Join the ServerEileen’s ears twitched. She had clearly heard Peroy’s voice.
Yet, Eileen did not rush to open the door. Instead, she continued tidying the room.
“Hey! I can come in and watch you clean!”
Peroy called from outside the door.
Eileen, however, acted as if she hadn’t heard a thing, continuing her meticulous cleaning.
“Don’t pretend you didn’t hear me. The meeting hasn’t started yet, you know. I can walk in and join it anytime.”
Peroy threatened.
“Oh? So, Lady Peroy *does* know the meeting hasn’t started yet? I thought perhaps you were unaware of that fact.”
Eileen said softly, a hint of mischief in her tone.
“But hasn’t Faltis already left?”
Peroy retorted.
“Lady Peroy, I suggest you return now. Lady Faltis could come back at any moment.”
Eileen stated.
“Then, how about you stop being my servant for a bit? We could go out for a walk, pretend it’s a chance encounter, and do some shopping together. Even if Faltis saw us, she wouldn’t say anything, right?”
Peroy suggested.
“Hmm, a very good suggestion indeed. However, Lady Faltis just left, and then we ‘chance upon’ each other and go shopping immediately after?”
“Only a three-year-old would believe that excuse.”
Thus, Eileen decisively rejected Peroy’s suggestion.
“Lady Peroy, you should give up! We can consider ‘us’ after the meeting begins.”
Eileen had no intention of opening the door for Peroy.
“Oh, come on, just let me in for a bit.”
Eileen simply ignored her. After she finished cleaning the room, she settled onto the sofa and began reading a book.
“What are you reading?”
Peroy’s voice drifted in from the balcony.
‘Lady Peroy… How did Peroy manage to get out onto the balcony without me noticing?’
“Isn’t flying prohibited here?”
“You underestimate me too much. It’s only flying that’s prohibited.”
Peroy said with a touch of pride.
Eileen, for her part, couldn’t fathom what there was to be proud of.
“Lady Peroy, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Lady Faltis could return at any moment. If she were to see you like this now, I fear…”
Eileen cautioned.
Peroy, however, remained unconcerned. “Hurry, open the door! It’s very cold out here.”
‘In that case, I certainly can’t open the door. It’s much colder inside the room than out there.’
Eileen wasn’t lying.
After Faltis left, Eileen naturally chose a temperature more suitable for her own comfort, resulting in the room being significantly cooler than outside.
“Open the door now! Faltis is back! You don’t want me to be discovered, do you? Knowing Faltis’s personality, she’d definitely figure things out!”
Peroy exclaimed.
This made Eileen set down the cup she was holding.
“That is a matter for you to ponder, Lady Peroy. After all, I haven’t broken any agreements.”
“Tsk,” Peroy hadn’t expected Eileen to be so unyielding, impervious to both soft words and threats. “Alright then, I’ll come find you in four days. However…”
Peroy’s final words carried a subtle hint of a threat.
“I look forward to our meeting in four days, Miss Peroy.”
Eileen replied.
Several minutes passed with no further movement from the balcony. Only then did Eileen finally breathe a sigh of relief.
She rose and approached the balcony door. She did not choose to open it and step outside.
Instead, she looked through the glass, gazing out.
Night fell, and the sky gradually darkened.
Eileen lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling.
The absence of a noisy person beside her made the room feel somewhat desolate.
Eileen had always preferred this quiet solitude, but now, it felt as if something was missing.
Moreover, after the news she had heard today, Eileen found herself unable to sleep, her mind restless.
Just then, Eileen thought she heard the sound of a door opening outside.
This immediately put Eileen on alert, but recalling Faltis’s earlier words, she felt a slight easing of her tension.
Nevertheless, Eileen grabbed a coat, put it on, and stepped out. “Lady Faltis? Is that you?”
The dark figure remained silent, suddenly appearing behind Eileen and covering her mouth.
Eileen felt a surge of helplessness.
She had already known, just moments ago, that the figure before her was Faltis. She simply wondered what new game Faltis was trying to play.
Yet, Eileen had no recourse. When the mistress was in the mood, what could a maid do but play along?
“What is it?” Eileen whispered.
“To the bed.”
“Alright.”
Eileen was guided by Faltis to the bed.
“Take off your clothes,” Faltis instructed.
Eileen then casually switched on the bedside lamp. “Lady Faltis, stop playing around.”
Faltis, draped in a black coat, asked, “How did you know it was me?”
“Didn’t Lady Faltis tell me that no stranger can enter your room on Fantasy Island of Heaven’s Decree? Firstly, they wouldn’t be able to obtain a key. Secondly, if one were to attempt to pick the lock, they should be prepared for death.”
Eileen explained.
“Did I really say something like that?”
Eileen could tell at a glance that Faltis was feigning ignorance, but Eileen also knew there was no point in continuing this charade.
“Lady Faltis, why have you returned so soon? Has the matter been resolved?” Eileen inquired.
“It truly wasn’t possible,” Faltis replied. “Just as I expected, how could the Tree of Origin be a place where anyone could simply walk in?”
“Well, there’s nothing to be done, after all, it is the Tree of Origin.”
Eileen shrugged.
More than that, Faltis was concerned about something else. “Oh, right, Peroy didn’t come looking for you, did she?”
“Is that what Lady Faltis was worried about?”
Eileen stared at Faltis.
“How could that be? I have complete trust in you, Eileen. I merely returned to inform you of this matter and asked as an afterthought.”
Faltis claimed.
“Lady Peroy arrived here not long after you left, Lady Faltis.”
Eileen revealed.
This was not something worth concealing; moreover, Eileen knew it would be impossible to hide.
“And then?”
“While I feel somewhat apologetic to Lady Peroy, I did not open the door for her. Instead, I left her locked outside.”
Eileen replied.
Faltis nodded, satisfied. Eileen had not lied.
She could sense Peroy’s scent outside, but there was none inside the room. Eileen wasn’t capable of cleaning so perfectly.
