Chapter 111: The Silver Dragon’s Flight and the Desert Battle

No sooner had the words left her lips than a colossal silver dragon, its body pure white and its back adorned with a pair of majestic wings, materialized before Xiao Ying.

Xiao Ying was struck dumb by the sight, her gaze fixed on the gargantuan creature before her. A ripple of primal fear surged from the depths of her heart.

Just then, a massive silver dragon tail extended towards Xiao Ying, but she remained transfixed, still reeling from the shock.

“Hurry up! If we don’t go now, we’ll miss it.”

“Ah? Oh, right.”

Hearing the familiar voice emanate from the colossal dragon, she finally snapped out of her daze, realizing this enormous being was her ‘big sister’ in her true form.

The flicker of fear in her eyes vanished without a trace, replaced instead by a burgeoning sense of joy and curiosity.

“Big sister, are you… a dragon?”

“Uh… I suppose so.”

Gern felt a pang of guilt. ‘She was, after all, only a… half-baked dragon.’

High above, Gern’s massive form soared over the desert dunes. At last, she spotted the distant silhouette of an army.

However, this army appeared to be in some trouble. From her vantage point in the sky, Gern observed the entire battlefield with crystalline clarity.

Ahead of this army, another force, numbering nearly ten thousand, stood arrayed, confronting them.

Gern did not act rashly; she merely observed the unfolding events from afar in the sky.

“Hmm? Sister, why have we stopped?”

Xiao Ying, brimming with curiosity, climbed onto the dragon’s head. Her hands gripped the pristine, jade-like dragon horns as she peered downwards.

Feeling an unexpected sensation from her head, an inexplicable warmth surged within Gern’s very core.

Dragon horns were among the most sensitive parts of a dragon’s body. Had Gern grown up in the Sky City, she would have known that, in the draconic worldview, only the most intimate individuals were permitted to touch them.

However, Gern merely attributed this peculiar sensation to her still-incomplete adaptation to her colossal dragon form.

Xiao Ying remained utterly oblivious to Gern’s unusual reaction, gazing downwards with unbridled excitement.

Having advanced to a First-Order Knight, she leveraged her exceptional physical prowess to barely discern the events unfolding below.

Two armies stood in confrontation amidst the vast desert. Their characteristics were starkly distinct: one side was entirely clad in shimmering silver scales, a clear hallmark of the Serpentman race.

The Serpentmen’s scales were comparable to ordinary armor, which explained why the Serpentman race dared to recruit soldiers on such a massive scale.

After only a brief period of basic training, their soldiers could be deployed as expendable cannon fodder.

The Serpentman army was organized into nine formations in total. The eight outer formations consisted of shield-and-sword bearers, while the innermost position was occupied by archers and mages.

The opposing army, in contrast, was predominantly composed of the Fox race.

The Fox race’s entire formation was divided into four squares: front, middle, left, and right. Cavalry guarded the flanks, shield-spearmen formed the vanguard, and archers and mages were positioned in the center.

The forefront of their formation was manned by elite infantry and cavalry, all heavily armored. This configuration clearly indicated a main force.

Forging such a unit undoubtedly demanded considerable time and immense wealth to cultivate its combat effectiveness.

In contrast, the Serpentman faction, whose natural scales provided inherent defensive capabilities, could achieve a certain level of combat readiness without needing to don additional armor.

If it came to a battle of attrition, the Fox race would be at a disadvantage. However, in terms of individual combat prowess, the Fox race was far more formidable than the hastily conscripted Serpentmen.

The Serpentman officer’s heart sank as he surveyed the elite force blocking their path.

Their mission was to reach the Three Mountains Plain by tonight and plug the defensive breach torn open by the enemy.

It now seemed they had arrived too late. This elite unit before them was very likely the very force that had shattered the defenses of the Three Mountains Plain.

“My command! Everyone, prepare for battle!”

Following the officer’s command, the Serpentman formation slowly began to stir.

At the very heart of the formation, a red-haired Fox race woman stood atop a high platform, gazing intently at the shifting Serpentman ranks ahead.

“Everyone, commence the attack according to the original plan.”

“Yes.”

After issuing a series of commands, the red-haired Fox woman inexplicably lifted her gaze towards the horizon.

She couldn’t explain why, but she felt as though a pair of eyes in the sky were constantly fixed upon her.

High above, concealed within the clouds, Gern watched the red-haired Fox race maiden below with lingering apprehension.

She had almost been discovered just moments ago. Fortunately, after transforming into a giant dragon, all her five senses had been greatly enhanced; otherwise, she would have been seen.

That sudden near-exposure also allowed her to clearly see the maiden’s face: it was none other than Miss Mina, who had been on an extended leave of absence.

Encountering Miss Mina here was quite a surprise. This was fortuitous, however, as being the Fox Princess, she would surely possess knowledge about the secret realm.

Once the battle below concluded, Gern could conveniently inquire about the secret realm’s status.

While Gern pondered how to glean information about the secret realm, the two armies below had already clashed.

The Fox cavalry launched the initial assault from both flanks, primarily aiming to harass the Serpentmen’s sides.

Meanwhile, heavy infantry spearheaded the frontal advance. The Fox army’s formation was far more intricate than that of the Serpentmen.

The vanguard soldiers, wielding large shields, pushed forward. Arrows and magic spells striking these shields vanished as if swallowed by the sea.

This development utterly astonished the Serpentman commander, who had not anticipated such a phenomenon.

From high in the sky, Gern recognized it instantly.

The material of these shields was mixed with powdered Demon-warding Stone, which allowed them to withstand magical attacks.

This also indicated that the Fox race had already established a certain foundation in their application of Demon-warding Stones.

If she could acquire the Fox race’s research data on Demon-warding Stones, the effectiveness of her Mana-draining Potion could be elevated even further.

The battle below raged on. Initially, the Serpentmen managed to hold their ground against the Fox race with their formations, but as time wore on, their ranks began to falter and scatter.

After all, they were raw recruits, trained for less than a month, and had endured a long march to reach this point. Resisting for this long was already commendable.

With overwhelming force, the Fox race annihilated a significant portion of the remaining Serpentman soldiers.

From above, it resembled a game of Go; the Serpentman soldiers encircled in the center by the Fox race were rapidly dissolving, merging with the very ground.

Meanwhile, the soldiers outside the encirclement scattered like frightened birds, dispersing across the desert. Among them, one unit remained remarkably orderly, standing out prominently amidst the disorganized Serpentman fighters.

Xiao Ying, the young girl perched atop Gern’s head, witnessed the brutal scene below and gasped, her mouth agape in shock.

Blood, so much blood, covered the ground. She had never seen such a vast quantity of it, nor had she ever witnessed Serpentman soldiers falling in swathes, like wheat being mowed down.

This unfolding spectacle delivered a profound shock to her young mind.
