Eileen’s heart was filled with doubt. In this world, only she and Faltis should know this secret…
“Thank you for saving us, Lady Eileen.” A Dragon Guard approached Eileen, interrupting her thoughts.
“Oh… right.” Eileen snapped back to reality, looking at them. “Are your injuries better?”
“Thanks to Lady Eileen’s timely rescue, there were no major injuries,” the Dragon Guard replied.
“Ah, I was asking about the previous time. That wound, it was almost spreading to your heart, wasn’t it?” Eileen, though unsure of their name, still remembered them.
This was the Black Dragon she and Yarlola had encountered in the infirmary that day.
“Lady Eileen actually remembers me?” The Black Dragon was visibly surprised.
“I just had a slight impression, after all… I truly don’t know your name.”
“My name is Sophis,” she quickly offered.
“Sophis? I’ll remember that.” Eileen looked at the Dragon Slayers, who were now shackled in chains.
Eileen had already learned from Yarlola that she possessed no talent for interrogation. It was best left to the professionals.
However, Eileen wasn’t so foolish as to hand over such crucial Dragon Slayers to dragons who might be traitors.
“Come with me,” Eileen instructed, leading the four-person squad.
Keeping them in her own room would be far safer and more secure than confining them to the dungeon.
Besides, she barely spent any time in her room herself.
The four of them followed behind Eileen. Monet looked at Eileen. “What do you intend to do?”
“Since you’ve all come here, the one you wish to challenge is naturally Lady Faltis, isn’t that right?” Eileen stated.
“No, no, no! We never intended to make a move against Faltis; we merely heard…”
Suddenly, Eileen felt a violent surge of magical power emanating from the few individuals beside her.
“Ice—”
A flash of golden light streaked past.
The Dragon Slayers, who had been standing there moments before, had vanished.
The lingering heat in the corridor caused beads of sweat to form on Eileen’s forehead.
“Now, S-rank Dragon Slayers are so abundant they’re used as bombs?” Faltis ignited a ball of flame on her fingertip, then tossed it out the window.
A violent explosion and a burst of fire illuminated the night.
“Lady Faltis…”
“A decent reaction, I see,” Faltis praised.
Even if she hadn’t intervened, Eileen would have been unharmed. However, the Golden Dragon Temple might have suffered greatly.
“Lady Faltis… what was that?” Eileen felt her heart pounding. It wasn’t because the explosion was close, but because living beings had vanished right before her eyes, and in such a cruel manner.
“Haven’t you already experienced this firsthand?” Faltis asked. “Your ultimate fate was also like this; it’s just that I interrupted yours, while theirs was merely expedited.”
No wonder… Eileen had felt a slight sense of familiarity.
“Why did they end up like that?” Eileen asked, though she already had an answer forming in her mind.
Moments ago, Monet seemed to have mentioned a key phrase.
“Sigh.” Faltis let out a weary sigh. “Whether it’s the dragons or humans, everyone seems intent on bullying me alone.”
“Perhaps I should just drive out all the other dragons from the Golden Dragon Temple; then I wouldn’t have to worry about traitors.” Yet, these were merely words spoken in frustration.
Faltis knew full well that there were traitors among these guards, and quite a few at that. But there was nothing she could do; many matters still required their assistance.
If Faltis hadn’t possessed considerable strength, the Golden Dragon territory would have long since been completely devoured.
“Is there any way to find those guys?” Eileen inquired.
“It’s not impossible.” Faltis looked at Eileen. “The ones who die are often the most loyal.”
“…I’m sorry.” Eileen understood the meaning behind Faltis’s words.
Five years ago, Eileen had eliminated those loyal guards.
“Shall we employ the same tactic once more?” Faltis asked.
“I could, but wouldn’t it seem too fake if we didn’t kill them?” Eileen questioned.
Faltis, in response, playfully tapped her on the head. “What? Is your professional habit kicking in?”
“However, there are indeed a few individuals you can eliminate.” It wasn’t that Faltis couldn’t find the traitors, but she had no justifiable reason to kill those dragons without cause.
Doing so would put her in a vulnerable position among the dragon race.
Moreover, there were many who were still lurking, who hadn’t made a move, and Faltis had even less reason to act against them. But if they were Dragon Slayers, that would be an entirely different matter.
“We’ll do this, and that, and then this.” Faltis took Eileen’s hand.
‘…’ Eileen wasn’t sure why, amidst their conversation, they had ended up on the bed.
Faltis held Eileen’s tail, her long legs clamping it firmly.
“Lady Faltis, you didn’t specifically make me like this just for this, did you?” Eileen began to suspect, as Faltis seemed to have had this plan for a long time.
“Initially, yes, I did.”
“And now?”
“What do you think?” Faltis squeezed Eileen’s tail.
The tail, which moments ago could unleash powerful slashes, felt like a toy in Faltis’s hands.
“I understand my mistake, Lady Faltis…”
“Prepare for a few days, then begin the purge, my Dragon Slayer?”
“Yes, leave it to me.” Eileen nodded.
“I am somewhat worried you won’t be able to go through with it,” Faltis remarked.
“How could that be!” Setting everything else aside, Eileen was quite professional when it came to slaying dragons; over a decade of experience was no joke.
“Oh, right, Lady Faltis, more than that, there’s something else I’m quite concerned about.” Eileen, of course, had no worries about slaying dragons.
“What is it?”
“Is there a third person who knows about my situation?” Eileen inquired.
“?” Faltis seemed puzzled. “Why do you ask?”
Eileen then explained about the concealed arrow.
“Did you encounter anyone strange when you were in Glen Town?” Faltis asked.
Eileen shook her head. She had shown no flaws from beginning to end. Even when entering Izawa’s residence, she had used magic to conceal her face.
The other party had only called out her name due to instinctive fear.
“Do you have anyone you’re particularly close to, or someone who knows you very well?”
