Chapter 89: The Insatiable Thirst

As a Bloodkin, Aivia naturally had no intention of letting go of the exceptionally delectable human before her.

Gern’s blood was no ordinary human’s; the bite she had taken earlier allowed her to discern the distinct flavors of dragon, serpent, and human.

This unique taste, sampled in a single sip, had completely captivated her. It was like a potent venom, seeping deep into her core, rendering her utterly insatiable.

How could she possibly give up such a prime blood meal?

After Gern had shrugged her off, Aivia followed the lingering scent in the air, which led her to this secluded dormitory.

The surroundings were pleasant, with hardly any human presence, making it an ideal spot for her to make her move.

Aivia stared impassively at the small courtyard, as a pair of blood-red wings slowly unfurled behind her.

With a flicker of her form, she stood atop the roof, then inverted herself, peering into the small room below.

Inside, Gern sat on his bed, Battle Qi permeating his surroundings, swirling around his form.

According to the academy’s cultivation tiers, Gern was already a Knight of the Third Tier, Fourth Realm, with a considerable journey still ahead to reach the Fourth Tier.

The fundamental difference between a Third and Fourth Tier Knight lay in the quality of their Battle Qi. Thus, Gern was currently focused on refining the quality of his Battle Qi and tempering his physical body.

He had clearly recognized his own shortcomings. Magic was something he absolutely had to practice, but before that, Gern intended to hone his existing strengths to their utmost.

His Battle Qi, martial techniques, movement arts, and cultivation methods all had significant room for improvement. What Gern desperately lacked now were martial techniques and movement arts unrelated to the Heretic God Cult.

He knew he couldn’t continuously rely on items from the Heretic God Cult; doing so would inevitably invite great trouble sooner or later.

He secretly resolved that tomorrow, he would visit the academy’s archives. Perhaps he would find suitable martial techniques there.

Upon these thoughts, Gern exhaled softly, and the Battle Qi around him instantly retracted into his body.

He planned to rest early and check the archives after classes tomorrow.

The room’s lighting magic extinguished, yet Aivia did not immediately act. She remained inverted on the wall, flapping her wings like a large bat.

After an indeterminate amount of time, she cautiously extended her petite head downwards.

Seeing that Gern was already asleep, she licked her lips. She simply refused to believe she couldn’t even get a single sip.

Aivia carefully pushed open the window and agilely slipped inside.

She made no sound, moving like a phantom in the night, silently approaching Gern’s bedside.

Upon seeing her long-desired blood meal, Aivia instinctively lunged onto Gern’s bed, aiming to bite his neck.

However, the moment her fangs merely grazed Gern’s shoulder, that light flared once more, shaking Aivia and leaving her momentarily dazed.

Her mouth seemed to be frozen in place on Gern, utterly unable to bite down.

A glint of ferocity flashed in her crimson eyes. She exerted all her strength, intent on sinking her teeth into Gern’s flesh.

But her mouth remained unmoving, powerless to bite the person before her.

“Wuu~”

Poor Aivia was so distressed that tears welled up in her eyes. To be ravenously hungry, with delicious food right before her, yet unable to partake — anyone would find that unbearable.

“Wuu~”

‘Damn witch! I curse you!’

The grey-haired girl forlornly clambered off Gern’s bed, then squatted on the floor, drawing circles with one hand, a gloomy expression clouding her face.

It was as if a dark cloud hung over her head, her resentful emotions threatening to overflow.

*Grumble.*

“So hungry, so hungry. Meat is simply not filling enough, wuu~”

Due to their unique physiology, Bloodkin needed to drink fresh blood to truly sate their hunger.

While they could eat meat to fill their stomachs, for them, meat was ultimately just a flavoring to enhance their palate.

The despondent young Bloodkin squatted for a long while, wanting to leave but feeling reluctant.

She stood by the window, watching for a moment, when her eyes suddenly lit up. She was indeed under a restriction, unable to drink Gern’s blood, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t make Gern bleed.

With this thought, Aivia’s formerly unfocused crimson eyes brightened. She retrieved a delicate small knife from her storage ring and once again approached Gern.

She didn’t rush to strike, instead applying some of her saliva onto the blade.

Bloodkin saliva had an effect similar to that of bats; it could temporarily mask a sleeping person’s senses in that area.

This allowed them to drink blood without the person feeling the bite, ensuring a stealthy feeding.

The small knife pierced Gern’s arm. Her movements were incredibly light, fearful that any significant motion might awaken him.

Fortunately, it was late night, and Gern was in a deep sleep, completely unaware of Aivia’s actions.

Witnessing this, she slowly let out a breath of relief. It seemed her saliva had indeed worked.

Next came Aivia’s favorite part. She excitedly rubbed her small hands together, anticipating the blood that would seep from the wound.

Fine trickles of red blood stained Gern’s wound, and Aivia’s breathing grew heavy with anticipation.

She stared intently at the blood on Gern’s arm, then bit down.

Just as she expected to finally get her desired drink, something unexpected occurred.

Whether Gern sensed something or it was pure instinct, he rolled to the other side of the bed.

Having lunged at empty air, Aivia quickly retreated under the bed, rubbing her small nose.

Once her surroundings grew quiet, Aivia dared to peek out, observing Gern. Finding no signs of him waking, she cautiously approached him once more.

When Aivia’s mouth once again made contact with Gern’s arm, the unexpected happened yet again.

It wasn’t that Gern made another move, but rather the restriction placed upon her had activated once more; she couldn’t bite.

Upon realizing this, Aivia felt herself verge on collapse, and two lines of aggrieved tears streamed down her pristine white cheeks.

” ‘I’m so hungry. Can’t I just have one sip?’ ”

Watching the blood slowly flowing out, and sniffing the scent of Gern’s fresh blood, filled her with immense agony.

Aivia gritted her teeth, refusing to believe she wouldn’t get a single sip of warm blood today!

So, she sprawled across the bed, her upper body draped over Gern, and extended her small tongue to lap up the blood that had already flowed out.

This time, Aivia succeeded. Her beautiful eyes narrowed, completely immersed in the satisfaction of the moment.

” ‘Delicious, truly delicious. I want another bite so badly.’ ”

Aivia greedily drank the fresh blood, her eyes filled with pure ecstasy.
