Chapter 132: The Primordial Chaos Art and the Perilous Journey

Having used this cultivation technique for nearly an entire lifetime in her previous life, Gern found the associated knowledge and experience deeply etched into her mind.

Without needing elaborate techniques, Gern subtly activated the cultivation method. Then, she extended a hand to touch the swirling Chaos power before her.

*Swoosh!* The Chaos power surged towards Gern like a tempest, enveloping her entirely. She had long grown accustomed to such overwhelming displays.

Calmly, Gern closed her eyes, her mind replaying the intricate steps of the Primordial Chaos Art.

Following the remembered motions, Gern’s hands began to form intricate seals. The surrounding Chaos power, as if suddenly tamed, relinquished its ferocious demeanor and began to float gently around her.

As time elapsed, a torrent of Chaos power flooded her body, causing Gern’s feet to appear subtly ethereal.

Gradually, the surging power within her body stabilized, and Gern finally exhaled a long, turbid breath.

The cultivation of the Primordial Chaos Art was nearly complete, allowing her to enter the Chaos Land with a newfound sense of security.

However, one critical caveat remained: the Chaos power must not be allowed to grow too strong, lest it trigger a devastating backlash.

In severe instances, this could lead to the minor consequence of her body becoming chaotic, or, in the worst case, her complete disintegration.

Gern made a quick adjustment, then cast a glance at her now semi-transparent feet, letting out a helpless sigh.

Still, this was an acceptable side effect. A simple change of shoes would suffice, as minor chaotic transformations could easily be concealed.

The Netherworld Steps were unleashed once more, elevating Gern’s speed to an entirely new echelon. The technique now felt even more fluid and responsive in her execution.

Gern’s form became wraith-like, her entire being seamlessly merging with the encroaching darkness. In this desolate, obsidian expanse, she moved like a true phantom.

The deeper she delved into this blighted, ravaged land, the more suffocating and intense the oppressive aura became.

The earth lay parched and cracked, its vegetation withered into a morbid, ash-grey decay.

Repulsive Chaos creatures, grotesquely twisted beyond recognition, swarmed the area. A mere glimpse of them was enough to induce a dizzying nausea.

These monsters lurked near the periphery, and if left unchecked, they posed a grave threat to the people beyond this desolate realm.

After a moment of consideration, Gern decided it would be prudent to eliminate these creatures first.

Her eyes narrowed intently, and a heavy sniper rifle materialized in her grasp. *Bang!* The colossal recoil forced a grunt from Gern.

A bullet, thick as a thumb, shot forth with blistering speed, seemingly tearing through the black mist of Chaos power and leaving elegant ripples in its wake.

*Pffft—pffft!* The bullet, after piercing one Chaos creature, did not halt its trajectory but continued onward. Any monster struck by it instantly disintegrated into a pile of ashes under the dazzling white light, vanishing from existence.

Ultimately, the Holy Light-imbued bullet lodged itself within a colossal monster, one that bore a startling resemblance to a human warrior.

Before the creature could even launch an assault on Gern, faint specks of light began to emanate from its very being.

*Boom! Boom!* The monster detonated in a violent explosion, leaving not even a trace of ash behind.

Gern swallowed hard. ‘This weapon truly packs a punch against Chaos creatures.’

‘Given that I’m currently half a Chaos creature myself, what would happen if that projectile struck me?’

*Hiss—* Gern drew a sharp breath, already envisioning the grim scenario of being struck by such a devastating force.

‘I’d be scattered in pieces, not even a shadow of my former self remaining. This thing is truly terrifying.’

Having dispatched the peripheral rabble, she swiftly moved with stealth toward the entrance of the secret realm.

As she moved, she remained acutely aware of her surroundings. Suddenly, a peculiar anomaly in the terrain ahead caught her eye.

Unnaturally formed craters began to mar the ground, alongside scattered metal casings that gleamed with a faint, unmistakable Holy Light.

“Someone has been here? And they wield Holy Light power?” Gern’s heart constricted with a sudden realization, causing her to slow her pace and heighten her vigilance.

The deeper she ventured, the more pronounced the signs of battle became: shattered monster remains still writhing in attempts to regenerate, distinct footprints on the ground, and discarded Holy Light-infused shell casings.

Every detail here pointed to a fierce battle that had transpired in this very spot not long before.

Gern pressed onward, and along her path, she encountered even more harrowing sights.

Monster corpses, seared by Holy Light, lay strewn about, interspersed with massive craters blasted into the earth by an unknown force.

The only small comfort Gern could find was the absence of any signs indicating casualties within the squad thus far.

Gern pressed deeper into the inky blackness of the area, eventually halting at a site that bore the unmistakable marks of a violent explosion.

A potent Holy Light aura still permeated the air. Amidst several grotesquely twisted monster corpses lay a scattered Holy Light Charm and an untainted medal.

Gern knelt, slowly retrieving the medal, and observed the insignia emblazoned on its face.

Her expression immediately soured.

The Holy Light Charm had evidently shielded it from the corruption of Chaos power, yet fresh blood still stained the medal’s surface.

Her gaze swept across the surroundings, revealing faintly glowing Holy Light Charms scattered amongst gruesome human remains.

This team had clearly suffered significant losses, with many having fallen in this very spot.

The escalating number of monsters lurking nearby further cemented her suspicion that this particular squad was facing overwhelming odds.

Gern sighed, a touch of resignation in her breath. She genuinely wished to discover who possessed the audacity to delve so deeply into this treacherous place under such dire circumstances.

After a brief respite and clearing the immediate vicinity of monsters, she pressed onward, following the lingering traces of the squad’s struggle, and sped towards the core region.

Along the path lay mutilated remains, some savagely torn apart by sharp claws, their deaths agonizing. Gern’s heart sank further with each gruesome discovery. This squad, she realized, was truly in a perilous situation.

Finally, after felling a swath of Chaos creatures, she discerned the faint yet undeniably fierce sounds of battle emanating from ahead.

Gern’s expression froze, her initial reaction being that she was merely hallucinating. It took a moment for the realization to dawn: the squad that had plunged into the Chaos Land still had surviving members.

She swiftly pushed the Netherworld Steps to their absolute limit, her form merging seamlessly with the shadows as she moved silently towards the source of the commotion.

When her eyes fell upon the dense, tide-like swarm of Chaos creatures, a shiver ran down her spine.

What astonished her even more was the sight of two figures still standing amidst the very heart of that monstrous horde.

“Heh, Black and the others should have made it inside, right?” a soldier, caked in blood and dust, uttered with a trembling voice.

“They should have,” the burly middle-aged man beside him replied with a grim smile, expertly swapping out a spent magazine. “I can’t hear their gunfire anymore.” He added, “This is his last one.”

Once these bullets were expended, they would truly be forced into a desperate melee with the monsters. This burly, middle-aged man, who had remained to hold back the creatures, was none other than Captain Rex, a man Gern had encountered once before.
