Join the Server“Captain, do you have a light?”
The team member, whose body had already begun to succumb to Chaos, whispered the question.
Rex’s expression froze, his gaze complex as he looked at the fallen teammate.
“I do…”
He replied softly, then produced a Flame Scroll.
The team member retrieved a cigarette, wrapped in yellow paper, from their ring. They lit it, took a deep drag, and then exhaled a perfect smoke ring.
However, before the smoke ring could drift far, it was corrupted by Chaos power, dissolving into nothingness.
He let out a soft chuckle, then placed his storage ring into Rex’s hand.
“Captain, I still have some supplies here. No more bullets, but there are a few Holy Light scrolls left.”
“Captain, I won’t be able to accompany you any further.”
Rex stared at his teammate, wanting to speak, yet his throat felt constricted, rendering him speechless.
“Captain, don’t weep. The Divine King will remember our sacrifices.”
Just then, the man offered a desolate smile. Using the still-burning cigarette, he ignited the fuse at his waist, then roared as he charged towards the densest cluster of monsters.
“For Olga! For the Divine King!”
Boom!
The violent explosion temporarily cleared a small area, but it also drew the attention of even more monsters.
Rex’s eyes were bloodshot with fury, yet his rationality had not completely abandoned him. He tossed aside his last magazine and affixed a luminous, Holy Light-infused blade to his dark rifle.
Before the monsters could fully react, he surged forward, advancing over ten meters towards the secret realm’s entrance.
However, the sheer number of these creatures was overwhelming. They could be transformations of any life form, and with just him and a bayonet, how could he possibly break through their ranks?
He recklessly expended his Tier 2 warrior’s strength, but his aura attacks were corrupted by Chaos before they could even travel a short distance.
Under normal circumstances, Rex wouldn’t have feared these monsters in the slightest. Yet now, despite possessing considerable strength, he found himself unable to unleash its full potential.
Just as he prepared to emulate his fallen teammate, readying himself for a final charge, a phantom-like figure sliced into the battlefield with astonishing speed!
Streaks of aura, shrouded in dark energy, swept through like a bulldozer. Wherever the sword energy passed, Chaos creatures toppled one after another.
Rex watched his surroundings in shock. The recent strike had broken his encirclement, but it also plunged his spirits into despair.
This was because the aura he had just sensed was eerily familiar.
‘The Heretic God Cult!’
Rex secretly tightened his grip on the rifle stock. The cultivation methods of the Heretic God Cult thrived in places like the Chaos Land, completely unaffected by Chaos power.
Even though the previous attack was only at an upper-middle Tier 3 level, it still posed an immense threat to Rex.
Gern, having rushed over from afar, had no time for such thoughts. Like a leopard in the shadows, she pushed her Netherworld Steps to the absolute limit.
She wasn’t using her heavy sniper rifle. Previously, she had merely wanted to test the effects of Holy Light bullets. Now that she knew their efficacy, there was no need to waste any more ammunition.
Such items were incredibly expensive. Moreover, she only had four Holy Light bullets remaining, and Gern certainly didn’t want to fight her way into bankruptcy.
Thus, she only used the treasured sword Lilia had given her. However, this sword was not forged to adapt to Chaos power, making it somewhat unwieldy for Gern to use at present.
A monster lunged at Rex’s flank, roaring. Just as it was about to seize Rex’s neck, a wet *thud* echoed.
The monster’s head shattered like a watermelon, and its massive body crashed to the ground, black energy spewing forth.
There was no gratitude in Rex’s eyes. Such a close-range strike had unequivocally confirmed that his rescuer was nothing more than a lackey of the Heretic God Cult.
The Heretic God Cult and the Olga Kingdom had always been at odds, harboring a deep-seated, bloody feud between them.
Rex was certainly not foolish enough to believe the Heretic God Cult was rescuing him out of sudden benevolence.
However, when the dark energy before him completely dissipated, revealing the figure standing beyond it, the expression on his face momentarily froze.
“It’s you?”
“It *is* you!”
Their voices overlapped in unison. Gern frowned, then, sensing a gust of wind from behind, spun around and plunged her sword into the monster’s head.
“Go!”
Gern barked, grabbing Rex, who was unsteady on his feet from exhaustion.
He had never expected to encounter Gern here, much less that she would possess an identity linked to the Heretic God Cult.
Yet, based on their brief interactions before, Gern absolutely could not be a member of the Heretic God Cult.
Rex hesitated. Gern, seeing the increasing swarm of Chaos creatures around them, grew anxious.
“Hurry! We’ll be too late if we don’t move now!”
Gern’s tone was urgent. The sheer number of Chaos creatures here was overwhelming; she couldn’t possibly kill them all at once, as that would only lead to excessive exhaustion.
While she could replenish herself by absorbing Chaos power, doing so would inevitably imbalance the three energies within her body, risking an explosion from within.
“Alright!”
Rex finally stopped hesitating, choosing to trust Gern for the time being. Even if Gern intended to harm him later, he had bombs strapped to his body; he wouldn’t mind taking them both down with him.
Gern dragged him, fighting and retreating, attempting to break through the monster’s encirclement. But the surrounding creatures were too numerous, surging ceaselessly like a tide, constantly compressing their maneuvering space.
“Damn it!”
Gern’s brows furrowed deeply. The number of monsters here was simply too vast; she couldn’t possibly kill them all.
A sense of powerlessness quietly welled within Gern. She glanced back at Rex, gritted her teeth, and retrieved her heavy sniper rifle from her ring.
“Brother, you can use this for now. Just be sure to return it to me later; it’s quite expensive. I only have four Holy Light bullets left, so be economical.”
Rex’s mouth twitched. Even at a moment like this, she was still concerned about money.
‘Hmm… it seems this young Gern isn’t as generous as I imagined.’
Rex shook his head with a smile, then took the heavy sniper rifle Gern offered. The moment his hands closed around the weapon, his expression tightened.
“This is… a weapon from Theoviga Academy?”
The feel, the craftsmanship—there was no mistake. This was indeed a heavy sniper rifle from Theoviga Academy.
Some of the doubt in Rex’s heart dissipated. Students of Theoviga Academy underwent rigorous screening.
It would be incredibly difficult for the Heretic God Cult to infiltrate it. However, this didn’t allow Rex to fully relax, as there was still a certain chance for cult members to slip through.
After checking the rifle’s condition, he raised it and fired.
With a *bang*, a Holy Light bullet pierced through the heads of several monsters, annihilating the creatures in an entire area.
Witnessing this, Rex couldn’t help but marvel. It truly was a weapon worthy of Theoviga Academy’s craftsmanship.
The heavy sniper rifle’s performance was slightly superior to those from the Olga Kingdom, and the bullet type it used was considerably better than the Olga Kingdom’s Holy Light bullets.
Yet, this did not make Rex optimistic. He now had only three bullets left, and these three were critically important, needing to be reserved for the most crucial moments.
