Chapter 114: The Race for Gern

In the midst of the vast desert, two young women faced each other. The atmosphere around them grew increasingly tense, verging on white-hot.

The bandits, who had initially intended to rob Lilia, couldn’t help but whisper among themselves at the sight before them.

“Hey, boss, who is that person? Do you know her?”

“It looks like she has a grudge against this one. How about we team up with her and rob this fellow?”

“Shut up!”

The First-Rank Knight among the bandits rubbed their head, a headache brewing.

While the person in the sky seemingly harbored animosity towards their chosen target, making her a potential ally in capturing Lilia, her cultivation realm was at least that of a Third-Rank Knight or Mage.

Even if their group truly managed to subdue Lilia, could they possibly hold onto the stolen goods with their meager strength?

“We’re not staying here any longer. Let’s go.”

The bandit leader immediately decided to retreat with her subordinates.

It was clear she was a capable leader, possessing an extremely sharp assessment of the current situation.

However, they had encountered Lilia, and more critically, they had delayed her meeting with Gern. This was something Lilia absolutely could not tolerate.

“Stop! Did I say you could leave?!”

Lilia’s clear voice resonated in the ears of everyone present, her inherent authority and dominance laid bare.

Such an aura immediately revealed the oppressive presence of a true superior.

For a moment, the bandits dared not make a move. Lilia merely cast a few earth spells, trapping them in place, before turning her attention back to Aivia above.

“Tell me, what are you doing here?!”

Lilia’s voice was frigid, almost to the point of freezing.

Hearing this, Aivia in the sky let out a cold snort, unwilling to be outdone.

“Hmph, my affairs are none of your concern.”

“I’m curious, though. Why are you impersonating Gern?”

‘Let me guess, you must be looking for Gern, right?’

Aivia’s intentions were instantly seen through by Lilia, prompting a surge of humiliated fury within her.

She glared at Lilia, and a scythe materialized in her hand.

‘Enough talk, you nuisance blocking my meal!’

Aivia, the grey-haired girl, swooped down towards Lilia. Seeing her intent to attack without reason, Lilia showed no signs of panic.

In Lilia’s perception, Aivia’s cultivation had only advanced by a minor realm; she was no match for her.

As Aivia plunged downwards, a booming sound erupted, and an invisible magical barrier shimmered into existence before Lilia.

Aivia possessed no magical talent, and facing Lilia’s ‘turtle shell,’ she had no effective recourse other than to break it with brute force.

“Lilia, come out if you dare!”

“You’re so formidable, why don’t you come in then?”

Lilia provocatively crooked a finger, enticing Aivia to continue her assault.

Aivia could not endure such provocation. She immediately swung her scythe, unleashing a crimson blade shadow.

Boom!

The blade energy shattered inch by inch, leaving only a faint scratch on Lilia’s shield.

“Turtle shell, you stinking turtle shell! I want to see how long you can keep that up!”

Aivia, refusing to be deterred, brandished her scythe, transforming it into streaks of afterimages. Her relentless onslaught was comparable to an entire army.

The cracks on Lilia’s shield became increasingly pronounced.

With a resounding crack, the sturdy magical barrier finally succumbed to the overwhelming force, shattering into fragments.

“Oh, not bad at all.”

Lilia watched the crimson-clad girl in the sky with a hint of surprise, a trace of approval surfacing in her heart.

She had constructed this magical barrier herself, and thus, she was well aware of its strength.

To break her shield was no feat for an ordinary person; at least, not for cultivators of her same rank.

Lilia watched the girl charging towards her from the sky with keen interest, the corners of her lips curving upwards.

Aivia’s current state was precisely what Lilia had hoped for.

She hadn’t had a truly satisfying fight in a long time, and this opportunity would allow her to thoroughly stabilize her cultivation realm.

“Go!”

As Lilia’s words echoed, a ball of fire suddenly materialized in her hand, followed by more flames slowly appearing in the air behind her.

Countless fireballs, as if possessing eyes, hurtled directly towards Aivia’s head.

At this sight, Aivia was momentarily stunned. Yet, her reactions were swift; she shifted her scythe to block, deflecting most of the incoming damage.

Though some flames still singed her clothes, Aivia quickly detected them and extinguished them with her battle qi.

After these two exchanges, the sheer consumption of energy from this single encounter left Aivia somewhat overwhelmed.

She had no idea where this opponent had found such an opportunity for growth. If Aivia were still at her previous realm, she wouldn’t have been pushed into such a sorry state.

Aivia gritted her teeth, but she still refused to abandon this excellent opportunity.

She vigorously swung her scythe, and crimson blade qi transformed into a swarm of shrieking bat shadows, flying towards Lilia.

Clang, clang, clang~

The bats were blocked by a colossal ice wall, all of Aivia’s attacks striking its surface.

The ice wall was riddled with cracks from the bat attacks, yet it showed no signs of shattering.

Aivia inwardly groaned. This monster had actually grown so strong. If she continued to wear herself out against Lilia, she might truly be unable to defeat her.

“How about this: we race to see who can catch Gern first? The one who catches Gern first must promise never to interact with them again in this lifetime. What do you say?”

Upon hearing this, Lilia’s lips curved into a strange smile. Aivia’s proposal was perfectly to her liking.

Aivia might have once surpassed her in speed, but that was in the past.

Now, Lilia’s Mage class was rapidly approaching Fourth-Rank. What could a person who hadn’t even touched the threshold of Fourth-Rank possibly compare with her?

Moreover, Lilia carried an item that could directly pinpoint Gern’s location, so she had absolutely nothing to fear.

“Alright then, but don’t go back on your word. And don’t come crying when you can’t find Gern later.”

“Hmph.”

Aivia let out a cold snort, showing no intention of continuing her prolonged struggle with Lilia. She turned and flew north.

Seeing Aivia depart, Lilia’s gaze swept over the people who had just tried to rob her, and she let out a cold laugh.

“I won’t kill you. If you want to get out, you’ll have to figure it out yourselves.”

She was not so benevolent as to simply let them go, even if they had a reason for their actions.

After all, they had intended to rob her. Lilia sparing their lives was already an act of immense leniency.

After uttering these words, a pair of fiery red wings materialized behind Lilia, and she soared off in the direction Aivia had vanished.

Only the bandits and the coachman remained, staring up at the distant sky.

“Boss, did… did we survive?”

“Survive my ass! With earth walls five or six meters high, how are we supposed to escape? We don’t even have any tools!”

The female bandit:

“Hey, you outside, can you please help us?”
