Chapter 129: A Dragon’s Promise and a Subtle Shift

The silver-white colossal dragon soared over the dunes, slowly descending upon this rather secluded spot.

Gern had deliberately chosen this remote location to conceal her secrets, ensuring it would effectively evade the attention of the distant Fox race army formation.

The only minor drawback was that catching up to the Fox race army later would require some time. However, these were trivial matters; she could simply rejoin them when the time came.

Seeing Gern steady herself, Lilia and Aivia promptly dismounted from the dragon’s back.

Lilia purposefully stepped in front of Gern, her gaze fixed on the silver dragon that had now matured to its juvenile stage. Her eyes held both reluctance and concern.

Gern’s massive dragon head turned towards Lilia, and with a comforting gesture, she opened her draconic maw.

“Lilia, it’s alright. Don’t forget, I was once a member of the Heretic God Cult. I am intimately familiar with Chaos power, so there’s no need for you to worry about me.”

“Mmm…”

Despite Gern’s words, Lilia could not entirely put her mind at ease about Gern going alone. If only she, too, could withstand the corruption of Chaos power, then entering alongside Gern would be ideal.

“Whoa~ Sister, your tail, stop your tail for a moment! I can’t get down!”

Hearing the cry from behind her, Gern turned her head to look.

Unbeknownst to her, her tail had begun to sway on its own. A dragon’s tail could, to a certain extent, express emotions.

Had a true dragon been present, they would surely have discerned Gern’s slightly joyful mood at that moment.

As Gern turned, Lilia spoke up, and Gern then fixed her gaze on her tail. There, she spotted a slender black figure clinging tightly to it, resembling a living ornament.

Gern felt a pang of embarrassment. She struggled to control her tail, and finally, the constantly swaying silver dragon tail ceased its movements.

Xiao Ying, trapped on the tail, was finally able to free herself.

The moment her feet touched the ground, her eyes welled up. She had truly been terrified.

She had been about to dismount when, to her surprise, her sister’s tail suddenly began to move.

If Xiao Ying’s physical prowess hadn’t reached the level of a First-rank Knight, that sudden movement would have surely flung her away from Gern.

“Cough, my apologies…”

Gern felt a bit awkward. Her tail, it seemed, occasionally had a mind of its own, a tendency she found impossible to control.

Much like involuntary actions such as breathing or blinking, even without conscious effort from Gern, her tail would occasionally twitch and move.

Xiao Ying gazed at Gern with a pained expression, saying nothing. She merely hugged her knees tightly, looking utterly forlorn, as if she had been wronged.

Gern sighed with resignation. The next moment, a brilliant light burst forth from her, and her massive form began to rapidly shrink, ultimately returning to the familiar figure of the silver-haired girl.

“Xiao Ying, Sister truly didn’t mean it.”

“Mhm…”

Xiao Ying nodded, then slowly raised her head, her gaze burning as she looked at Gern.

“Sister Gern, are you going to that dark, dark place?”

Gern’s expression faltered for a moment. She instinctively glanced towards the black mist gradually expanding in the distance, then spoke gently.

“Yes, Sister has a very, very important task to do later.”

“Mmm… is that so…”

Xiao Ying’s eyelids drooped. She hadn’t cried earlier because Gern had scared her; rather, she had overheard Lilia and Gern’s conversation. Despite her young age, she was far from foolish.

Her earlier actions had merely been a ploy to capture Gern’s attention. Now, Gern’s demeanor was precisely like that of her parents when they had departed for battle.

The thought brought an unstoppable flow of tears to Xiao Ying’s eyes.

Seizing the moment while Gern was distracted, she abruptly hugged Gern’s soft waist, her voice laced with a faint sob.

“Sister Gern, you’ll come back, won’t you?”

Gern was instantly caught between laughter and tears. She glanced back at Lilia, silently conveying that she hadn’t initiated this; Xiao Ying had embraced her on her own accord.

Lilia remained silent, moving quietly behind Gern and gently leaning against her back.

“Luoya, you’ll come back, won’t you?”

“Lilia, why are you also…”

“Tell me, you’ll come back, won’t you?”

Faced with such earnestness from Lilia, Gern felt a jolt of surprise. Deep within her, a warm current slowly surfaced. She turned her head and nodded.

“Yes, rest assured, I will definitely return.”

“Now, I need to take you both to a safe place. Lilia, do you remember the Fox race miss who helped us before?”

“Hmm? Are you talking about Mina?”

“Yes, she is the commander of that army. I’ll feel at ease entrusting you to her care.”

“I see…”

Lilia nodded with a sense of relief, now understanding why Gern had gone to such lengths to bypass the areas corrupted by Chaos power.

In truth, Gern also harbored the intention of scouting the Chaos power within. From the current observations, the threat of Chaos power here was not to be underestimated.

“Alright, once I adjust my state, we’ll go find Mina.”

With those words, Gern walked alone to a relatively secluded spot and removed her clothes.

Then, with a flicker of thought, a dazzling white light burst forth. Her delicate, petite body slowly elongated, and before long, a well-proportioned young man stood in her place.

Standing upon the vast desert, Gern stretched his limbs. As he retrieved clothes from his storage ring and began to dress, he instinctively avoided touching the two areas on his chest.

Only after he had finished dressing did he realize that his chest was now entirely devoid of those two ‘slimes.’

He covered his head in vexation, a faint smile playing on his lips. Spending so much time in his female form had truly led to some peculiar habits.

It seemed he would have to use his female form less often in the future, ideally not at all if possible. If he were to live as a woman for several years, he might truly fall into complete ‘degeneration.’

Gern shook his head, casting away all these thoughts from his mind.

He took out a bronze mirror, glanced at his current appearance, and nodded with satisfaction before stepping out.

“Hmm?!”

The moment Lilia saw Gern emerge, a flicker of brightness passed through her eyes.

She watched Gern, now clad in beast-folk style attire, with keen interest, feeling that he possessed a unique charm in this form.

“Hm? Is there something on my face?”

Gern looked bewildered. He glanced down at his outfit—clothes he had purchased earlier to impersonate Quade. He had thought they looked quite good, which was why he wore them.

‘Hmm… could Lilia dislike this outfit of mine?’

A blush spread across Lilia’s cheeks. Gern in this form held an inexplicable allure for her. To maintain her composure in his eyes, she cleared her throat, striving to conceal her current feelings.

“Nothing at all. Gern, let’s go.”

Gern shook his head but said nothing further. In this manner, the group slowly approached the Fox race army formation.

The Fox race soldiers, already in a state of battle readiness, immediately grew wary upon seeing Gern’s peculiar small team.

“Halt! State your purpose!”
