Chapter 121 : It’s Like They Just Spawned

“Tch, they’re persistent.”

Not long after she had run out of Stacy’s house, she had run into a lone knight in an alley. At first, she had kept her head down, trying to slip past him. But as they passed, the knight drew his sword.

“Stop. Inspection.”

“Inspection?”

If she took off her hood, she would be exposed. How could she agree to an inspection?

She glanced at the empty street. She closed her eyes and activated her God’s perspective. No other knights nearby. She opened her eyes.

“Just one. This is easy.”

A crackle of electricity from her fingertips. A scream. The knight fell backward, the sound of his armor hitting the ground muffled by the rain.

Milly quickly knelt down and tried to remove his armor. It was a better disguise than a cloak. She should have taken it when she first suspected Lillian was Stacy.

Just as she was about to put on the helmet, she heard the sound of hooves.

“Target spotted! Over there!”

Damn it. She had checked. There were no other knights. It was as if they had just spawned.

They were coming too fast.

She threw the helmet at them, followed by a bolt of lightning.

A scream cut through the rain. The lead knight and his horse fell into the water.

In the central square, when the leader was taken down, the others had hesitated.

But not now. They charged at her like mad dogs, their swords drawn.

Milly released the rest of her electricity. The nearest knights were thrown from their horses. She took the opportunity to spread her wings and fly.

Her wet wings were heavy, each flap sending a spray of water.

“Archers!”

Arrows whizzed past her, tearing holes in her cloak. She flew over several streets.

Her wings ached. She had to land.

She continued to run toward the city gate. She knew she was almost out of electricity, enough to deal with half a squad of knights.

The knights hadn’t caught up yet. She tried to summon Broken. If she could, she could take them all down.

Unsurprisingly, she failed. She couldn’t even summon the hilt.

When she was on the cross, she had felt the seal loosen a little. It seemed it was just that, loosened. Her powers were still sealed. The electricity was an exception, as it was stored in her body and released directly.

She didn’t know the principle, but it worked. She would just have to consider it a body trait.

Before she ran out of electricity, she had a new idea.

She would find the tallest tower in the city, climb it, and maybe the lightning would recharge her. As long as the old fool didn’t come himself, no one could stop her.

A good idea. But the sound of hooves came again.

“They’re persistent.”

Unless a bolt of lightning struck her right now, she couldn’t deal with so many knights. She had to use her wings to create some distance.

The rain dripped from her wings, making it harder to fly. The sound of her wings flapping was heavy in the rain.

Arrows whizzed past her, but none hit her.

Their aim was terrible.

She pushed herself to fly faster, and after several streets, she was forced to land. She should have shaken them off by now.

She couldn’t fly anymore. There was a small alley nearby. It was still light, but it was raining heavily. Besides the citizens who had come out to watch the show, most people were at home. The streets were empty except for the knights searching for her. It was a good place to hide.

She hid in the alley, pressing herself against the wall. She was lucky. There was an overhang to protect her from the rain.

The cold wind whipped past her, her wet clothes clinging to her. A shiver ran through her.

Her body temperature was dropping. This wasn’t good. The last time she escaped, it had been raining. This time, too. It was as if the weather was against her. If she didn’t find a place to shelter, she would catch a fever. And if the knights found her, she would have no strength to run.

Before she could catch her breath, she heard the sound of iron boots on the cobblestones.

“Search! She can’t be far!”

She had been moving too fast. She had pushed herself to fly a long way, but the knights had still found her so quickly. Was she that conspicuous in the air? If she hadn’t been wearing a cloak, yes. But the sky was dark, and she was a fast-moving shadow.

It was as if the knights had just spawned beside her.

The footsteps were getting closer. She had enough electricity to take down a few more. And she could probably force her wings to fly a little longer.

As long as they didn’t come into the alley, she could stay hidden. But she had to be prepared. If they came in, she would take them down and fly away in the confusion.

She held her breath, listening. The footsteps were getting closer.

“Here!”

The moment the voice came, she released her lightning. A scream. She gritted her teeth and flapped her wings. The take-off was slow. An arrow pierced her wing. She was just off the ground when she fell like a broken bird.

“She can’t run!”

The Pope had said to capture her alive. Her magic was almost gone.

She pushed herself up. She had a little electricity left.

But that wasn’t all she had.

She looked at her right hand, which had just healed. It was going to hurt again.

“Surrender.”

Milly didn’t answer. She quickly pressed on the acupoints of her arm, opening the meridians. There was no time to do it slowly. She had to go all out.

The side effects would be severe, but at least she could take down a few more.

“Captain, she’s coming!”

“What are you afraid of? Without her magic, she’s just a…”

The next moment, Milly’s fist slammed into the captain’s chest. The dull thud cut off his words. The captain stared at the dent in his armor, his eyes wide with disbelief. A weak demon, without magic, should have been easy prey.

The next moment, his body flew backward, crashing into the wall.

Three more punches. The remaining electricity could take down four or five more.

There were a dozen knights. She couldn’t take them all down. This was a problem.

She dodged a sword thrust and punched another knight.

Two more.

She was going to be worn down. She had to think of something else.

She dodged, trying to flap her wings. The arrow wound throbbed. Even a slight movement sent a searing pain through it.

She could probably force one more flight.

She dodged a sword thrust, adjusted her angle, and punched. The knight flew back, crashing into his comrades. The stored electricity in her fingertips burst out in a white light.

The knights instinctively shielded their eyes. It was her chance. She gritted her teeth against the pain and flew. When she had created some distance, she fell to the ground.

She pushed herself up. Her electricity was almost gone, and she couldn’t fly. If they caught up to her now, she would have to sacrifice her left hand.

At the same time, the knights quickly regrouped, ready to capture her. For them, a demon without magic was an easy catch.

Just then, a slender figure appeared on a nearby roof, a silver thread, barely visible to the naked eye, wrapped around her fingertip.

At the same time, the other end of the thread quietly approached a few knights, passing through the gaps in their helmets and piercing the back of their heads. A few knights suddenly froze.

Seeing his comrades stop, a knight was about to ask what was wrong, when he saw one of them draw his sword and, without a word, pierce his chest.
