Chapter 158: Lilia’s New Body, Aivia’s Predicament

“Hmm, so this is a boy’s body?”

Lilia moved, a little unaccustomed, and then paused, startled, as she sensed the mixed powers within Gern.

She was aware of Gern’s physical condition, but she had never imagined that the powers within him would be so profoundly intertwined.

There was the power of the Dragon God, the power of the Divine King, and various Kindling along with Chaos power.

She slowly drew in a sharp breath, feeling a pang of sympathy for all that Gern had endured.

“Gern, your body…”

Gern offered an embarrassed smile. It felt rather awkward, watching her own body converse with her.

“Lilia, perhaps we should switch back. I feel a bit strange like this.”

“Hmph, no way.” Lilia pouted, turning her head with a delicate air. Paired with Gern’s naturally refined face, even Gern herself felt a moment of bewilderment.

‘Hiss, did I really look so much like a girl? No… that’s not right. It must be the Kindling playing tricks.’

Gern secretly refuted the thought. In her previous life, she had truly paid no mind to her appearance, having been controlled by the Heretic God Cult.

She couldn’t even manage a single full meal each day, which left her perpetually thin and small.

Furthermore, toiling for the Heretic God Cult had transformed her into a ghastly shadow of herself.

This life, however, was entirely different. The Academy provided her food and resources, and her cultivation was bolstered by Lilia’s insights, complementing her own past experiences.

Simply put, Gern’s situation in this life was infinitely better than her previous one.

Moreover, she lived frugally in her daily life, so she had never once worried about expenses in this lifetime.

From this perspective, the person she was now, in this form, was her true self.

Gern sighed inwardly, covering her smooth forehead with a hint of resignation.

Her emotions were rather complex.

“Hmm, what’s wrong, Gern?”

“Cough, nothing. It’s just that… I still think I’m quite handsome, yes.”

Lilia chuckled softly at Gern’s reply, already well aware of the true thoughts hidden deep within Gern’s heart.

The soul contract had bound their souls together; no thought between them could escape the other’s perception.

Lilia gazed at Gern, who now wore her own form. Just as she was about to lean against Gern, a commotion suddenly erupted from below the city wall.

Both of them frowned, simultaneously looking down to see two figures approaching.

“Sister Gern!”

Xiao Ying excitedly waved her hands, eager to rush up the city wall, but Aivia, standing beside her, gently pulled her back.

Xiao Ying looked up at Aivia’s blood-red eyes, a tearful pout forming on her face.

“Don’t rush, you’ll fall.”

Aivia gently patted Xiao Ying’s shoulder, then scooped her up. Carrying Xiao Ying in her arms, Aivia ascended to the top of the city wall.

The moment Xiao Ying saw Gern, she lunged forward, tears streaming uncontrollably from her eyes.

“Wuwu, Sister Gern, I thought you’d never come back.”

The little girl cried and wailed, completely oblivious to the fascinating expression on Lilia’s face beside her.

Aivia also cast a glance in her direction, her eyes gleaming with clear intent.

“You’ve been with him for so long; it’s my turn now.”

Gern’s mouth twitched. She looked at Aivia with a hint of pity, noticing the subtle trace of… something on her face.

After all, it was Lilia who currently occupied her body.

These two had always been at odds. Aivia had lost to Lilia numerous times before, and now, with her own body involved, Gern almost dreaded to imagine Aivia’s impending reaction.

‘You… what do you mean? What are you laughing at?’

‘Hmm? Oh, cough, I… I wasn’t laughing.’

Gern quickly composed her expression, spouting nonsense with a solemn face, though she was secretly overjoyed.

Aivia looked at Gern with a puzzled expression, then turned to Lilia, sensing that something was amiss.

‘Hmm… never mind. I’ll ignore it.’

She rubbed her stomach. It had been too many days since she last drank Gern’s blood, and she was practically ravenous.

Before making her move, she cast a wary glance at Gern. Finding no reaction, she slowly approached Lilia.

“Mr. Gern, you’ve worked hard.”

Aivia, with a show of politeness, presented Lilia with an item. It was a recovery medicine, designed to boost vitality and regulate internal power, which would be quite beneficial for Gern at her current stage.

It seemed Aivia had come with genuine sincerity this time. However, since Lilia was currently occupying Gern’s body, she naturally wouldn’t give Aivia a pleasant reception.

Lilia merely cast a cold glance upward at Aivia, then abruptly slapped the medicine out of her hand. It clattered onto the dusty city wall.

Aivia’s expression froze for a moment. She looked at Lilia, utterly bewildered.

“Mr. Gern, what is the meaning of this?”

“Heh, what do I mean? Don’t you already know what I mean?”

Lilia glared at Aivia, and a faint scent of gunpowder seemed to fill the air. Even Xiao Ying, nestled in Lilia’s embrace, sensed the tension and looked up at the two of them.

“Um… Sister Gern, Sister Aivia, what’s wrong with you two?”

“It’s nothing, Xiao Ying, be a good girl. This is an adult matter; children shouldn’t interfere.”

Lilia gently stroked Xiao Ying’s head, appearing every bit the kind older sister from next door.

Xiao Ying gazed at her, her eyes widening progressively, her happiness visibly blossoming.

She felt that Sister Gern was becoming more and more like a true elder sister, and a complex, ineffable emotion gradually stirred within her heart.

Lilia, of course, was unaware of these subtle feelings. She simply found the child before her to be profoundly pitiable.

She knew the circumstances of Gern’s entry into the beastman tribe, and naturally, she also knew Xiao Ying’s predicament at the time, along with her background.

Indeed, Xiao Ying shared many similarities with Gern, which was why Lilia felt a surge of concern for her.

Aivia, however, was left utterly bewildered by this version of “Gern.” She glanced at the medicine, now covered in dust on the ground, and a small sense of grievance welled within her.

This was a rather precious medicine among their Blood race, typically given to blood slaves to enhance their vitality and physique.

If a normal person were to use it long-term, their vitality and strength would surpass ordinary human limits.

It even offered the chance for that individual to awaken as a knight. Of course, how far they could advance after awakening depended entirely on their innate talent.

This clearly demonstrated the medicine’s immense value. Now that “Gern” had simply knocked it over, Aivia felt a genuine pang of distress.

If Lilia had been the one to knock it over, she might have accepted it, but this was *Gern*.

The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt, and the more she felt she had suffered a loss. Suddenly, a fierce glint appeared in Aivia’s eyes.

‘Since Gern isn’t appreciative, then she shouldn’t blame me for taking more.’

Slowly, she bared her two small fangs and lunged towards Lilia.
