Join the ServerA dreadful realization struck her: he had seen them!
Lilia’s mood plummeted to rock bottom. The monster, with every movement, exuded a dangerous aura.
This creature was far beyond what their motley crew could ever hope to challenge.
The colossal figure, clad in iron armor and wielding a long spear, fixed its gaze upon their retreating squad.
“Olga… shall not be defiled!”
A suffocating, terrifying pressure bore down on them, as palpable as a physical force. The very air seemed to congeal around them.
Simply standing there, the creature radiated an insurmountable, unmatched sense of despair.
“Disperse! Find cover!”
Rex shrieked, his voice distorted by sheer terror.
Even the seasoned members of the expedition team, despite their professional training, faltered into disarray when confronted with such a sight.
At that very moment, the monster surged forward, charging directly at them.
There was no earth-shattering roar, no dazzling display of power.
Only a blurred, dark shadow streaked past.
With a deafening “boom,” the ground where they had just stood erupted, blasting open a crater several meters in diameter.
Shrapnel-like stones sprayed outwards, scattering like bullets.
So fast!
Its movements were utterly indiscernible!
“Peak Tier Six… It’s definitely Peak Tier Six!”
Gern’s brows furrowed deeply. This creature was unquestionably beyond their ability to defeat.
He glanced at Lilia, noting how their positions formed a pincer formation against the Great Knight before them.
As if by telepathy, Lilia also looked towards Gern.
“Lilia, we’ll hold this monster off for now. Rex, take everyone and run as far as you can!”
“Brother Gern…”
“Go now!”
Gern had no time to dither with Rex.
He dashed towards the monster with astonishing speed.
Behind him, Lilia swiftly channeled the power within her body, and a fiery red longsword materialized in her hand.
Behind Lilia, phantasmal phoenixes also began to manifest, signifying her readiness for a battle to the death.
“Lilia, we’ll hold him off for a moment.”
“Understood!”
Without further ado, Lilia unleashed a sword strike.
A fiery red sword qi, imbued with wind and fire, shot forth.
Even within the Chaos Land, Lilia could still leverage her wind and fire abilities to inflict damage from a distance.
Not to be outdone, Gern’s longsword instantly became wreathed in crimson light.
A bloody sword qi, mirroring Lilia’s attack, likewise cleaved towards the monster.
Clang~
Both sword qi attacks struck his armor, yet failed to cause even a ripple.
This sight plunged both their spirits into utter despair.
“Intruders… shall be slain!”
As his words faded, the long spear in his hand stirred.
He seemed to be demonstrating a unique technique for long-handled weapons.
Yet, as his movement concluded, a draconic phantom coalesced around the spear.
This draconic phantom was unlike any dragon Gern had ever witnessed; it was a bizarre, serpentine creature with four claws.
Before either of them could react, the long spear lunged violently towards Gern.
Faintly, Gern thought he heard a resounding dragon’s roar.
His instincts screamed for him to defend.
Clang~
Crack~
The disparity in their power was simply too vast; Gern’s defense proved utterly futile.
The longsword, raised to shield him, was pierced clean through.
The immense force shattered the entire blade into countless fragments.
A sickening thud—
Along with it, Gern’s arm was utterly mangled by the overwhelming power.
His entire right arm, which had held the sword, hung limply.
The searing pain had yet to reach Gern’s brain, his every ounce of focus consumed by the spear before him.
He felt an unsettling familiarity, as if he had seen this long spear somewhere before.
There was no time for further contemplation.
Gern was impaled clean through by the spear, and an immense force surged from the shaft, coursing through every part of his body.
It felt as though he was being torn apart from the inside.
Gern’s pupils dilated, his vision blurring.
Witnessing this horrific scene, Lilia’s eyes immediately widened.
In their depths, terror, despair, and a hint of fierce determination swirled.
“Die!”
Blazing flames erupted from her, as if intending to banish the entire dark world.
Yet, her minuscule fire, compared to the colossal figure before her, was no more than a mayfly’s flicker.
The wind and fire battered the Knight’s form, burning fiercely, yet inflicted no discernible damage.
The Knight slowly turned its head, fixing its gaze on Lilia.
The crimson glow in its eyes intensified.
“Intruder!”
He wrenched the spear from Gern’s chest.
A faint, chilling glint emanated from the blood-stained spearhead.
Lilia felt an immense pressure bear down upon her.
She looked at Gern, sprawled on the ground, utterly speechless, and tears streamed uncontrollably from her eyes.
“I’ll fight you to the death! Die! Die! Die!”
“Ah!”
Lilia’s eyes were bloodshot, the flames around her pushed to their absolute limit.
The longsword in her hand had been swung countless times, a blur of motion.
Yet, her desperate attacks were nothing more than a tickle to the monstrous Knight.
Whoosh~
The whistling spear-wind plunged towards Lilia’s face.
Lilia knew she wouldn’t survive this. She turned her head towards Gern.
At that critical moment, countless gunshots echoed from the distance.
Holy Light bullets rained down upon the Great Knight as if they were limitless.
Rex and his team, who had been preparing to retreat, were now providing support from afar.
The Great Knight’s assault ceased, its movements disrupted by the Holy Light.
Seizing this precious opportunity, Lilia finally broke free, swiftly flashing to Gern’s side.
Seeing Gern’s eyes still open, even now, her own eyes immediately welled up with tears.
“Gern, let’s go!”
Lilia hoisted Gern’s body onto her back and retreated.
Though Gern had previously resurrected once, Lilia couldn’t be entirely certain he wouldn’t die permanently this time.
Such a secret art of resurrection could never come without a price.
Perhaps it could only be used once in a lifetime, or perhaps it demanded the sacrifice of something profoundly important.
This could be a memory, or even a part of one’s body.
However, the second type of secret art could typically only be employed twice.
She had hoped Gern possessed the second type of secret art.
Yet, Gern had lost nothing during his previous resurrection, leading her to suspect he possessed the first type.
At this thought, Lilia’s spirits plummeted once more.
Tears welled up, blurring her vision.
“Miss Lilia! Get out of the way, he’s coming!”
Rex’s frantic shout suddenly echoed from the distance.
Lilia instinctively glanced back.
The Great Knight was charging directly at her, already perilously close.
In just another second, it would seize Gern from her back.
The power of a Tier Six Knight remained far too immense.
Throughout the continent, cultivation realms underwent a qualitative leap every three tiers, making Tier Six the highest combat power common people could hope to encounter at this stage.
A profound sense of despair welled up in Lilia’s heart.
Never in her life had she experienced such an utterly hopeless moment.
‘Perhaps, dying alongside Gern wouldn’t be so bad after all.’
Lilia thought, a strange calm settling over her.
