Chapter 74: The Ice Queen’s Grand Magic

“Because of her incompetence!” Saiana declared, her voice sharp.

“If Lady Faltis is incompetent, then what of the previous Golden Dragon Queen, defeated by Lady Faltis? Is she utterly worthless?”

“Eighth-tier Magic! Ice Prism Cone!” A shower of ice cones descended above Eileen’s head.

“Teacher Saiana, aren’t you being a little too hasty?” An ice mirror materialized above Eileen. “Let me guess, I’m afraid the previous Golden Dragon Queen and you, Teacher Saiana, share more than just a teacher-student relationship, don’t you?”

Eileen pondered this, and it was the only logical answer. Otherwise, there would be no reason for such intense hatred towards a Golden Dragon Queen who had earned her position through sheer strength.

Saiana had, after all, resided in the Golden Dragon Territory for a long time, active since even the queen before the last one. As an elder of the Golden Dragon Territory, she should have rejoiced at a throne claimed by merit.

If one truly disagreed, they could simply leave; Faltis had never forced anyone to stay.

Yet, Saiana neither approved nor departed, lingering persistently. This undeniably pointed to some peculiar underlying reason.

Were they mother and daughter? Sisters? Or perhaps… lovers?

“I thought someone of your venerable age wouldn’t resort to such childish tactics,” Eileen remarked, having secured her helmet. Her opponent, it seemed, had no intention of conversing civilly any longer.

However, Eileen still possessed a move, one capable of absolutely shattering Saiana’s composure.

“I wonder if you still remember this?” Eileen produced a longsword, slowly drawing it from its sheath. As she infused it with magic, the tightly closed eye on its hilt suddenly sprang open, revealing the very pupils of the previous Golden Dragon Queen.

Though Faltis had since transformed it into an ornament resembling a ruby, Saiana recognized it instantly.

Her body began to tremble.

Massive silver wings erupted from her back, enveloping her form.

Then, a deafening dragon’s roar echoed through the Golden Dragon Territory for a long time.

Immediately after, a colossal silver dragon stood before Eileen.

This was the Dragon Race, creatures that transcended all others.

The dragon’s body was covered in scales, its eyes radiating majesty, and its immense frame shattered the very library around them.

This was Saiana’s complete form.

“Give my daughter back to me!” the dragon roared, swiping a claw towards Eileen.

“Daughter, then?” It was precisely as Eileen had suspected.

But another question arose in Eileen’s mind: why was a silver dragon’s daughter a golden dragon?

And why had Faltis transformed herself into a silver dragon?

For now, however, Eileen’s more pressing concern was the immediate danger before her.

There was no sympathy in Eileen’s eyes, only a sense of profound pity.

Faltis had not employed any underhanded schemes; she had honorably defeated the previous queen.

While it sounded cruel, such actions were entirely normal within the Dragon Race. To become a monarch meant to be prepared for challenges, for defeat, and even for death.

Saiana’s hatred for Faltis was understandable.

Her continued presence in the Golden Dragon Territory was understandable.

Her desire to manipulate others to depose Faltis was also understandable.

What remained incomprehensible, however, was her transformation of that hatred for Faltis into a deep-seated animosity towards the entire Golden Dragon Territory.

“Speaking of which, Teacher Saiana hasn’t seen the sword arts I’ve mastered yet… Never mind.”

“Ten days ago, didn’t Teacher Saiana wish to witness the Grand Magic I command?”

“Did Faltis teach you?”

“In a way, I suppose? Though, I’m not entirely sure if I truly learned it, given that Lady Faltis simply slapped me awake back then,” Eileen said, pointing a finger skyward.

“Frost stars scattered everywhere, at the aurora’s zero point.”

Yet, this was a battle for life itself. How could Saiana, unlike Faltis, allow Eileen to continue her incantation?

The silver dragon’s breath seemed capable of freezing everything.

However… Eileen’s distinct advantage over other dragons was her tail’s superior agility.

Dragons like Eileen, who wielded weapons with their tails, were exceedingly rare.

Her translucent silver tail swung Durandal, its slashes deflecting the entirety of the icy breath.

“Solidify! Freeze! Let the cold snap descend upon the earth!”

Eileen’s hands continued to cast spells without pause.

Swiftly, the surrounding temperature plummeted, and a faint layer of frost appeared on the bookshelves.

Despite being an enclosed library, snowflakes now drifted down.

Saiana attempted to intervene, but her age was a significant factor; even among all dragons, she was considered ancient.

“You said it yourself! Faltis doesn’t permit you to use Grand Magic in the Sacred Hall!”

Since force wouldn’t work, she tried persuasion!

But for Eileen, this tactic proved utterly useless.

“The Ice Queen, reigning above the aurora, descends upon this place!”

“Grand Magic! Hundred Flowers Ice Burial!”

Blooming ice flowers crept across Saiana’s body, then… shattered.

“How beautiful…”

As the ice mist dissipated, Saiana’s body had reverted to her human form. She no longer possessed the strength to maintain her dragon transformation.

“Why… why didn’t you kill me?” If she were only a little younger, Eileen would have been no match for her.

It wasn’t that Eileen had held back; the fully unleashed Grand Magic was beyond even her own control.

“Was it still too much?” Eileen’s armor was frozen solid, ready to shatter with the slightest tap.

She tried to dispel it but couldn’t. She felt as though her very arms had turned to ice, numb and unresponsive.

This was the first time she had ever felt true cold since becoming a silver dragon.

“So, this is the taste of cold, is it?” Eileen moved her body, but her joints creaked, forcing her to a halt.

“Indeed, a terrifyingly powerful magic,” a red figure suddenly appeared at that moment, surprising everyone.

It was the Red Dragon Queen, Peroy Labish.

Why was she here?

No, Eileen had to leave quickly. If she were discovered, Lady Faltis would be in great trouble.

But her body seemed disobedient… unable to move.

In Peroy’s hand, Lisa was clutched, now unconscious.

Peroy casually tossed her aside.

Her gaze then shifted to Saiana. “You too, you’ve lived all these years in vain.”

“I understand your feelings, but not your methods. Your actions are more akin to believing the Golden Dragon Territory killed your daughter. Yet, it was *you* who made her the Golden Dragon Queen, wasn’t it?”

“Now, you should get some sleep first…” The calamity-level majesty suffocated Saiana, trapping her within a confined space.

“After all, I have some whispered secrets to share with our lovely little maid.”
