Join the ServerThe sudden turn of events forced Gern to abandon all her previous plans. The spread of Chaos power was far more rapid than she had anticipated. If she didn’t warn everyone swiftly, they would soon face hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions, of Chaos creatures.
Mere minutes later, Gern finally arrived above the Serpentman Royal City.
Perhaps it was the chaos Lilia and the others had caused, but the Serpentman Royal City was currently under strict martial law. Upon seeing Gern appear in the skies above, everyone in the city grew tense.
“Who goes there!”
From a tall building within the city, a man stepped forward. He was of distinguished appearance, clad in exceptionally luxurious robes. Judging by his demeanor, he was likely the current Serpentman King.
Beside the Serpentman King stood a figure Gern recognized well: Kaled Turner, Quade’s father. Their joint appearance was unsurprising, as the Turner family was considered the most prominent family among the Serpentfolk, possibly even linked through marriage.
Observing the two men consult with furrowed brows, Gern wasted no time. She flapped her wings, stirring a powerful gust of wind to capture their attention.
“Who’s there!”
Kaled and the King looked skyward, spotting a massive silver figure. As the most knowledgeable individuals in the entire kingdom, they had, of course, seen giant dragons before.
However, a silver dragon was a sight neither had ever witnessed, especially one hovering directly over their city. Kaled’s face immediately darkened, his expression clearly hostile toward this uninvited guest.
Gern had no intention of mincing words with the two. She loudly declared her purpose.
“Gentlemen, I am not here to fight. Chaos power is invading from outside the city. You must quickly organize your people and evacuate!”
Hearing this, the Serpentman King and Kaled exchanged a look. Forgetting Gern’s earlier interruption, they rushed to the city wall.
When they beheld the overwhelming black mist surging from the distance, their hearts sank. The Serpentman King’s forehead glistened with cold sweat as he looked helplessly at Kaled beside him.
Kaled was in equally dire straits, his legs trembling from the sheer, boundless aura emanating from afar.
“Duke Kaled, we must quickly organize an evacuation,” the Serpentman King stammered.
Kaled frowned, hesitating for a moment. His son, Quade, was still missing, and Quade’s existence was crucial for future alliances of the Serpent race. Should Quade perish here, he would have no face to meet the family elders.
“Your Majesty, please lead the people away first. I will continue searching for Quade; perhaps he will be found soon.”
“This…”
The Serpentman King wished to persuade Kaled, but seeing the resolute determination in Kaled’s eyes, he sighed resignedly. “Duke Kaled, take care.”
The Serpentman King departed, leaving Kaled to stand alone on the city wall, gazing into the distance. Time ticked by, minute by minute, and gradually, he found himself unable to stand still any longer.
“Carter! Quickly, go into the city and organize a group of refugees to search for Quade outside the city. Tell them that the Turner family will handsomely reward anyone who finds Quade’s whereabouts!”
A guard by Kaled’s side snapped his heels together, punched his chest with one hand, and saluted Kaled. “Understood, Duke Kaled.”
The common folk within the city had no understanding of Chaos power. Hearing that finding a serpent outside the city would earn them a gold coin, all the refugees rushed toward the city gates like madmen, vying to be first.
They had no idea what awaited them beyond the city walls. Many would likely lose their lives in the Chaos due to this impulsive rush.
As time continued to pass, nobles gradually began to react. Confusion soon became the dominant theme throughout the Royal City. All of this stemmed from Gern’s deliberate announcement of the Chaos invasion during her conversation with the Serpentman King.
Many noble families within the city possessed some knowledge of Chaos power. Upon hearing that Chaos power was about to envelop the area, they frantically packed their belongings and fled. This led to widespread disorder within the city.
Gern wanted precisely this outcome. Seizing the opportunity while everyone in the city was in disarray, she soared above the Turner family compound. She had initially expected everything to go smoothly, but after circling the area several times, she still couldn’t find the familiar figure.
Gern’s anger surged, her eyes glinting dangerously. Just as her internal fury reached its peak, she spotted a small figure moving against the flow of people in a corner of the Royal City. With just that one glance, Gern was certain it was Xiao Ying, the very person she was searching for!
Moments before, Xiao Ying had timidly emerged from a corner. She had searched the Royal City repeatedly, yet found no trace of Gern, which left her spirits incredibly low.
Now, seeing so many people frantically fleeing the city, it was clear that something terrible was happening outside, causing such widespread panic within. She worried deeply for Gern’s safety, as Gern was one of the few people she could trust. She couldn’t imagine what would become of her if she were separated from Gern.
“Sister… Sister, where are you?” Xiao Ying’s body trembled slightly, her voice laced with a hint of a sob. Gradually, her gaze drifted toward the city outside. Xiao Ying silently steeled her resolve, turning resolutely against the tide of people and heading toward the city gates.
Just then, a whistling wind sounded in her ears. She whirled around, her eyes falling upon the incredibly familiar figure. As she saw the familiar silver shadow in the sky, tears immediately streamed down her face.
‘It’s Sister! Her sister has come to pick her up…’
It was like a beacon of light in the darkness. Thankfully, she hadn’t given up; thankfully, her sister hadn’t forgotten her.
“Sister!”
“Get on!” Gern flapped her wings, slowly descending beside Xiao Ying. This scene attracted the attention of many, who had never seen a dragon before but had heard tales of the precious materials derived from their bodies.
However, their immediate priority was to escape, so no one dared to target Gern. Gern extended her tail towards Xiao Ying. Xiao Ying’s eyes sparkled as she eagerly embraced the massive silver tail, her face beaming with happiness and contentment.
Gern’s mouth twitched. Suppressing the strange sensation on her tail, she gently lifted Xiao Ying onto her back. Then, with a powerful beat of her wings, her enormous figure swiftly ascended from the ground.
From above, the entire Serpentman Royal City had devolved into utter chaos. Fights erupted intermittently, but these quarreling serpents were quickly knocked down by the fleeing masses behind them, instantly swallowed by the torrent of confusion.
The Chaos power in the distance drew ever closer. Gern ignored the pandemonium below, carrying Xiao Ying swiftly away into the distance. This matter was beyond the scope of mere individuals like them; they needed a long-term strategy.
Their best course of action would be to find the Fox race. They had jointly guarded a secret realm from which Chaos power overflowed, so perhaps they would know of a way to counter it.
