Chapter 127: Dragonback Squabbles and a Child’s Wish

“Damn it!”

Rex’s eyes were bloodshot, his rifle continuously spewing fire. The monstrous bird in the sky was swiftly enveloped by the power of Holy Light, dissolving into specks of black mist before vanishing completely.

Someone took over Count’s machine gun and his storage ring. The monsters’ assault hadn’t ceased, leaving no time for grief. They could only channel their inner fury, unleashing it entirely upon the surrounding creatures.

Bullets imbued with Holy Light struck the monsters.

Puffs of white smoke billowed from their forms.

A vacuum zone had appeared ahead, created by Bulgar’s cannon fire. The squad members swiftly moved towards it. Taught by Count’s fate, everyone periodically glanced at the sky. Even if flying Chaos creatures remained, they couldn’t approach the squad for now.

Chaos creatures on both flanks attempted to charge the opening. Yet, they were repelled by the squad members, time and again.

Just as everyone believed everything was proceeding smoothly, the ground behind them suddenly cracked open. A colossal humanoid monster, immense in stature, charged towards them.

Each of its steps caused the very earth to tremble ceaselessly.

“Fire! Fire now!”

Boom!

Explosions, gunfire, the thud of running feet, and guttural roars intermingled. It was a grand, chaotic symphony.

Thud!

A squad member at the rear was struck in the chest by a monster. However, they did not die immediately.

The power of Holy Light and the power of Chaos wrestled within their body. Watching the Holy Light within them grow increasingly faint, they offered a grim smile.

“Captain, until we meet again in the next life…”

They murmured, then abruptly tore open their clothing. Beneath, rows of strapped bombs were revealed.

Boom!

A magnificent firework exploded. The colossal monster, too, was transformed into a fleeting display of light.

Meanwhile, high above in the untainted sky, a silver-white silhouette streaked across the heavens.

Aboard the colossal dragon, three young women exchanged uneasy glances. Lilia’s gaze, in particular, made Xiao Ying extremely uncomfortable.

Xiao Ying even wondered if she had somehow offended this older sister. Yet, her memories assured her she had never met this woman before.

As the atmosphere grew increasingly solemn, Xiao Ying finally mustered the courage to ask timidly.

“Sister, is there something on my face?”

“No.”

The two simple words were uttered with extreme frigidity by Lilia. Xiao Ying recoiled, her neck shrinking back in fright.

She then looked towards the gray-haired girl sitting cross-legged on the other side. Upon seeing those blood-red eyes, a shiver ran through her entire body.

The rage emanating from these two older sisters was almost palpable. It felt as though the space would erupt into a battlefield at any moment.

Being so young, she didn’t grasp the intricacies of the situation. However, she instinctively knew this was not where she ought to be.

Thus, she slowly shuffled towards the dragon’s head. She hoped to find her gentle and caring older sister there.

Before she could move far, however, the gazes of both women locked onto her.

“Come back!”

Both spoke in unison, their tones exceptionally stern.

Xiao Ying froze, startled by their simultaneous reprimand. Tears welled up in her eyes.

The little loli’s lips trembled. Unable to move, she could only gaze helplessly at the dragon’s head ahead, hoping Gern would come to her rescue.

However, Gern, focused intently on flying, remained oblivious to the events unfolding on her back.

Lilia took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the irritable emotions within her. Her voice was chilling, almost interrogative, as she asked.

“What is your relationship with Gern?”

‘You and Gern… what is your relationship? Why is she with you?’

Beside them, Aivia narrowed her crimson eyes. She watched the scene unfold with keen interest.

She, too, was curious why Gern had gone to such great lengths to rescue Xiao Ying moments before.

“Little one, tell us truthfully, what is your relationship with Gern?”

Xiao Ying felt oppressed by the two powerful auras. Her small hands tightly clutched the hem of her clothes, her voice tinged with fear.

“I… I was saved by Big Sister… Big Sister is very kind to me. She said I remind her a lot of her past self.”

Upon hearing this, Lilia’s brows immediately relaxed. It turned out this little one and Gern did not have ‘that’ kind of relationship.

Indeed, upon closer thought, it made sense. This little one was only around ten years old, perhaps even younger. How could Gern possibly be interested in such a young girl? Lilia realized her worry had clouded her judgment.

She glanced at Xiao Ying’s frail figure and timid eyes. The inexplicable hostility in her heart largely dissipated.

“My apologies, Big Sister was impulsive just now.”

Though Lilia’s voice still lacked much warmth, it was no longer chillingly cold. She reached out, gently stroking Xiao Ying’s head, a gesture meant to soothe her.

As long as this little girl and Gern weren’t involved in ‘that’ kind of relationship, Lilia wouldn’t interfere too much. As long as no boundaries were crossed, it was fine.

Xiao Ying felt the warmth from the golden-haired girl’s hand. Timidly, she looked up. Seeing the gentle expression on Lilia’s face, she hastily said, “Big Sister…”

“Big Sister and Big Sister Gern make a very good match…”

The words slipped out almost unconsciously. A faint blush immediately bloomed on Lilia’s cheeks.

She wanted to praise the little girl, but then a cold, mocking voice rang out from nearby.

“Heh heh, are you saying *she*, a lunatic, is a good match for *my* blood s*ave?”

Aivia eyed Lilia coldly, her crimson eyes filled with blatant provocation. This instantly infuriated Lilia.

However, they were on Gern’s back, making a fight impossible at this moment. Thus, Lilia retorted.

“Yes, I’m like someone else. You’re so obviously trying to steal her, it’s practically oozing out of you.”

“You!”

Aivia’s eyes widened. For a moment, she couldn’t think of a retort.

“If you’ve got the guts, let’s fight!”

“Tsk tsk, hasn’t someone learned their lesson from me yet?”

Aivia’s chest heaved violently. The ‘peaks’ of her chest swayed gently with her rapid breaths.

“Oh, really, Lilia? One day, I will make Gern my blood s*ave completely, and lock her away forever!”

Lilia shrugged indifferently. A hint of disdain flickered in her sapphire eyes.

“Then I’ll be waiting. Let’s see if you lock Gern up first, or if I do.”

“You!”

Aivia felt she couldn’t argue with this person any longer. Another few words, and she’d surely explode with anger.

Watching the two women bicker, Xiao Ying covered her mouth and secretly giggled. Her lingering fear had now completely vanished.

“Big Sister Lilia, what exactly is your relationship with Big Sister Gern?”

“Hmm? Well…”

Lilia pondered for a moment, a smile gracing her lips.

“We’re family, I suppose. The very, very close kind.”

Hearing this, Xiao Ying’s eyes immediately lit up. The word ‘family’ was a luxury far too great for her. Without thinking, she blurted out.

“I want to be family with Big Sister Gern too!”

“Hmm?”

Two sharp gazes once again fell upon Xiao Ying.
