The morning light filtered through the sheer curtains, casting a faint glow on the bed below. Milly’s eyes slowly opened, the slight warmth on her eyelids waking her. After being curled up in narrow alleys or lying in cold cells, it had been a long time since she had slept on a soft, comfortable bed.
The only downside was the lingering sense of suffocation she had felt since falling asleep.
It was like being back in the fortress, right after she transmigrated. Every morning, someone would be clinging to her like an octopus.
And here she was. The moment she opened her eyes, the girl with the flaxen hair was sprawled across her, clinging to her like an octopus. The sleeping posture was exactly the same. No wonder she had felt that familiar suffocating sensation.
The coincidence was too much. She looked up at the unfamiliar ceiling and sighed silently. She didn’t need to look for proof anymore. Lisa’s true identity was obvious.
Even if it wasn’t the woman herself, it was at least remote control. The only problem was that Milly’s appraisal skill still yielded no results from Lisa.
The third appraisal showed no change. Lisa’s situation was not as simple as she had initially thought. A possibility flashed in Milly’s mind. If the tentacle that shot out of her palm was truly a result of the contract, then she could acquire Stacy’s abilities through the contract.
In return, Stacy could probably get something from her. And there was another possibility.
The entire process of awakening the appraisal skill—first her eyes were damaged, then Stacy, as Lillian, healed them. Since then, her vision had improved, and the appraisal skill had appeared. The God’s perspective had also appeared after her eyes had fully recovered. So, had these abilities originally belonged to Stacy?
And had they been indirectly acquired by her through the special healing method? That would explain why the appraisal skill was so inconsistent, with question marks appearing on key information.
Following this theory, whether Stacy was getting something from her through the contract or if the abilities were hers, Stacy had a way to interfere. And the result was that no matter how hard Milly tried, she couldn’t appraise Lisa.
Milly sighed. Lisa was definitely connected to Stacy, perhaps even Stacy herself. She didn’t need to investigate further. She would just wait and see what Stacy was planning.
She gently pushed Lisa away. The sleeping girl grumbled and clung to her even tighter. The familiar ritual of struggling to push her off was being replicated.
But since it was Stacy, she didn’t need to hold back. She pushed harder, and Lisa rolled over to the other side of the bed.
She stretched her cramped limbs. The familiar scene left her dazed, but she quickly cleared her head. The sun was rising. She had to hurry.
“Ugh… good morning…”
Lisa rubbed her eyes and sat up. Her green eyes were still misty with sleep.
“Good morning.”
She quickly jumped off the bed and rushed to the wardrobe. Milly watched her silently. She came back with a brand new white dress. “This is for my neighbor’s little sister. She’s about your size.” She handed the dress to Milly and produced a new pair of leather shoes and white socks.
Milly took the dress. It felt soft and smooth.
“I’ll go make breakfast.”
Lisa left. Milly quickly changed into the new dress. It fit perfectly, even the curve of the waist. It was as if it had been tailor-made for her.
The new socks were soft and comfortable. The lace on the top was familiar. She had seen it before.
The new shoes fit perfectly. She took a few steps. Nothing felt wrong.
The coincidence was too much. Milly didn’t even want to question it. The result was obvious. And when Lisa had taken out the shoes and socks, she had felt a familiar aura that had quickly faded.
The question was not whether she was Stacy, but why she was doing this. Was she that confident in her acting, or did she think Milly was an idiot?
Whatever the reason, it didn’t matter.
She went downstairs to the dining table. Hot milk was on the table, and Lisa was serving breakfast.
She looked at Lisa’s grandfather’s room. “Is your grandpa not joining us?”
“Oh!” Lisa jumped. “Grandpa left early for the carpentry shop. The villagers have been asking him to make a lot of wooden tables.”
“That sounds like hard work.”
After that, they ate in silence. Only the clinking of cutlery could be heard.
After breakfast, Lisa brought the carriage to the front of the house. The carriage was loaded with flour and other groceries. She then led the horse to the carriage.
“Time to go.”
Lisa seemed a little distracted today.
“Actually…” Lisa lowered her voice as they rode. “I always wanted to be an adventurer.”
