“What is it? Why do you both look like that?”
“Nothing, nothing at all! We’re just a little surprised. Eileen, how did you figure it out?” Liana quickly asked.
“It was all too obvious. Why did I run into that person the moment I arrived? Why did I bump into her again as soon as I stepped out? And why was she already waiting for me at the Golden Temple? You two must have colluded, telling Falute the moment I left, didn’t you?” Eileen declared.
“Amazing! Eileen, you actually figured all of that out!” Liana and Setia found their lips twitching, barely able to suppress their smiles.
How could she be so confidently ‘wise’ at the same time?
Liana composed herself. No, she absolutely had to hold back now. She couldn’t let the secret slip.
“I apologize, but Lady Faltis has forbidden me from discussing this with you. I hope you understand,” Liana explained.
“Hmph hmph hmph!” Eileen chuckled triumphantly.
‘Just as I thought! How could there be so many coincidences? That vexing Faltis, even from so far away, she still finds ways to trouble me.’
“I knew it! Why else would such a huge commotion be resolved so quickly? It must have been pre-arranged!” Eileen stated with conviction.
‘So, Setia wanting to play the necromancer wasn’t just because she liked the costume. Everything makes sense now! Faltis! This time, I win!’
Eileen stood with her hands on her hips, radiating absolute confidence.
Liana bent over, unable to bear it any longer. She was about to burst.
“What’s wrong, Setia?” Eileen inquired.
“Nothing, I just thought of something amusing,” Setia replied.
“And Miss Liana? Did something amusing come to your mind as well?”
“I was simply happy to recall that Izawa’s matter has been resolved, and Gran Town can return to how it was before.” Liana had replayed all of Izawa’s past actions in her mind, yet she still couldn’t help but want to laugh.
Perhaps she now understood why Lady Faltis favored Eileen so much.
Liana’s only regret was likely that she wouldn’t be able to witness Eileen’s expression when Faltis, in her guise as Falute, eventually appeared before her.
“Is that so?” Eileen was already planning how to confront Faltis upon her return.
Liana took a deep breath, finally regaining her composure. “Miss Eileen, when do you plan to head back?”
“Probably in the next few days.” Eileen considered. If possible, it was best not to delay too long. After all, Izawa’s affair was no small matter; if it were discovered, it would be troublesome.
“I see…” Liana mused. “It’s quite a pity. Most shops, affected by Izawa, might take some time to recover.”
“It’s fine. Perhaps I’ll have a chance to visit again in the future?” Eileen couldn’t very well say that she had already explored the town before.
“However, Miss Liana, you mentioned earlier that you had dealt with several local tyrants, but a successor always appeared. What about this time? The Empire should still send a new one, right? And Izawa’s influence must have been quite significant, wasn’t it? I heard him say he was a noble of the Empire, a close confidant of the First Prince?”
Eileen remembered that while she was hiding, Izawa had rambled on about many titles, the most threatening of which were those two.
“Ah… that.” Liana spoke dismissively. “Those are merely titles. If he were truly a noble, he would have long gone to the Empire. How could he stay in a place like this?”
“It’s nothing more than the First Prince making a promise: if Izawa helped eliminate those who threatened his succession to the throne, he would be allowed into the Empire after killing a certain number or after a specific period.”
“Is that so…”
Eileen had met the so-called First Prince back when she was Kassim. At the time, she had thought he was a decent prince, treating her quite well.
“Regarding what happens next, Eileen, you don’t need to worry. It’s highly likely that no one will take over this mess for a very long time,” Liana assured her.
“Why?” Although Izawa was dead, his accumulated wealth remained. Surely, no one would dare touch those things.
“What Izawa did was too heinous, so this town currently despises outsiders. At least some time must pass, for these sentiments to subside, before a new ruler is sent,” Liana explained.
“Won’t they be suspicious? A necromancer suddenly appeared, with a very clear objective directed solely at Izawa?” Eileen asked.
“No, that’s quite normal. Weak souls are useless to a necromancer. Furthermore, the Empire likely has no time to concern itself with matters here right now.”
“Why?” Eileen pressed.
“Have you forgotten? In less than a month, the quinquennial Dragon Celebration will begin. At that time, all the Dragon Kings will travel to Sky Fantasy Island to prepare and discuss their upcoming objectives.”
Eileen nodded. Indeed, such an event existed. However, Eileen wasn’t privy to the discussions among the Dragon Kings.
Therefore, she wasn’t clear on the decisions made by those Dragon Kings.
“I understand.”
“Thank you so much for handling Izawa’s matter.”
“I didn’t really do much.” Eileen reflected, realizing she had mostly just tied up loose ends. She hadn’t truly accomplished much herself.
Moreover, judging by Falute’s capabilities, she could have perfectly resolved the situation even without Eileen’s intervention.
‘Perhaps Lady Faltis simply wanted me to experience it?’
“If I had to say, you should thank that person named Falute more, right? She completed the majority of this mission,” Eileen said. “Though her personality might be a bit too strange? But perhaps that was Lady Faltis’s command?”
Liana, who had just barely managed to hold back, almost burst out laughing again at Eileen’s words.
‘My dear, why must you be so adorable?’
“Alright, alright, I’ll pass your thanks on to her,” Liana said, gently patting Eileen’s head.
Eileen remembered that when she was Kassim, just before entering the Golden Dragon territory, Miss Liana had also patted her head and cautioned her to be extremely careful.
She never expected their next meeting to be like this.
