Join the ServerThe sharp long spear of the leading Fox guard was poised before the group.
He warily scrutinized the strange combination before him, his expression exceptionally grave.
This era was far from peaceful, especially with such an odd trio: two humans and a Serpentman bloodline member.
Seeing this, Gern stepped forward, shielding Lilia and Aivia behind her.
A smile, as friendly as she could make it, graced her face.
“Don’t be alarmed; we mean no harm. We are friends of Princess Mina and have matters to discuss with the Fox Princess.”
“Friends of Her Highness, the Fox Princess?”
The guard captain eyed Gern suspiciously, his gaze sweeping over her Serpentman attire.
“What is your connection to the Serpentmen?!”
The guard captain roared suddenly, and the surrounding vigilant guards, hearing the commotion, rushed over.
They swiftly encircled Gern and her companions.
Gern’s eyes narrowed. She had no intention of wasting words on this individual.
The aura of a Knight abruptly surged forth from her.
Lilia and Aivia, seeing this, also released their own powerful auras.
Instantly, the surrounding soldiers froze, daring not to move.
“Go summon your Princess, and she will clarify everything. Hurry now.”
“Impudent! That is Her Highness! How could an outsider like you expect an audience on demand?”
Just as Gern began to feel a touch of vexation, some familiar faces suddenly emerged from the opposing ranks.
“What’s going on here?”
“Report, sir! These individuals claim to be friends of Her Highness.”
The Fox individual, hearing this, glanced toward Gern.
Upon recognizing Gern, he immediately let out a sigh of relief.
“Alright, alright, everyone disperse. This person is indeed a friend of Her Highness. Go quickly and report to the Princess.”
“Yes, sir…”
The guard captain departed, and Gern cupped her hands in a respectful gesture to the one who had come to their aid.
“Thank you.”
“Ah, it’s fine, it’s fine. I’ll get back to my duties now.”
With that, the man left, showing no concern that the surrounding, watchful soldiers might act against Gern.
Gern recalled that this individual had previously witnessed scenes of Mina and Gern together, and thus naturally understood their relationship.
Gern, however, had no particular impression of the man herself, as there had been quite a crowd present at the time.
As they waited, the atmosphere remained somewhat stagnant. Even with someone vouching for Gern, the surrounding Fox soldiers’ vigilance had not lessened.
Growing a little bored of waiting, Lilia quietly drew closer to Gern and whispered in a voice only they could hear.
“Xiao Luoya, your outfit… it’s quite unique.”
Her gaze inadvertently swept over Gern’s tall, slender figure and sharp, defined profile.
A faint blush unexpectedly crept onto Lilia’s earlobes.
Gern awkwardly touched her nose, just about to speak.
Suddenly, a flurry of hurried footsteps echoed from within the camp.
Soon, the guard captain who had gone to report returned. Whether from his haste or some other reason, his forehead was slick with cold sweat.
“Sir, I was presumptuous just now. Please, come in quickly; I will lead the way.”
“Very well, thank you for your trouble.”
Gern nodded, her face betraying no emotion.
This only heightened the guard captain’s apprehension, and he asked in a trembling whisper.
“May I ask, what is your relationship with Her Highness?”
Hearing the question, the two women behind Gern also poked their heads out, eager to hear the answer.
At this, Gern’s expression instantly darkened. It wasn’t that she had some illicit relationship with Mina.
Rather, Lilia was standing right behind her.
Lilia’s character was consistently yandere, and while it hadn’t fully manifested yet, that didn’t mean she wouldn’t overthink things.
“Miss Mina and I are merely classmates.”
“Oh, I see, so that’s it.”
The guard captain wiped the cold sweat from his brow, secretly breathing a sigh of relief.
‘So, just classmates,’ he thought, but immediately a new question arose: what kind of classmates would make the Princess almost explode with anger at the slightest mention of… something, almost on the verge of losing control?
This was definitely not an ordinary classmate relationship.
Suddenly, a bold yet seemingly logical idea surfaced in his mind.
‘Could Her Highness and this person be… a couple?’
The moment this possibility occurred to him, the guard captain’s demeanor toward Gern grew even more deferential.
“Prince Consort… no, I mean, Sir Gern, Her Highness is waiting for you ahead. Please, go quickly.”
Gern’s lips twitched. She had no idea what absurd notions were running through this man’s mind.
Ignoring the man, she continued walking forward.
Mina followed close behind Gern, while Lilia, also trailing, deliberately glanced back at the guard captain.
This made him shiver, and he dared not meet Lilia’s gaze again.
After they had all vanished from his sight, the guard captain finally let out a slow breath of relief.
At the same time, a new question arose within him.
‘What about the others behind that young man… what’s their relationship with him? Hiss! Could it be!’
The guard captain seemed to conjure up some incredible scenario in his mind, freezing in place.
He silently gave Gern a thumbs-up.
‘A true role model for our generation!’ he thought. ‘If I ever get the chance, I truly want to ask Gern for tips on how to pick up women.’
Gern, walking at the forefront, was completely unaware that she had been deemed a mentor-like figure.
If she knew, she would likely only let out a wry chuckle.
‘Want many girls around you? It’s simple: just turn yourself into a girl. Then, even if you don’t want to be surrounded by women, you’ll have no choice.’
At that moment, Mina, clad in silver-white light armor and wielding a longsword, approached swiftly, surrounded by her escorts.
When she saw Gern, a clear spark of joy flickered in her eyes.
However, mindful of her public image, she quickly regained her composure.
“Sir Gern, you’ve returned! What is the situation?”
Mina’s tone was eager, for Gern was someone in whom she placed great hopes.
This was the primary reason Mina now held Gern in such high regard; clearly, she was impatient to see the results of Gern’s recent endeavors.
Gern smiled, producing several maps from her storage ring.
“These are the defense maps for several major Serpentman cities, along with their current internal situation.”
Gern handed the papers to Mina. These were all pieces of intelligence she had intentionally or unintentionally uncovered within the family while disguised as Quande.
Upon seeing this intelligence, Mina’s eyes widened instantly.
The documents detailed everything: the Serpentmen’s current equipment, supplies, provisions, personnel deployment, troop positions, city maps, and internal layouts.
It was as if the Serpentmen’s very undergarments had been stripped bare.
Possessing such comprehensive intelligence, how could Mina not be ecstatic?
“All of this? Where did you acquire it?”
Gern offered a mysterious smile, choosing not to reveal her methods to Mina.
“Your Highness need not dwell on these details. A humble person like me has their own clever stratagems.”
“Alright, then. Here, take these.”
With that, Mina tossed two perlite stones into Gern’s hand.
Gern’s expression momentarily froze. She looked at the two exquisite stones in her hand with a hint of confusion and inquired.
“Your Highness, didn’t you say there was only one?”
“You’ve exceeded expectations in your mission, so consider this your reward.”
Mina shrugged indifferently. These items weren’t particularly precious to the Fox race.
Gern’s eyes immediately sparkled like little stars. Without any pretense of politeness with Mina, she directly stowed the two perlite stones into her storage ring.
“As the saying goes, ‘Money in your own purse is truly yours.'”
“Alright, Your Highness, now we should discuss serious matters. What is the deal with the Chaos power ahead?”
Hearing this, Mina’s expression instantly turned solemn.
