Chapter 66: The Dragon Library and a Fiery Temper

Eileen strode down the corridor, her destination one of the most vital strongholds in the Golden Dragon Territory: the Dragon Clan’s Library. Within its hallowed walls, countless powerful spells were recorded, making it a place inaccessible to most dragons.

However, this repository was not under Eileen’s care. Instead, it was overseen by a Silver Dragon whose age stretched back through an unknown number of years.

Rumor had it that her lifespan rivaled that of the Golden Dragon Queen before last.

Eileen paused before a colossal solid wooden door.

Even standing at a distance, she could feel potent magical fluctuations washing over her in powerful waves.

The solid wooden door was intricately carved with several majestic dragons. Eileen didn’t recognize these particular dragons, but she had heard from Lady Faltis that they represented the likenesses of past Golden Dragon Queens.

As for why Lady Faltis’s image was absent, that remained a mystery.

Indeed, this door alone was so formidable that even an attack from a Dragon King would likely fail to leave a single scratch upon its surface.

“Thump, thump, thump!”

Eileen rapped on the door.

The elder residing within commanded immense respect; even Faltis herself treated this individual with the utmost deference.

“Teacher Saiana.”

After approximately two minutes, a silver-white magical array shimmered into existence on the solid wooden door.

The array slowly dissipated, and Eileen gently pushed the massive door open.

The Dragon Clan’s Library was vast, truly immense.

Towering shelves, row upon row, were laden with an astonishing array of magical tomes, ranging from ancient parchment manuscripts to the most recently published works on sorcery.

This boundless treasure trove was one of the primary reasons humanity coveted the Dragon Clan’s dominion.

Beyond the texts penned by dragons, the library also housed numerous books detailing other races.

Some of the races chronicled within these volumes might have long since vanished into the annals of time.

After all, this library had been collecting all manner of books since the very first Golden Dragon Queen, and Faltis was already the tenth in succession.

By a rough estimate, the library’s history spanned at least a millennium.

However, Eileen’s purpose for this visit was not merely to peruse its books.

She made her way to a secluded room nestled in a corner of the library.

Inside, a warm fire crackled in the hearth, imbuing the room with a tranquil and serene ambiance.

A silver-haired elder sat comfortably on a sofa, a blanket draped over her, the firelight dancing in the lenses of her spectacles.

“Teacher Saiana,” Eileen greeted, approaching her side.

“Eileen,” the elder replied, looking up at her. “How long has it been since you last came to see me?”

“My apologies, Teacher Saiana. Lady Faltis still has matters requiring my assistance, so I haven’t had much time to visit you,” Eileen explained.

Saiana, like Eileen, was a Silver Dragon. Half of the dragon magic Eileen had mastered originated from Saiana, while the other half, naturally, came from Faltis.

“Faltis, you say?”

Within the Golden Dragon Territory, only Saiana dared to call Faltis by her given name without consequence, besides Eileen.

Even Eileen, though, would typically face a reprimand for uttering that name. Saiana, however, possessed the inherent right to do so.

“Yes, Lady Faltis is currently away on business.”

“Always gallivanting about, never thinking of matters within the Golden Dragon Territory,” Saiana grumbled, seemingly displeased with Faltis.

In the past, Eileen had even argued with Saiana over this very issue, leading to an unpleasant skirmish. It was Faltis herself who eventually intervened, prompting Eileen to apologize to Saiana, which finally settled the matter.

“Lady Faltis is only out because of the Sky-Colored Fantasy Island event next month. Besides, Lady Faltis’s management of the Golden Dragon Territory…”

“She is the worst Queen I have ever witnessed,” Saiana interjected, giving Faltis no quarter whatsoever.

“Teacher Saiana, please show Lady Faltis a little more respect,” Eileen retorted, her own temper flaring slightly.

“What? Are you going to argue with me over her again?”

‘No,’ Eileen thought, knowing full well Teacher Saiana’s temperament. Continuing this would only lead to mutual unpleasantness.

The reason for Saiana’s dissatisfaction with Faltis was quite straightforward.

The previous Golden Dragon Queen, whom Faltis had slain, had been Saiana’s most brilliant student.

“How could I? I merely came to visit you, my dear teacher,” Eileen said, placing the fruits and pastries she had brought onto the table.

“You haven’t been a complete waste of my teaching, then,” Saiana remarked, still quite fond of Eileen.

Eileen was talented and diligent; her only flaw, in Saiana’s eyes, was her excessive obedience to Faltis. This particular aspect deeply displeased Saiana.

“The magic I taught you last time, how well have you mastered it?” Saiana inquired.

“It’s… alright, I suppose…” Eileen stammered, a hint of awkwardness in her voice.

She certainly couldn’t bring herself to admit that she had just joyfully learned a powerful spell, only for Faltis to effortlessly smack her back to reality when she tried to demonstrate it.

“‘Alright’? What exactly does ‘alright’ mean?” Saiana frowned.

“I’ve learned how to use it, but its power doesn’t seem quite… ideal,” Eileen explained. There was no helping it; Faltis was simply too strong. A spell Eileen had painstakingly prepared could be easily shattered by Faltis’s unchanted magic. This immense disparity made it difficult not to question if something was wrong with herself.

“You’ve already learned how to use it?” Saiana seemed genuinely surprised. Less than two months had passed; how could Eileen have mastered it already?

Saiana sat up, scrutinizing Eileen intently. “Let me see.”

“My apologies… Lady Faltis has stated that the use of powerful magic is forbidden within the Golden Dragon Sanctuary. Would it be convenient for you to accompany me outside, Teacher Saiana?” Eileen asked.

“Don’t listen to that one; what does she know? Forbidding this and forbidding that,” Saiana said impatiently.

“I’m sorry, Teacher Saiana, but this truly cannot be done,” Eileen stated, a touch of embarrassment in her tone.

“It’s Faltis again! Can you please stop mentioning her name in front of me?” Saiana’s impatience grew more evident.

“I apologize, Teacher Saiana.” Eileen felt helpless. The power of a powerful spell was immense. Moreover, she had only recently mastered it and couldn’t fully control it yet. If she accidentally collapsed a part of the Golden Dragon Sanctuary, Faltis’s return would mean far more than just a spanking.

Saiana closed her eyes, saying nothing more, only tapping her chair impatiently.

Though Saiana said nothing aloud, her intentions were quite clear.

Eileen shrugged, feeling a sense of helplessness herself. She had merely intended to visit her teacher, but the mere mention of Lady Faltis seemed to ignite a powder keg within Saiana. “My apologies, Teacher Saiana.”

Eileen bowed respectfully to Saiana before quietly exiting the library.
