Join the Server“Hold the line! Don’t break formation!” Rex’s roar, though forceful, seemed somewhat muted amidst the fierce gunshots. He wielded his Meteorite Spear with all his might, yet the monster’s movements were too swift for him to discern.
A sickening rip—
Another body crumpled to the ground. This time, an invisible force had torn it in two, its organs and blood splattering across the dark earth, instantly corroded and dissolved by the chaotic mist.
The monster’s form finally revealed itself to everyone. It was a creature resembling a human, yet possessing a tail and tusks.
Where fingers should have been, they had specialized, growing into massive, white, scythe-like claws.
Its claws were enormous, the backs of its hands covered in grayish-white crystals. Several Holy Light bullets were embedded in these crystals.
Their previous attacks hadn’t even managed to breach the monster’s flesh.
Judging by its appearance, it seemed entirely unfazed by Holy Light-attributed weapons.
The next moment, the monster vanished from Rex’s sight like a ghost. When it reappeared, it was less than a meter from him.
Its massive claw swung towards Rex, sending a prickle of dread through his scalp. A spear instantly materialized in his hand.
It was the Meteorite Spear General Bape had once used. Yet the monster’s speed was simply too great; Rex had no time to react.
In that critical moment, a pitch-black longsword intercepted the blow in front of Rex.
*Clang!*
The longsword and claw collided, sending out scorching sparks. Gern felt as though he’d been struck by an elephant; his sword-wielding right arm hummed with pain, twisting into an alarmingly unnatural shape.
Intense pain made Gern’s forehead break out in a cold sweat. He quickly retreated two steps, shedding the remaining impact force, having barely managed to block the monster’s attack.
The monster, having failed its strike, did not pursue. Instead, it retreated back into the black mist, giving the group no chance to counter.
“Gern, old friend, you…”
“I’m fine…”
Gern looked at his twisted right arm, reaching out to touch the joint. After a moment, he let out a sigh of relief.
‘Fortunately, it’s only dislocated, not broken.’
He fumbled for a moment. Then, with a forceful pull from his left hand, a distinct *crack* echoed, and his right arm returned to its normal position.
The mere sight of the action was enough to make one wince in pain. Gern was indeed in agony; he shook his arm, unable to recover from the lingering ache.
It seemed he would have to rely on his left hand for the rest of the battle. If his right hand took another hit from that creature, he likely wouldn’t be so fortunate.
His actions earned the admiration of most present. Everyone instinctively encircled Gern, placing him at the center of their formation, forming a human wall and remaining constantly vigilant for any potential danger.
Gern felt a warmth spread through his heart at their actions. He more diligently spread his spiritual power, attempting to discern the creature’s next move.
*Whoosh!*
Gern’s eyes flickered. Just then, he pushed off the ground, his body moving like lightning, leaping over the human wall formed by the others.
His longsword slashed out, a crimson blade light shooting directly towards the newly revealed dark silhouette!
*Clang!*
Another deafening roar erupted! This time, Gern saw it more clearly.
The monster’s crystal-covered hand blocked the attack. His sword qi had failed to breach its defenses.
Gern wasn’t surprised by this. In fact, it would have been abnormal if his sword qi had managed to break its defense.
As Gern’s sword light fell, the others reacted, focusing their fire on the dark silhouette.
*Clang, clang, clang, clang, clang!*
Holy Light bullets weren’t very effective against this monster; most of them were easily parried by the creature.
However, the Holy Light bullets clearly irritated it. It seemed to grow angry, its crimson eyes fixing on Gern.
“ROAR!” The monster’s inhuman roar echoed through the heavens and earth, making everyone’s eardrums ache.
Gern rubbed his ears, which throbbed from the sound wave. The next moment, the monster vanished.
No, it hadn’t vanished. Its speed was simply too immense, giving Gern no time to react whatsoever.
Gern only had time to bring his longsword horizontally before him. Immense power, like a surging tide, crashed against the blade.
Gern grunted, the web of skin between his thumb and forefinger tearing. Blood instantly stained the sword hilt crimson.
He was thrown backward uncontrollably, crashing hard into the human wall and knocking several people down.
A sudden sweetness filled his throat. A trickle of blood escaped the corner of his mouth.
He was utterly outmatched. Even with all his strength, he had no chance of retaliating against his opponent.
Gern struggled to his feet. The monster charged at him once more.
‘Seriously, not even a moment to catch my breath?’
Gern let out a cold laugh. His hands trembled as he tightened his grip on the sword hilt.
This time, he wasn’t sure if he could withstand another blow. A faint sense of despair began to surface in his heart.
This feeling hadn’t appeared for a very long time. The last time was in his previous life, facing Lilia, facing that brutal individual.
‘Wait, where is Lilia?’
It was only then that Gern realized he hadn’t seen Lilia for a while. ‘Could she have…’
Before Gern could ponder further, the monster was already upon him. Just as its sharp claws were about to descend, poised to tear Gern to shreds—
“By this fervent flame, purge all defilement!”
Scorching flames, like an enraged phoenix, swept forth from behind the monster.
The flames instantly engulfed the monster, emitting crackling sounds as if burning dry branches.
Just then, a golden figure emerged from behind the monster.
Lilia’s face was pale, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Clearly, forcefully activating magic of this caliber had placed an immense strain on her.
“Hmph, Gern, you owe me for this.”
She said, a hint of weakness in her voice, and then coughed up a mouthful of blood, making Gern’s heart fiercely clench at the sight.
“Lilia, what’s wrong?”
“I’m fine. That thing’s still alive, so don’t let your guard down.”
Gern nodded. He looked at the monster, which seemed to be enduring the scorching flames, as the blood-red light from his longsword intensified dramatically.
Seemingly sensing a threat, the monster ignored the flames engulfing its body, retreating deeper into the black mist.
Just as everyone thought they could catch their breath, they saw the monster reappear on the other side of their squad.
*Rip!*
*Bang, bang, bang!*
Gern’s face showed signs of exhaustion. The monster was already vastly superior in strength, and now it was specifically targeting the weaker members. If this continued, their deaths here were inevitable.
‘What should we do? What can we do now?’
‘Wait a minute,’ Gern thought. ‘Is this Chaos power always circulating around this monster?’
Gern rubbed his eyes, suspecting he might have seen wrong.
Just then, Lilia playfully patted Gern’s shoulder, startling Gern, who jolted violently.
“Hmph, don’t joke around at a time like this. What is it?”
“Aren’t you curious about what I just did?”
Gern looked at Lilia, puzzled.
“What did you do?”
“Here, take a look at this.”
As she spoke, Lilia produced a small bottle, completely corroded by Chaos power, and opened it.
Gern glanced inside curiously, spotting a broken purple crystal.
“A Chaos Crystal?!”
