“That’s not an option,” Eileen replied.
“What? I’ve touched it before. Now that you’re my maid, you won’t let me touch it?” Peroy asked, baffled.
“What do you mean, ‘Peroy-sama has touched it before’?! Peroy-sama, do you even remember when I ever agreed to such a thing? Wasn’t it always your own unilateral decision? And every single time, you’d cling to my tail and refuse to let go?” Eileen retorted.
“That may be true, but this… this is a master’s request!”
“Precisely because this tail is only for its true master to embrace, it’s even less likely to be offered to Peroy-sama! Besides, Peroy-sama, would you ever allow anyone else to touch your tail?” Eileen inquired.
“Certainly not! If anyone touched my tail without my permission, I’d send them flying with a single flick.” Peroy declared.
“Since Peroy-sama understands how important a tail is to a dragon, then please don’t casually tell other dragons you want to touch their tails. It’s quite impolite,” Eileen stated.
“Tsk.”
“Of course, if these next few days prove to be very pleasant, I might consider allowing Peroy-sama a small touch,” Eileen added.
Peroy was deeply annoyed. She usually had a plethora of mischievous ideas, but now, due to Aolian’s presence, they were inconvenient to implement.
“However, speaking of which, it’s quite late now. Does Peroy-sama require a lullaby service?” Eileen asked.
“Absolutely not!” Peroy walked downstairs, somewhat dejectedly. “I’ll be waiting for you downstairs. Come down now, immediately!”
“I understand.”
After Peroy left the balcony, Eileen locked the doors and windows, indicating she likely wouldn’t be returning anytime soon.
“Why are you so slow?” Peroy grumbled, sounding displeased.
“I merely tidied the room a little. This ensures that when Faltis-sama returns, there won’t be any dirt or unpleasantness,” Eileen explained.
“Couldn’t you just leave such things to the hotel staff?” Peroy asked.
“It’s truly best if I handle it myself. Faltis-sama doesn’t seem to care for the scent of others,” Eileen replied.
“Tsk.”
Peroy felt as though Eileen might infuriate her to death first.
Even though Peroy was now Eileen’s master, Eileen’s thoughts constantly revolved around Faltis.
What spell had Faltis cast upon this woman to command such unwavering loyalty?
“Could you perhaps pay a little attention to me? Am I not your master now?” Peroy questioned.
“Well then, dear Peroy-sama, what do you intend to do now? It’s quite late. Usually, Faltis-sama would already be asleep by this hour, and she rarely lingers outside so late,” Eileen remarked.
“A creature with no nightlife!”
Eileen looked a little embarrassed. “Is that truly so?”
“Faltis-sama’s nightlife… or rather, her *intimate* life, would be a more fitting description, always taking place in the evening, in bed.”
“Then where does Peroy-sama plan to go?” Eileen inquired.
Peroy genuinely didn’t know what would be best to do. Making Eileen her maid had been a sudden whim. “What do you typically do as a maid?”
“Certainly not stand on the street like this,” Eileen shrugged. “Shall we go to Peroy-sama’s room?”
“You’re not resisting now?”
“If Peroy-sama were a little more proper, I might have gone long ago. Moreover, with Aolian-sama present, I have no concerns that Peroy-sama might do anything untoward to us,” Eileen stated.
“Aren’t you afraid I might simply take you away from the Isle of Celestial Illusions?” Peroy challenged.
“Peroy-sama would never do such a thing,” Eileen paused. “Furthermore, how can Peroy-sama be sure that I haven’t made preparations to handle such a situation?”
“Forget it, I don’t have the interest or inclination.” Peroy headed towards the hotel where she was staying.
“Peroy-sama, are you certain it’s alright not to attend the meeting? This is a crucial conference that only occurs once every five years. Its contents will determine the dragons’ future actions, arguably even their very destiny,” Eileen asked.
“Why are you as nagging as my mother?” Peroy reached out and pinched Eileen’s cheek.
How could she not know the importance of this matter?
But precisely because she knew, and lacked the power to change anything, she chose not to participate.
Homo sapiens were insignificant. Dragons never cared what humans did, even viewing them as mere insects.
But what about now?
Were the decisions the dragons were about to make not as foul as those of insects?
All driven solely by self-interest.
Peroy stopped in front of her room door. Since she hadn’t stayed here, someone would surely clean it, so there was no need to worry.
Peroy opened the door. The room’s layout was almost identical to the one Eileen occupied, making it easy for Eileen to locate various items.
The room was indeed spotless; the service quality on the Isle of Celestial Illusions was impeccable.
Eileen was merely curious why such powerful dragons would enjoy performing these tasks.
Peroy switched on the room light.
Although she claimed indifference towards the meeting at the Tree of Origin, the first thing she did upon returning to her room was to step out onto the balcony, sit on a chair, and gaze at the Tree of Origin.
“If you’re truly concerned, it’s still not too late to go now, isn’t it? Falute-sama said only when the meeting truly begins…” Eileen brought over some tea and fruit pastries.
“Are you performing magic?” It had only been a few minutes. Where on earth had Eileen conjured these from?
“This is merely my duty,” Eileen poured a cup of tea for Peroy. “Does Peroy-sama prefer it hot or cold?”
“I prefer it quite iced.”
“I understand.” Eileen held the cup in both hands, and swiftly, an iced drink was prepared.
Peroy held the cup, looking into the distance. “Going or not going won’t change anything. I might as well enjoy what little tranquility remains.”
“I never expected Peroy-sama, who always enjoys excitement, to speak of savoring tranquility.”
