Chapter 62: A Maid’s Fury and a Shadow’s Message

“You have to come back early, you know. I don’t sleep well without your tail… Or how about you just detach your tail for me?” Faltis said.

Eileen instinctively wanted to clamp her tail between her legs. “Lady Faltis, please don’t say such terrifying things in such a serious tone! This isn’t a plug-in; I can’t just detach it!”

“I’m just kidding.”

“Then don’t make such a serious face! It’s truly frightening!”

Eileen pushed open the window. “I’ll be back very soon, Lady Faltis.”

“I know. Be careful on your way,” Faltis waved.

Eileen leapt from the castle. The moment she did, wings unfurled behind her, and her silver silhouette arced through the dark night.

“Just as the intelligence suggested, the defenses of the Golden Dragon territory are pitifully weak.” The S-rank Dragon Slayer flicked the weapon in her hand, shaking off the fresh crimson from her sword.

“The pupils and eyes, which store the power of a Dragon King, shall be mine.” She extended her hand, but at that moment, a few snowflakes drifted down from the sky.

As she felt a pang of confusion, her companions and her own primal instincts screamed at her to flee immediately.

Just as she loosened her stance and began to retreat, a figure appeared in the center of the full moon. Immediately, countless ice blades slashed toward the spot where she had just stood.

Her shoulder guard and a section of her long black hair were severed, and a distinct line was carved into the ground before them.

“Who are you?” The Dragon Slayer’s expression was grave. If she hadn’t been mistaken, that individual had unleashed those ice blades using their tail.

“Merely a maid to Lady Faltis. And you?”

‘A maid? With the power just displayed, you’re telling me this is *just* a maid?’

“Monet, captain of the S-rank Dragon Slayer Squad.”

“Monet, leave now, and no one will be harmed. But if you dare to cross this line, it won’t be just a shoulder guard that gets severed,” Eileen stated.

Monet stared at the maid in white armor before her, her expression turning grim. “Damn it, didn’t they say this person wasn’t home?”

“We should retreat, Captain. She doesn’t seem to be an ordinary Dragon King-level,” her companion urged.

“Nonsense!” Monet was no fool; she wouldn’t foolishly try to fight Eileen to the death.

She knew that the Golden Dragon territory’s weak defenses were internal information, yet for so many years, very few had seen the Golden Dragon Queen. There could only be one reason for this.

This individual in silver-white armor, with cold mist constantly seeping from its seams, was definitely not as simple as they appeared.

“Alright.” She raised her hands and stepped back. “I have no desire to fight you to the death. Let’s call it a day.”

“Ah… it seems you still intend to cross that line.” Eileen flicked her wrist; a golden flash emanated from her bracelet, and Durandal appeared in her hand.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Look down,” Eileen instructed.

Monet lowered her gaze and saw a sword mark beneath her feet. She followed the trace, realizing it extended all the way to the line drawn earlier.

Without their notice, Eileen had drawn a circle around them. This meant that Eileen had never intended to let them leave.

“Interrupting someone’s sleep is truly a most impolite act, don’t you agree?” Eileen’s sword pointed at her opponent.

Monet’s expression was solemn. If it were only Eileen, she wouldn’t fear, but several dragon guards stood behind Eileen. If they were to suddenly attack while Monet’s squad engaged Eileen, it would be fatal for them.

“Ganging up on someone is also quite impolite, don’t you agree?”

“Ganging up? No, I alone am enough.” Eileen waved her hand dismissively. “As Dragon Slayers, coming to this place, you should have come prepared, shouldn’t you?”

“Prepared for what?”

“Death.”

“Dea—!?” Monet watched Eileen’s figure suddenly become ethereal, realizing something was terribly wrong.

In the next second, Eileen reappeared behind her.

“Defensive magic!”

“Speed Boost, Lv. 7!”

The magical barrier shattered the instant Durandal touched it, and Monet, thanks to her speed boost, narrowly avoided Eileen’s attack.

If that strike had landed, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

“Didn’t we agree not to gang up on anyone? What is this?” Durandal’s blade reflected Eileen’s helmet, and through the helmet’s slit, Eileen’s cold, violet eyes gleamed.

“How is this ganging up? We are a single entity, a complete Dragon Slayer squad. We are inseparable, working in perfect sync, so naturally, we count as one person,” Monet declared.

Sometimes, such shamelessness could be quite impressive. However, Eileen had already prepared herself to face the entire squad alone.

“I need to finish this quickly, otherwise, if Lady Faltis comes, things won’t be so simple.” Eileen shook her hand. “You would do best not to resist any further. Being defeated by me is far better than facing Lady Faltis directly.”

Eileen offered a well-intentioned warning, though her opponents seemed unwilling to accept it.

“Arrogant dragonkin! You will pay for your hubris!” They rose and moved aside; the squad’s mage had been preparing a high-level spell since Eileen first appeared.

“Eighth-tier magic, Heavenly Fire!”

Red light, accompanied by nine layers of magic circles, shot straight into the sky. Yet, strangely, what should have been a scorching rain of fire transformed into falling snowflakes.

“Tremble in the endless bitter cold.” Durandal plunged into the ground, and in an instant, a sapphire array enveloped the entire area.

“Extreme magic? Is this for real?!” They should have recognized any Dragon King-level individual capable of casting extreme magic without incantation. Who was this mysterious maid who suddenly appeared?

‘Damn it! Those people wouldn’t have sent us here as test subjects, would they?’

“Wrong, wrong! We surrender, we surrender!” Monet had no desire to die in this place.

Snowflakes drifted down, and wherever they landed, patches of ice formed. Monet couldn’t imagine what would happen if they landed on her body; she’d be frozen solid in patches.

Monet’s body trembled, though she couldn’t tell if it was from fear, cold, or both. As for why she intended to keep them here? Naturally, it was to find out who had revealed this mysterious route to them.

But just as Eileen extended her hand, a black arrow shot toward her. Eileen caught the arrow, and the aura of dark death dissipated, leaving behind a slip of paper.

“?” Eileen opened the paper. The next second, it disintegrated into ice shards, vanishing forever into the air.
