Chapter 57: The Lingering Ache and a Glimmer of Hope

Eileen Calibot emerged from Faltis Calibot’s room, though her gait was notably peculiar.

“Setia…” Eileen greeted Setia.

“What happened? Is your foot badly injured? Do you need to visit the infirmary?” Setia stepped forward, offering Eileen support.

‘Damn it! Even a dragon’s body was too weak before Faltis!’

‘Not everyone could withstand Faltis’s Dragon Impact, even when she assumed her human form!’

“No need,” Eileen replied. “I’ll be fine in a moment.” She knew that even if the pain persisted, she would have to pretend to be well.

‘What kind of dragon would suffer from a stubbed toe for so long?’

“Is that so?” Setia watched Eileen hobble, her eyes filled with concern.

“I’m truly fine.” Eileen gently pulled away from Setia, attempting to walk normally for a short distance.

“Alright, alright, I know you’re fine…” Setia reached out, wiping away a tear mark from the corner of Eileen’s eye.

‘She’s practically on the verge of tears, yet she insists she’s fine. Eileen is such a silly girl.’

Eileen could only offer an awkward smile.

“Would you like me to take a look?” Setia offered.

‘You just want to see the injured spot, don’t you? I can’t even be bothered to call you out on it!’

“No, it’s really nothing serious. A little rest will do the trick. This is much better than before, actually,” Eileen stated.

Eileen had no desire to experience the full-body soreness from last time. This time, it was merely her backside aching, which she could begrudgingly accept.

More pressing than her own discomfort, Eileen turned her attention to Setia. “Setia, are you planning to wait here until Lady Faltis returns?”

“Yes, after all, Lady Faltis asked me to come over,” Setia confirmed.

“Did she have something she wanted to ask of you?”

“I’m not entirely sure,” Setia replied with a wry smile.

‘How could she not know? Faltis wanted her here because she touched something she shouldn’t have… Still, Setia had no regrets.’

“Since you’ve finished cleaning, Eileen, you should head back first. If you’re here, Lady Faltis probably won’t feel comfortable speaking freely, as she specifically asked for me to come alone.” Setia clearly did not want Eileen to learn of the matter.

“Understood, I’ll head back then.” Eileen’s sole desire now was to distance herself from Faltis; her backside still throbbed painfully.

Eileen tried her best to maintain a normal walking posture, but once she turned the corner, she leaned against the wall, limping visibly.

Anyone observing her might have assumed Eileen had been violated, though in some ways, the distinction felt negligible.

“Lady Eileen.” A guard on patrol greeted her.

Eileen nodded in acknowledgment.

‘She was slowly growing accustomed to this life…’

“I should still go to the infirmary…” Eileen clutched her backside. Faltis’s Dragon Impact was not something that could be healed by ordinary restorative magic.

Eileen arrived at the infirmary, which, despite its name, had no resident healer.

Prior to Eileen’s arrival, the facility had largely been abandoned.

After all, as long as their hearts remained unharmed, dragons could slowly recover from most injuries through their powerful self-regeneration.

Eileen approached a platform, the very spot where Yarlola had once lain.

Eileen placed her hand upon it.

Even now, having learned some unsettling truths about the Empire, Eileen did not regret her decision to spare Yarlola.

Since Yarlola had received the same treatment Eileen once did, it suggested that Yarlola was now also a thorn in the Empire’s — or rather, the First Prince’s — side.

Moreover, for someone from an A-rank Dragon Slaying Squad to know the Empire’s defense lines seemed highly improbable.

Her only regret was letting Yarlola go too soon, without extracting more information.

If given another chance, Eileen was confident she could capture her!

But for now, her own posterior problem needed addressing.

Eileen’s finger traced the giant axe hanging on the wall, and a streak of crimson appeared on her hand. She placed her hand on a magic orb, and her blood slowly seeped into it, causing it to emit a faint violet glow.

‘Searching for: Buttocks pain.’

Surprisingly, Eileen actually found a relevant entry.

‘It seems some other unlucky dragon must have had their backside spanked to warrant this record.’

The listed medications were common, requiring no rare ingredients, and were readily available within the room.

Eileen double-checked that the main door was locked. If anyone were to stumble upon what she was about to do, explaining herself would be impossible.

She lifted her skirt, unfastening her intimate attire.

The cool medicine spread across Eileen’s skin.

“Mm…” Eileen couldn’t suppress a soft moan.

‘Anyone passing by might assume Eileen was engaged in something illicit inside.’

Truly, the ancestral remedy was worthy of its legacy; its effects were instantaneous. Within minutes, the throbbing pain in her backside had completely vanished.

It had to be said, aside from the slight difficulty with reproduction, dragons were almost a perfect race.

“…?” Eileen suddenly realized something.

Was her transformation into a dragon also a kind of illness?

After regaining her memories, Eileen hadn’t found the time to return here.

Eileen placed her hand on the crystal ball once more, attempting to search.

‘Keywords: Turn back into human? Dragon’s curse? Become a dragon?’

All attempts failed.

“…”

‘Input: Failed dragon slayer…’

This time, it actually worked…

‘How twisted.’

Eileen’s heart began to pound. So it was true; she really could turn back…

Eileen stared at the information before her: the Tianshan Snow Lotus from the Frozen Rift, the Red Lotus Core from the Purgatory Furnace, the Mermaid’s Tear from the Abyssal Deep… and so on.

These materials, though incredibly precious, were not entirely unobtainable.

However, when Eileen saw the final ingredient, her eyes widened, and she quickly shut off the crystal ball.

‘A spellcaster’s heart…’

“Ahaha…” Eileen let out two dry laughs. “It must be Faltis, that trickster, deliberately putting this here for me to see. After all, she’s done this many times, right? Just like before, that dossier was absolutely something she wanted me to see.”

“And! Spanking my backside on purpose was definitely to make me come here to look up information, and then see this. It absolutely has to be!”

Eileen tried to reassure herself. Although she was indeed displeased by the situation and Faltis often teased her, it wouldn’t go so far as to require Faltis’s life as an exchange for her to return to her original form.

Eileen knew in her heart that without Faltis, she would have long since been a cold corpse…

After composing herself, Eileen left the infirmary.
