Chapter 84: A Peculiar Taste and a Playful Trick

“This taste is quite unique,” Eileen said. “Since Lady Faltis chose this restaurant even after knowing this flavor, it seems she truly enjoys it. I understand now. The next time I prepare food for you, I’ll use this as the standard.”

“Eileen,” Faltis began.

Eileen looked at Faltis. “What is it, Lady Faltis?”

“Are you looking for a scolding?” Faltis retorted.

“Hehe, I was just joking, Lady Faltis.” Eileen promptly backed down.

Subsequently, Faltis produced a small dish containing a vibrant red dipping sauce. “Who told you to eat it raw? Of course it wouldn’t have much flavor then.”

Eileen regarded Faltis with a hint of wariness. She had a nagging feeling that something was amiss, especially since Faltis had offered the sauce so readily. There had to be a trick!

Eileen cut a small piece of meat with her knife, then speared it with her fork. After coating it thoroughly in the red dipping sauce, she offered it to Faltis.

“Lady Faltis, please~”

“Aren’t you going to eat?” Faltis inquired.

“As a maid, it is only natural that I cannot taste the food before my mistress,” Eileen replied.

“Then what about just now?”

“…That was a taste test for poison.”

“And won’t you test this dipping sauce for poison too?” Faltis continued.

“Well, then, Lady Faltis, are you going to eat it or not?”

“You truly are impossible,” Faltis said, extending a hand to brush her golden hair aside. “Do you wish to play a feeding game with your mistress?”

Slowly, she leaned closer to the piece of meat, opening her mouth and extending her tongue. The fork was gently raised, and she took the meat into her mouth.

“It tastes quite good, Eileen. What’s wrong?” Faltis observed Eileen, who seemed to be frozen in place.

“Nothing at all.”

“Then, it’s my turn now.” Faltis followed Eileen’s earlier actions, though with one key difference: she replaced the red sauce with a green one.

“No, this simply won’t do. It’s entirely improper for a mistress to do such a thing for a servant, isn’t it?” Eileen refused.

“Is that your reason for disobeying your mistress’s command?” Faltis challenged.

“Alright.” Eileen closed her eyes and opened her mouth, wearing an expression of someone facing their doom.

Eileen felt something enter her mouth. She bit down lightly, but the texture felt somewhat off. No, the taste… it felt familiar. Eileen bit gently again, then licked it with her tongue. Absolutely… that taste, it was definitely!

Eileen opened her eyes, meeting Faltis’s gaze.

Indeed, what Faltis had extended was not food, but her finger.

Eileen stared at Faltis, knowing she had been tricked. With so many eyes watching them, Eileen’s face quickly flushed crimson. This time, however, Eileen bit Faltis’s finger with a hint of playful retaliation.

Strangely, a fleeting expression of shyness seemed to cross Faltis’s face, and Eileen was certain she had seen it!

“What? Is your mistress’s finger really that delicious?” The very next second, Faltis had reverted to her usual demeanor.

“Lady Faltis, you just…”

But Faltis offered Eileen no such opportunity. She simply picked up a piece of roasted meat and popped it into Eileen’s mouth. “If you want that reward, then perhaps next time.”

“Lady Faltis…”

“Try this; it’s the signature dish of this restaurant.”

“Lady Faltis…”

“This dessert is also excellent, sweet and delicious.”

Ultimately, Eileen was unable to ask her question before Faltis led her out.

“Lady Faltis…” Eileen remained somewhat persistent, but a single look from Faltis made her fall silent.

“The restaurant’s food was decent,” Faltis remarked, “but compared to yours, Eileen, it still falls a bit short.”

Overall, aside from Faltis initially making her eat raw meat, the taste was acceptable. However, it was still far inferior to what they had eaten in the Empire before.

Eileen wasn’t sure if this was due to her current dragon form, and whether her sense of taste had changed. It was also possible that these dragon foods were simply perfect replicas of human food, and she just couldn’t discern it now.

She would only know for sure once she returned to the Empire.

“Speaking of which, Lady Faltis, Lady Peroy seems to have disappeared?” Eileen noted, feeling the intense gaze from behind her vanish.

“Who knows about her? She’s probably been captivated by something else again,” Faltis replied.

“Lady Faltis, why do you speak of Lady Peroy as if she were a child?”

“Isn’t she?”

“I suppose there’s nothing to refute.” Eileen smiled helplessly.

‘I estimate she sensed it, which is why she temporarily hid herself. Several auras broke through the barrier and descended outside. She’s hiding now, meaning she doesn’t want the Red Dragon Queen to find her. She doesn’t want to enter the meeting, which means her target is truly you, right?’ Faltis looked at Eileen.

However, since Eileen had already agreed to Peroy’s request earlier, she was naturally prepared for such a question.

No change appeared beside Eileen.

“I’m not quite sure,” Eileen shrugged. “How could Lady Peroy’s thoughts be something she’d share with me?”

“Let me see if there’s a way for you to enter the meeting with me.” Although Faltis said this, she actually had little confidence in her words.

The rules here were set in stone; they were absolutely unchangeable.

“We meet again, Eileen.” A white figure appeared before Eileen.

“Lady Afuya.” Eileen gripped the hem of her skirt with both hands and bowed to Afuya.

“Faltis truly would choose to bring you along,” Afuya remarked.

Accompanying Afuya was a silver-haired girl who watched Eileen with keen interest.

Though her aura was not as potent as Afuya’s, it seemed comparable to Eileen’s, suggesting she was also a Dragon King.

“This is my daughter, Lena. She seems quite interested in you,” Afuya explained.

“Princess Lena.”

Lena nodded, her gaze fixed intently on Eileen.

“What is it, Princess Lena?”

“You are very powerful.”

“…Is that so? Thank you for the compliment, Princess Lena.”
