Chapter 98: A Proposal Beneath the Blood Moon

After Anna had closed Eve’s coffin, Yulim’s faint voice finally drifted from her body.

“Sister Anna… could you… put me down now…?”

The hood-wearing girl covered her flushed face.

Since earlier, Anna had been holding her by the waist, cradled under her arm. If her cloak hadn’t been so voluminous, concealing the dress she wore beneath, she would have been completely exposed.

The position was truly mortifying.

Initially, Yulim understood; the situation had been urgent.

Later, when Anna hadn’t put her down out of concern for Luosha, Yulim still understood.

Yet now, even as they were about to depart, and Anna was preparing to carry the coffin, there was still no indication that she intended to release her.

She recalled the last time she’d seen someone held in such a manner: it was a memory from her childhood, of an older boy from next door who had led his friends in hiding their homework, only to be discovered by an adult.

The adult had carried the older boy exactly like this, scolding him and swatting his backside all the way.

The boy’s pig-like squeals of agony remained vivid in her memory even now.

This made Yulim feel as though Sister Anna was treating her like a child who had misbehaved.

But surely she hadn’t done anything wrong?

‘No, I don’t think so…’ she thought, a flicker of guilt stirring within her.

In the end, Yulim couldn’t help but speak up, hoping Anna would finally set her down.

Anna lowered her head, her sapphire eyes glancing at Yulim, then looked up again. She hoisted the coffin onto her back and declared with icy indifference, “No.”

Then, her body sinking slightly, her legs transformed into blades. With a single surge of power,

*Boom!*

They shot upwards instantly, soaring into the sky, transforming into a streak of blue starlight against the night.

Yulim could only shield herself from the onslaught of violent wind with her hands.

The ground receded further and further until they pierced the cloud layer, and the howling gale finally subsided somewhat.

However, Yulim’s hood had been torn back by the wind, revealing her magnificent silver hair.

Anna’s voice rang out beside her ear.

“I won’t let go, I won’t.”

“I don’t want to let go of Yulim.”

Though she was shouting, her voice remained utterly frigid, devoid of warmth or discernible emotion.

Yulim felt her horizontal embrace shift; she was now held tightly in a proper hug.

It was Anna.

“Sister Anna…”

Yulim felt a surge of bewilderment; in her memory, Anna had never acted like this before.

The blue-haired girl holding her trembled, then loosened her embrace.

They hovered above the clouds, beneath the blood-red moon.

In the moonlight, Yulim saw two crystalline trails of ice etched onto Anna’s pale cheeks, imbuing her otherwise expressionless face with an even more piercing chill.

“Yulim is a very important person.”

“I don’t want to let go, and I don’t dare to.”

“I don’t know if, this time, if I let go, Yulim will disappear again…”

The hooded girl’s eyes widened abruptly.

Before her eyes, the ice and snow gradually melted, and the streams of blue magic swirling around Anna dissipated completely.

An endless torrent of scalding tears streamed down the blue-haired girl’s cheeks.

“So… Yulim, in the future, could you please not leave my side without saying anything again…?”

“I was truly so, so worried about you…”

Like Eve, Yulim was seeing Anna cry for the very first time.

With no enemies left, Anna had finally allowed herself to completely break down.

So utterly distraught, so incredibly vulnerable.

Her pitiful state twisted Yulim’s heart with anguish.

It was hard to imagine that, usually, she was such a cheerful girl.

This sight made Yulim’s heart clench painfully, a wave of distress and remorse washing over her.

‘Indeed, I truly was a naughty child who did something foolish…’

“Sister Anna… I’m sorry…”

“I won’t leave without telling you again…”

She actively embraced Anna, pleading for her forgiveness.

“You really won’t leave me…?”

“I’ll never leave again…”

“I want to be with Yulim forever…”

“I want to be with Sister Anna forever too…”

Buried in Anna’s embrace, Yulim felt their bodies gradually warm, and heard the increasingly clear, rapid beat of the other’s heart.

‘Oh, how I wish… time could stop forever at this moment…’

“Then… Yulim, let’s get married…”

“Mhm…”

“Huh?!!!”

Lost in the tender embrace, Yulim had subconsciously assented, but then immediately realized that her Sister Anna seemed to have uttered something utterly astounding.

Her eyes widened once more, and she looked up at Anna in disbelief.

“Si-Si-Si-Sister Anna… what did you just say?!”

Anna didn’t immediately reply. Instead, she shifted Yulim to her side, wrapping an arm around her, and with her free hand, retrieved a small gift box from a pouch on her thigh strap.

The gift box was crumpled, and its ribbon, tied in a clumsy, haphazard bow that looked ready to unravel at any moment, clearly hadn’t been done by a professional.

Yet, when Anna bit the end of the ribbon to pull it open and then peeled back the wrapping with her fingers, a pair of magnificent silver wedding rings were revealed.

The moment these wedding rings appeared before Yulim, the socially anxious girl’s brain instantly crashed.

“Let’s get married, Yulim!”

“That way, we can be together forever!”

Anna repeated her earlier words, her tone now unwavering and intensely serious. “I know you’ve prepared a mysterious gift, Yulim, so I just want to give this to you as a return gift. Even if you can’t accept getting married, please, at least accept this return gift!”

Her voice finally pulled the ‘overheating’ socially anxious girl back to reality.

Yulim gaped blankly, but several attempts to speak yielded no words. Her small face was so flushed it looked as though blood might drip from it.

The blue-haired girl’s earnest face and the glittering wedding rings made her dizzy.

Since childhood, Yulim had often fantasized.

She had wondered when, where, and with whom she would one day receive a marriage proposal.

She had imagined countless possibilities.

Yet, she had never once considered that the person would be the blue-haired girl standing before her.

‘Is this a dream?’ the girl wondered to herself.

‘But… if it’s Sister Anna…’

“Mhm… I do…”

Yulim nodded, her shy voice so soft that Anna, standing beside her, had to lean in close to barely catch her assent.

With that closeness, the distance between them became incredibly intimate; they could feel each other’s warm breaths.

Anna gazed at the bashful Yulim, her heart inexplicably skipping a beat.

By some strange twist of fate, she couldn’t resist slowly leaning her face closer.

Until something soft and warm pressed against something else.

Yulim’s eyes widened, but she only fell into a brief moment of shock.

Gazing at Anna, so close before her, the tear streaks on the girl’s face were still clearly visible.

She didn’t resist or struggle; instead, she closed her eyes peacefully, sharing the moment with the other girl.

The blood-red moonlight draped over them like a crimson canopy.

They embraced tightly once more, falling from the clouds.

As if plunging into the legendary, mystical river of love.

Volume One, End.
