Join the ServerIn this world, Fionn Cassius believed there was only one type of person she could trust unconditionally: a priest.
A priest, by definition, was someone recognized by the Goddess of Light. Their character was beyond reproach, each one benevolent and kind.
While demonic beasts would not harm her, Fionn desired no such privilege.
She had no desire to be a Demon Lord; associating with demonic beasts only made her feel like one herself.
Now, she could successfully control her powers, having gained abilities potent enough to reshape the world.
Her only wish was to return what had fallen, then leave the human towns, find a quiet field, and live out her days like any ordinary person.
Though her plans had veered slightly from her imagination, leaving her burdened with a hefty debt of 20 silver coins, she knew that with hard work, it could be repaid. After compensating the owner for their losses, she could still pursue her heartfelt desire.
Therefore, if Luosha hadn’t just displayed the power of holy light, Fionn would have truly considered her a demonic beast, promptly refused her, and then swiftly distanced herself.
But now, things were different!
Luosha was a priest!
That explained everything!
Only a benevolent priest would be willing to offer such assistance.
‘Motives? Conspiracies?’
‘How could anyone slander such a virtuous person as Luosha!’
‘It was utter defamation, a desecration of the sacred priestly profession!’
As for why the Seed of Misfortune had no effect on Luosha… Fionn felt she had finally found the glimmer of hope she had been searching for.
That single ray of dawn capable of breaking the curse upon her!
Just like before, Luosha was the only one in the vast crowd who had actively waved and greeted her. And now, she was the only one immune to the misfortune that clung to Fionn.
Luosha was truly an extraordinary being!
Perhaps by simply following her, Fionn could find salvation, alter her destiny, and finally become a truly ordinary person!
At the thought of regaining a normal life, Fionn trembled uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face. Overcome with emotion, she directly threw herself into Eve’s arms.
“I’ve always believed in destiny! I want to be your friend, and I’m willing to follow you!”
“No… please, you must let me follow you!”
“Whatever you need me to do!”
“I’ll do it!”
The silver-haired girl’s sudden, direct embrace was entirely unexpected for Eve.
Not only Eve, but Kamil and Yulim Wilivia, who had been chatting idly, were also drawn by the commotion they caused, casting curious glances their way.
Seeing her newly-recognized little cousin turn and embrace someone else, declaring ‘I’ll do anything,’ Kamil, who had been gossiping about Yulim and the others, suddenly felt as if something precious had been stolen. A heartbroken sound, though only imagined, rang deafeningly in her ears.
‘Kamil wanted them to be friends, yes, but wasn’t their progress a little *too* fast?!’
Feeling Kamil’s and Yulim’s gazes fixed upon them, Eve realized that if this continued, her secret loan to Fionn would soon be exposed.
She quickly patted the silver-haired girl’s soft, smooth back, whispering a reminder: “Fionn… people are watching. That’s enough for now; I’ve seen your determination.”
“Besides, I imagine you don’t want Kamil to know about your debt, do you? If that’s the case, act a little more normal. We shouldn’t let others know about our arrangement.”
Only then did Fionn lift her head, realizing her actions had been quite improper. She hastily wiped away her tears, detached herself from Eve’s embrace, and nodded emphatically.
Yet, the girl quickly pressed on: “Then, can I follow you?”
The girl resembled a stray kitten, pitifully pleading to be taken in, her eyes filled with a heartbreaking mix of vulnerability and hope that stirred pity in onlookers.
Eve responded to that hope without hesitation: “Of course you can. You’ll follow me from now on. I promise you won’t go hungry three times a day like before. I’m a conscientious boss, after all.”
“Mhm!” Fionn squinted, smiling, and nodded.
Just as the situation seemed to be flourishing, Kamil emerged, fixing the two girls with a sour, probing gaze. “So,” she began, “what exactly have you two been whispering about since just now?”
Fionn turned to see Kamil incredibly close, and immediately waved her hands in a fluster. “N-nothing… Sister Kamil…”
Kamil still eyed Fionn suspiciously. “Really nothing? Then why did I just hear you babbling about wanting to follow Luosha or some such nonsense?”
“W-well… it’s because…”
Seeing Fionn on the verge of cracking under the pressure, Eve quickly stepped in to save the situation. “Oh, that? It’s because Fionn just told me she wants to become an adventurer, so she was asking me, a senior adventurer, about the requirements.”
“Right, Fionn?” Eve gave a subtle wink. Fionn immediately understood and nodded vigorously, confirming everything Luosha had said.
Fionn knew Luosha was finding a plausible reason for her to stay. If she became an adventurer, it wouldn’t be considered deceiving Kamil.
Kamil scrutinized the two girls.
Eve remained as steady as Mount Tai in the face of this scrutiny. After all, she hadn’t done anything wrong with Fionn; a straight body casts no crooked shadow.
Fionn, too, after her initial fluster, adopted a serious expression, as if she had truly resolved to become a new adventurer.
The expressions of both girls were flawless, and the excuse they offered was quite good. Too good.
Yet, Kamil couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something fishy going on between them, some secret they were keeping from her.
Still, it wouldn’t be right to pry further. After all, she and Fionn had only just met and didn’t truly know each other. Who could say if Fionn genuinely intended to become an adventurer?
This was the City of Adventurers, after all!
Kamil didn’t believe Fionn had simply traveled all the way to Xielan just to deliver a pendant and a few messages. Who would be so idle?
Thus, Kamil could understand if Fionn had some hidden agenda.
Ultimately, after much contemplation, Kamil sighed. She turned to Yulim Wilivia. “Yulim, you mentioned earlier that Luosha is your newly joined adventure partner, didn’t you?”
Yulim nodded at her words. “Mhm… yes… Sister Kamil…”
Hearing this, Kamil felt a sense of reassurance. She reached for a skewer of roasted meat, took a bite, and spoke indistinctly. “While I’m not entirely clear on your profession or strength, Luosha, if you’re with Anna and Yulim, then I’m quite comfortable entrusting Fionn to your care.”
“No offense intended, Luosha,” Kamil quickly added. “It’s just that many have witnessed Yulim and Anna’s strength, and since this is our first meeting, I naturally put more trust in them.”
Eve nodded, indicating her understanding.
However, Yulim Wilivia, overhearing this, couldn’t sit still. The terrifying scene of Luosha effortlessly wielding the coffin-shaped pendant flashed through her mind once more, and she immediately stepped forward to speak on Eve’s behalf.
“Sister Kamil… actually, Luosha is… very strong!”
