, and a single lapse in concentration could swiftly turn victory into defeat.

Aside from priests, most people found their only recourse against Chaos creatures was flight.

The soldier Gern had possessed clearly hadn’t grasped the true horror of Chaos power, leading to this grim end.

As Gern silently lamented, the scene before his eyes shifted once more.

This time, he beheld a city. Its walls rose majestically, crafted from materials Gern had never encountered, appearing incredibly formidable.

Upon these towering ramparts stood a group of people, their expressions grim and resolute, as if facing an insurmountable foe.

Outside the city, countless dark, shadowy Chaos creatures surged relentlessly towards the walls.

“Soldiers! Follow me to slay the enemy!”

The general on the wall was clad in special black armor, his black weapon continuously spitting forth fiery serpents.

However, Chaos creatures were not beings ordinary humans could contend with. After bullets inflicted some damage, the energy was merely converted into Chaos power.

Only the projectiles fired from shoulder-mounted launchers could inflict widespread devastation upon these monsters.

High above, countless airships rained down black stones, which detonated in fierce explosions, causing immense harm to the Chaos creatures below.

Just as it seemed humanity was on the verge of victory, a sudden thunderous roar ripped through the sky.

A muffled clap of thunder cleaved the heavens, followed swiftly by a message from the rear.

“Report! General Bape, the Queen… she suddenly collapsed! It seems something has happened on Lord Kaled’s side.”

The soldier, having rushed breathlessly, whispered the news once he reached the general’s side.

Upon hearing this news, the general’s body swayed. Even when confronted by such terrifying enemies, he had never shown such a reaction.

Learning of the trouble on Kaled’s end, the man, who appeared to be in his middle years, suddenly pitched forward and collapsed.

“General Bape! General Bape!”

“Take them… slay the enemy…”

With a weak utterance, the general succumbed to unconsciousness.

It was the same plaza, the same place, yet heavy snow now fell from the sky, painting everything as far as the eye could see in a pristine white.

Countless people wore white sashes on their heads and donned white robes. Some wept, others cried out in anger. As the white flakes descended from the sky, Gern finally discerned that they were, in fact, piles of paper money.

Thus, the only lord audacious enough to declare war on the gods fell in battle against them.

Not even his corpse remained. Chaos swept across the entire kingdom, and all the strange, varied weapons were utterly annihilated in that catastrophe.

Yet, for reasons unknown, the black miasma that had engulfed the kingdom soon receded, and the land returned to peace and tranquility.

The survivors rebuilt their homes and forged a new nation. Above this sky, two ethereal figures hovered.

One of them glanced back, revealing a face obscured by a jester’s mask. Gern couldn’t discern the person’s exact features, but he could feel an immensely powerful aura emanating from them.

Beside the jester-masked figure stood another, whose silhouette mirrored that of the one who had dared to declare war on the God of Chaos.

The entire vision should have concluded there, but just as Gern’s consciousness began to withdraw from the space, a sudden anomaly occurred.

****

Darkness. Endless darkness.

Gern had no idea how much time had passed. When his consciousness returned, he was enveloped in absolute blackness.

Suddenly, a glimmer of light flickered before him. He instinctively walked forward, the light growing steadily brighter until, in a matter of moments, Gern stood directly before its source.

“Raise your hand and touch it…”

At that moment, the familiar female voice spoke again. Gern, guided by the sound, raised his hand and touched the light.

The next instant, the surrounding space twisted, and Gern found himself before a grand hall, surrounded by soldiers armed with long spears. Behind them, countless metal boxes of various kinds were arrayed.

At the far end of the hall, a throne awaited. Gern stepped onto the crimson carpet, advancing slowly towards it.

His body involuntarily transformed into that of the Silver Dragon Girl, and from her dantian, the Dragon God slowly emerged.

She turned back to Gern, a radiant smile gracing her lips.

“Little sister, I apologize for the long wait.”

“You!?”

The girl before him bore a striking resemblance to himself, perhaps five or six parts, especially her draconic features, which seemed cast from the same mold.

Golden vertical pupils, long silver-white hair, and an inherently aloof aura defined her.

“Oh, I haven’t introduced myself yet.”

“I am Spencer, the God of Frost. You may also call me by my mortal name, Alicia.”
