Chapter 6: The Maid’s Unwavering Devotion and a Dungeon’s Secrets

“That may be true, but tell me, what are those guards supposed to do?” Setia asked.

“They’re meant to protect the Golden Dragon Temple and prevent any intruders,” Eileen replied.

“So what did you do yesterday?” Setia pressed.

“Well…” Eileen pondered seriously. “Since Lady Faltis hasn’t been in the Dragon Palace for the past month, I prepared for her return at any moment. I washed the bedding, trimmed the potted plants, organized all the materials Lady Faltis might need, and then cleaned. After that, I encountered Her Majesty the Red Dragon, dealt with the invaders, and then prepared Lady Faltis’s bath…”

“Stop, stop, stop!” Setia cut Eileen off. At this rate, Eileen would recount her entire day.

“See! Didn’t you just say it? Guards are meant to protect the Golden Dragon Temple. If you, as a maid, did all that, what exactly were *they* doing?”

“Everything you just listed isn’t what a normal maid should be doing,” Setia stated.

Eileen nodded, seeming to understand yet not quite. However, her next words completely stunned Setia.

“Perhaps I’m not a qualified maid, then? I don’t care what a maid is supposed to do. As long as Lady Faltis needs it, I will accomplish it.”

Setia felt the vast difference between them. It was no wonder so many people adored Eileen.

“What’s wrong?” Eileen looked at Setia, puzzled by her sudden shift into melancholy.

“Nothing, nothing at all.” Setia quickly rallied her spirits. “I should learn from you too!”

“Learn what?” Eileen was a little bewildered, unsure what Setia could possibly learn from her.

“Everything! Though I can’t help you with interrogation. However, there’s an interrogation room in the dungeon, and the guards there should know something. You can ask them.”

“Is that so?” Eileen mused. It made sense; she had indeed asked the wrong person. “Thank you.”

Eileen rose. Now that she knew the next step, she needed to complete it quickly. She couldn’t keep Lady Faltis waiting too long.

“Huh?!” Setia still had something to say, but Eileen vanished in a flash.

“Lady Eileen!” Two guards greeted Eileen in a hurry upon seeing her, surprised by her sudden appearance.

Although Eileen’s position was that of a maid, every dragon within the Golden Dragon Temple knew she was no ordinary dragon maid.

At the very least, in all their years serving the Golden Dragon Temple, this was the first time they had seen their Golden Dragon Queen show such affection for a dragon maid.

Previously, other dragon maids wouldn’t even dare to approach Faltis’s room, let alone stay by her side. Not to mention, Faltis had even taken Eileen to Sky-Colored Fantasy Island.

Thus, they treated Eileen with immense respect. After all, no one would be foolish enough to cross the Golden Dragon Queen’s beloved pet.

Eileen had grown accustomed to the title by now. Initially, it had made her anxious, but after explaining countless times and realizing Lady Faltis had no objections, she let it be.

“May I ask, Lady Eileen, is there something you need in our dungeon?” a guard inquired.

“Is the nun who was brought in yesterday still here?” Eileen asked.

“She’s with us,” the guard confirmed.

The Golden Dragon Temple had two dungeons: one for males, and one for females.

Naturally, as female guards, they were responsible for overseeing the dungeon that housed female prisoners.

“Do you need us to bring her out? The dungeon is quite dirty, after all,” the guard offered.

Eileen shook her head. “Just open the door; I’ll go down myself.”

“Understood. A guard will accompany you inside.”

“Mm.” Eileen nodded.

Creak—

The prison door slowly opened.

A foul stench immediately wafted out, a metallic tang of rust mixed with the腥味of blood.

Eileen frowned. The smell was truly… a bit much.

It wasn’t that Eileen couldn’t tolerate the scent; it was just that she would need a bath afterward, otherwise, Lady Faltis probably wouldn’t embrace her.

Drip—drip—

Water droplets fell from the dungeon ceiling, echoing as they struck the stone slabs and iron chains.

With the gate open, the prisoners in the dungeon saw a sliver of sunlight for the first time in ages.

The previously silent dungeon filled with a cacophony of voices.

But soon, the jarring clang of weapons striking iron doors rang out, forcing them to confront reality.

A guard approached Eileen. “Lady Eileen, please follow me.”

Eileen followed behind her to a particular cell.

The nun’s wrists were firmly bound by iron chains, the fresh red marks indicating her desperate struggles. Her nun’s habit was now stained with murky sewage, and even the silver cross at her chest was sullied.

She knelt before Eileen, gasping for breath, her body incredibly weak.

Eileen felt a strange sensation. Although she had defeated the nun, it shouldn’t have left her so utterly feeble.

“Did you… do anything to her?” Eileen asked.

The guards shook their heads. “We are only responsible for guarding the dungeon. Interrogation is handled by another group. Besides, she hasn’t left this room since she arrived yesterday.”

Eileen opened the cell door and stepped inside.

The nun raised her head, meeting Eileen’s gaze.

“?!” Eileen froze, instinctively taking a step back.

“What’s wrong, Lady Eileen?” The guards rushed forward, knowing they couldn’t bear the responsibility if anything happened to Eileen.

Eileen waved her hand, signaling them to stay back. “I’m fine.”

The nun stared intently at Eileen, her eyes filled with an unwillingness to yield. This look…

Eileen couldn’t explain why it felt so incredibly familiar.

But soon, a trickle of fresh blood spilled from the nun’s lips. Eileen initially thought she was attempting suicide.

However, just as Eileen reached out to touch her, intending to stop her, she felt the nun’s body was intensely hot, as if flames coursed through her veins.

Eileen felt a headache coming on, but she couldn’t afford to dwell on it now. If the nun was choosing suicide, she must hold some vital secret.

Eileen severed the chains, her silver wings unfurling, and carried the nun out of the dungeon.

Catching each other’s eyes, the guards exchanged glances. “Well, if it’s Lady Eileen, then there shouldn’t be any problems.”
