Join the ServerThe spacious study was utterly silent, save for the faint melody of the young woman’s humming.
At the center of the long table in the study, a delicate and lovely Lilia sat, engrossed in the contents of a book. Her fair, slender legs dangled naturally, occasionally swaying with a gentle rhythm.
The large, heavy tome accentuated the exquisite smallness of her hands.
On its cover, ancient script proclaimed, “Classical Magic: A Comprehensive Introduction.”
“Mmm-hmm-hmm~ Mmm-hmm-hmm~”
Lilia continued to hum, her body swaying rhythmically with the tune. Her golden hair danced with her movements, her consciousness completely absorbed by the words on the page.

Above a sky thick with dark clouds, a flash of lightning tore through the deathly quiet expanse, followed by a thunderous roar. Outside, a torrential rain began to fall.
She slowly lifted her head, her mind detaching from the book, and gazed out. A mix of excitement and apprehension stirred within her.
Rain always brought with it a strange sense of peace. She couldn’t recall when this feeling had started, perhaps around the time her mother forbade her from playing with the other children outside.
She yearned to go out, to walk freely in the pouring rain. Yet, her parents’ scolding words played out vividly in her mind.
Huff~
Just as she hesitated, a dark shadow flashed past. It moved with such speed that she couldn’t discern its form, like a mere gust of wind.
She rubbed her eyes, peering outside intently, but found nothing. ‘Was it… a trick of the light?’
No one would answer her question, until a sharp shriek echoed from not far away.
“Ah!”
“Aaaah!”
The piercing screams shook her young heart. The cries were desperate and abrupt, as if a throat had been seized, then abruptly silenced.
‘What happened?’
The young Lilia trembled with fright, pressing her hands tightly over her mouth. A colossal fear gripped her heart, making it almost impossible to breathe.
Were those bandits outside? Or… something far more terrifying?
She curled up in the shadows beneath the desk, her sapphire-like eyes fixed intently on the study’s heavy wooden door through a narrow gap near the leg.
The sound of rain drumming against the window muffled many subtle noises, yet it also made the abrupt sounds outside seem all the more clear and horrifying.
Time seemed to freeze. Every second stretched out like an eternity.
After what felt like an age, the sounds of commotion outside gradually subsided, leaving only the persistent patter of rain.
Just as she momentarily relaxed, believing the danger had passed, a soft creak filled the air.
Screeeak—
The study door slowly swung open. A long, distorted shadow stretched ahead, cast upon the floor.
Her heart pounded against her ribs. She instinctively held her breath, shrinking even further into herself. Her sapphire-like eyes peered through the gap, locked onto the doorway.
The first thing to enter her vision was a pair of muddy noble boots. The normally light brown mud was now stained with a stark, vivid crimson.
Next came a torn, opulent skirt, already soaked with blood. Her pupils constricted abruptly; she recognized the style and fabric of that skirt!
It was… the very one her Queen mother had worn that morning! She snapped her head up, her gaze traveling upwards.
Standing in the doorway was indeed her Queen mother. But… this was not the mother she knew.
The Queen’s usually meticulously styled golden hair was disheveled and matted with blood. Her magnificent gown was ripped in several places, and her exposed skin was covered in strange black markings that writhed slowly, as if alive.
Most chilling of all were her eyes, no longer holding the tenderness and affection Lilia remembered. Now, the Queen’s eyes were hollow and lifeless, with greyish pupils that flickered with a crimson, bloodthirsty glint.
Bloody remnants clung to the corners of her mouth, her face devoid of expression, like a puppet controlled by unseen strings. She stood there silently in the doorway, her head tilted, as if sensing something.
Lilia recognized the black markings on her Queen mother’s body; they were… the marks of Chaos corrosion! The impact of this realization was far more terrifying than mere death.
This was her Queen mother, the one who loved her most, how could she have transformed into such a state? The Queen’s gaze slowly swept across the study, finally seeming to settle on the direction of the desk.
That hollow, icy stare felt as though it pierced through the thick solid wood of the desk, landing directly on Lilia.
‘I’ve been found!’
The extreme terror nearly forced a scream from her, but she bit down hard on her lip, tasting the salty tang of blood. The Queen took a step, her movements stiff, yet imbued with an oppressive weight, advancing towards the desk one step at a time.
The sound of her boots on the floor, mingled with the patter of rain outside, was like a death knell, pounding in Lilia’s heart. ‘Magic! That’s right, magic!’
In this dire moment of crisis, she recalled knowledge she had once read in a book. Just as that corrupted hand was about to touch the edge of the desk—
“Fire Magic!”
Boom!
With a sharp detonation, scorching flames erupted from beneath the desk, like an awakened fire serpent, instantly coiling around the Queen’s body. Crackle!
The flames roared, and a faint smell of scorching, mixed with the scent of roasted meat, drifted down from above. The Queen, corrupted by Chaos, remained motionless, standing rigidly as if impervious to the inferno.
Her head slowly lowered, her crimson eyes locking onto the space beneath the table, reflecting a pale, small face. The hope in Lilia’s eyes was instantly drowned by an even greater fear. The fire magic she had just unleashed had drained her of all strength.
Now, she could only watch helplessly as that twisted claw advanced. ‘Am I going to die?’
She closed her eyes in despair, countless thoughts swirling through her mind. Moments passed, yet no pain came. Just then, a voice she knew intimately echoed in her ears.
“Little Lilia, do you still miss your brother?”
She snapped her eyes open, looking at the young man standing before her. His appearance bore a striking seven or eight parts resemblance to hers; he was tall and upright, once her idol.
But the person before her now was wreathed in dark energy, no longer the young man he once was. “Bro… brother?”
She spoke tentatively, yet she dreaded hearing the true answer. She wished all of this before her was merely a dream. “That’s right, it’s me, my dear sister.”
The dream shattered. She looked at the once gentle and refined young man, and tears fell uncontrollably.
“Why, brother?”
“My dear sister, come with your brother. Join the great Holy Cult. With your talent, you will surely become a Grand Archbishop of our Chaos Divine Cult in the future.”
The young man smiled, glancing at the Queen still being consumed by the fierce flames nearby. His fondness for his sister intensified. “No… I won’t go, I won’t go!”
She recoiled, her body trembling slightly. Fear and helplessness enveloped her, leaving her with not a glimmer of hope for life.
