Chapter 71: The Purge Begins

“For now, it seems there are no issues,” Eileen said.

“Hehe, Eileen, you’re so wonderful!” Setia exclaimed, clutching Eileen’s tail, utterly content.

Remarkably, when Setia awoke the next day, she was fully recovered, her body showing no abnormalities. This prompted Eileen to ponder deeply.

Was it the ancestral remedy’s incredible potency, or did her tail truly possess healing properties?

Despite Setia’s recovery, she was not permitted to leave the room.

“Now that you’ve mostly recovered, we must observe you for ten days,” Eileen stated.

“Alright!” Setia readily agreed without a moment’s hesitation, for simply being with Eileen brought her immense joy.

As for why Setia couldn’t leave Eileen’s room…

Ten days later, Setia lay nestled beside Eileen, embracing her tail on the same bed.

Setia soon drifted into a peaceful slumber.

Outside the window, the full moon slowly emerged, seemingly announcing the dawn of a new event.

Eileen opened her eyes, gazing at the sleeping Setia, and whispered an apology to her.

She placed a flower from the table beside Setia’s pillow. “Just a short sleep,” she murmured. “When you wake, it will all be over.”

Eileen exited her room, locking the door. As she reached out to touch it, a protective barrier shimmered into existence.

This barrier, personally set by Faltis, was so formidable that even a Dragon King would be unable to budge it in the slightest.

The purge was about to begin.

Eileen strode down the corridor. At this hour, the Golden Dragon Sanctuary was sparsely populated, with only the patrolling guards remaining.

She arrived at the utility room, a place rarely frequented by anyone.

A layer of dust coated the doorknob. However, in this world, doorknobs were often mere decorations.

Eileen gathered a wisp of white magic, injecting it into the keyhole. The wooden door swung open on its own accord.

Eileen approached a massive wooden chest and lifted its lid.

Inside lay a set of armor, similar to Kassim’s, yet distinctly feminine in design. A faint bloodstain marred the neckline, which Eileen gently wiped away.

Her hand brushed against an emblem.

This emblem differed from the S-rank badges she had seen before. It was crafted from dragon scales.

Only the top hundred Dragon Slayers possessed such an emblem, signifying the empire’s most elite warriors. It remained at S-rank because that was the highest possible classification.

Only those bearing this emblem were deemed worthy to challenge a Calamity-rank Dragon King—though ‘challenge’ was often all they could manage.

Beside the black armor lay a silver set, far less intricate. It was simply armor Eileen had conjured on a whim.

“Eighth-tier magic: Ice Golem.”

A block of ice materialized before Eileen. Wielding an ice hammer and chisel, she began to sculpt the block.

Once a humanoid shape emerged, she adorned it with the silver armor. ‘It should be fine to let her play a little, shouldn’t it?’

Eileen waved her hand, and the Ice Golem began to move. “Let me think,” she mused.

Eileen then programmed a series of magical commands into the Ice Golem, dictating its movements.

‘An elf skilled in fire magic… it seems they’ve done their homework on me. But few know this weakness of mine. Who could it be? Quite a puzzle.’ Eileen donned the helmet and black armor, grasping the long spear that matched the set.

‘A spear, then? Fortunately, I learned a little in the past.’

A teleportation array shimmered beneath Eileen’s feet.

The next second, Eileen appeared on a mountaintop outside the Golden Dragon Territory.

After approximately five minutes, a figure clad in red emerged before Eileen.

“Hannah, I didn’t expect you to arrive so quickly this time.” Long red hair, slender ears, and a dragon-scale emblem on her chest. ‘It seems she is the fire-elemental elf that Lady Faltis mentioned. Her name was…’

“Lisa, you’re quite slow,” Eileen remarked.

“Slow is fine. Those guys only ever boss us around. Besides, a Dragon King-level guard requires both of us?” Lisa’s voice was laced with disdain.

Owners of the dragon-scale emblem were unlike the inflated S-ranks; they had genuinely participated in the slaying of Dragon King-level dragons or Calamity-tier wars.

“Don’t be too careless. If Faltis left her to guard the Golden Dragon Sanctuary alone, she must have her reasons,” Eileen warned.

“Since when were you so cautious? That’s not like you. Are you scared?” Lisa playfully patted ‘Hannah’s’ shoulder.

“I’m not worried about that. After all, you’re the one facing the Dragon King-level opponent,” Eileen replied.

“Don’t worry, according to reliable intelligence, the target is extremely afraid of fire. This is practically tailor-made for me. Once you deal with those troublesome nuisances, we’ll see if we can manage her together,” Lisa declared.

“Don’t cause any unnecessary trouble.”

“Relax, I’m confident I can handle her. After this job, we’re guaranteed to advance further!” Lisa said, brimming with self-assurance.

Eileen merely shrugged, disinclined to waste more words on her.

The two headed towards the Golden Dragon Sanctuary.

Eileen paused at the barrier.

Just as she had five years prior, she extended her hand and placed it upon the barrier.

With a single strike, she shattered the Golden Dragon Territory’s barrier.

“Wow, how reliable! Let’s gloriously complete this slaughter of these vile creatures!” Lisa surged forward, casually unleashing several fire spells that repelled the dragon guards.

The dragon guards’ expressions turned grim. This was likely the most formidable opponent they had ever faced.

“Lady Faltis is out. Has Lady Eileen arrived?”

“Soon, I imagine. After all, this is already the second line of defense. Lady Eileen should have received the message by now.”

Some dragon guards watched her indifferently. They had known about this long ago; from the start, they had no intention of stopping the invaders. They had retreated here early, awaiting Eileen to clean up the mess.

However, what they hadn’t anticipated was that the Dragon Slayer seemed to have them locked in her sights. Before they could even resist, their hearts were pierced by a long spear.

“S-rank… No, this isn’t an ordinary S-rank.”

One strike, fatal, hitting the heart without deviation—this was beyond the capability of a typical S-rank. They saw it: the dragon-scale emblem on Eileen’s chest.

“A top hundred Dragon Slayer…”

“Hmph hmph…” Beneath the helmet, purple eyes glinted with an eerie light, and she let out a strange laugh. Her form, ghost-like, weaved through the dragon guards, precisely eliminating the targets Faltis had designated.

Eileen’s hands trembled. ‘Damn it, at this rate, my occupational hazard is really going to act up.’
