Chapter 156: Mina’s Misunderstanding

Bang! The door slammed shut with a heavy thud. Lilia slowly poked her head out from beneath the bed, her gaze fixed on the closed door.

“Has she left?”

“Probably.”

Gern rubbed his nose, subtly tucking the small bottle Mina had given him behind his back.

However, his heart and Lilia’s were intrinsically linked; his minor actions could never escape her notice.

“Hm, hand it over.”

“Ugh… what? I… I don’t know.”

Gern attempted to bluff his way through, but Lilia’s eyes turned cold, her voice laden with palpable tension.

“You dare accept things from other women? Throw it away!”

‘Is this… jealousy?’

“No, I’m not jealous! Give it to me!”

Lilia’s face flushed, and she reached out to snatch the small bottle. Gern quickly dodged, clutching the tiny vial tightly in both hands.

“Stop it, this thing is expensive. I’m going to exchange it for money.”

Lilia’s lips twitched. Gern’s avaricious nature was truly ingrained in his very being.

“Gern, if you throw that away, all your future expenses will be on me.”

“Huh? Really?”

“Naturally!”

Lilia spoke with utmost sincerity. After all, they had already signed a soul contract, which meant they would forever be one.

If they were already one, then Lilia’s money was, in essence, Gern’s money too, wasn’t it?

Yet, Gern remained a little conflicted. No matter what, a penny saved was a penny earned. The future was unpredictable; who could guarantee Lilia would always be wealthy?

As Gern mused, he noticed Lilia’s face completely darken, realizing she was about to get angry.

Reluctantly, he finally extended his hand towards Lilia.

Bang! Just then, the room door was abruptly shoved open. The wooden door slammed against the solid wall, creating an exceptionally loud crash.

Both of them froze simultaneously, instinctively turning their heads towards the doorway. In unison, they exclaimed:

“Miss Mina?”

“Princess Mina?”

Mina looked at the two inside the room, a knowing expression spreading across her face, as if to say, “I’ve caught you.”

She didn’t respond to their words. Instead, she closed the door behind her, a strange glint flickering in her eyes.

This sight sent a shiver down both Gern and Lilia’s spines. They had no idea what Mina intended to do.

“You—”

Gern was about to speak when Mina made a shushing gesture.

“Don’t speak yet. Let me guess, what were you two just doing?”

“Miss Lilia is in Mr. Gern’s room, a man and a woman alone together—oh no, perhaps two young women together, engaging in such intimate actions. It truly sparks the imagination.”

“Tell me, am I right?”

Mina smiled faintly, her fiery red hair gently swaying. The two fox ears atop her head occasionally twitched, and a faint, unnatural blush colored her cheeks.

“If I’m right… may I join you?”

In her view, girls could certainly form ‘that kind’ of relationship with each other. Within the Fox race, such occurrences were exceedingly common.

There were relationships between two women, even three women, and more. This was the education she had received since childhood.

Thus, to Mina, all of it was perfectly ordinary.

However, Lilia and Gern had never heard of such things. They exchanged bewildered glances, unable to comprehend Mina’s words.

“Cough, Miss Mina, I believe you must have misunderstood. We are not—”

“Mm-hm, I know. Princess Lilia is too shy to say… So, Miss Gern, what are your thoughts? Do you have someone who can attest that you or Miss Lilia are not ‘that kind’ of relationship?”

‘Miss Gern?’

‘Princess Mina, have you made a mistake somewhere?’

Gern’s eyes widened. He wondered if he had misheard. He glanced at his flat chest, then at his internal organs, corrupted by Chaos.

‘That’s right, I’m a man now. Why would she call me ‘Miss’? Could it be that my identity has been exposed!’

Gern thought nervously, instinctively glancing back at Lilia. Lilia happened to be looking over as well, offering Gern a reassuring gaze.

‘Miss Mina, what do you mean?’

“Miss Lilia, Miss Gern, please don’t misunderstand…”

Mina paused mid-sentence, her eyes darting shrewdly between the two of them before she continued.

“In our Fox race, gender and numbers are not an issue. As long as hearts connect, that is all that matters.”

“Miss Lilia, Miss Gern, I greatly admire your bravery. However… our Fox race is currently facing difficulties and cannot offer any suitable gifts. Therefore…”

She deliberately paused here, leaving ample room for their imaginations to run wild. Yet, seeing their ghost-stricken expressions, she cleared her throat awkwardly and murmured softly.

“Therefore, this humble maiden can only offer myself to you two. Please, do not disdain this humble maiden.”

‘Hiss~ Gern, are all Foxfolk so… uninhibited?’

‘Don’t ask me, I didn’t interact much with the Fox race in my previous life.’

The two rapidly communicated in their minds, both feeling that the situation had spiraled beyond their expectations.

Gern realized that Mina must have mistaken his gender. After all, he was well aware of his own appearance.

His somewhat delicate features, coupled with his long, flowing hair, truly made him appear like a girl at first glance.

‘Ugh… perhaps I should exercise more in the future?’

She stepped forward, drawing from her storage ring a peculiar, three-in-one intimate item designed for women.

Gazing at the utterly lifelike, seemingly malevolent object that shimmered with an unholy light, Gern instinctively recoiled a step.

Lilia, however, reacted with surprising calm. She had seen such ‘small items’ before and found nothing novel about it.

‘Lilia, has Miss Mina lost her mind?’

Gern mused secretly, convinced that in this life, he must have somehow offended Mina’s dearest, thus causing her demeanor to utterly collapse.

After all, in his previous life, Mina had always struck him as a gentle, dignified noblewoman. Gern had never imagined Mina possessed such a side.

Lilia, too, was unsure of Mina’s current state, and she retreated a step alongside Gern.

“Oh? Why are you backing away? I don’t bite.”

Mina looked at them both in confusion, then glanced at the small object in her hand, and understanding dawned on her.

“I suppose you two haven’t seen this before, have you? This is our Fox race’s best-selling little toy. Manufactured by Holy Fox Pavilion, it’s guaranteed safe, so you can rest assured.”

“And I’ll tell you a secret: it’s magic-powered, so you don’t even have to do anything yourselves.”

‘Hiss~ No, I can’t take it, Lilia! I’m out of here!’

Goosebumps erupted all over Gern’s body. Disregarding the fact that they were on the third floor, he simply leaped out the window.

Lilia’s lips twitched uncontrollably. She cast an apologetic glance at Mina.

“My apologies, Miss Mina, but we aren’t very interested in noble traditions. He doesn’t use magic, so I’ll go catch him.”

With that, Lilia also swiftly jumped out the window.

Mina watched the two hastily depart, the light in her eyes gradually dimming.

“You… why did you run?”

She didn’t know why, but she felt an incessant pang in her heart, as if she had lost something vital.
