Chapter 89: A Curious Obsession and a New Beginning

“It seems Peroy is truly smitten with you,” Faltis remarked.

Eileen shrugged, her expression utterly innocent. “I truly don’t know why Lady Peroy is so preoccupied with me.”

This matter was indeed quite peculiar. Even Faltis found it difficult to comprehend. In her memory, Peroy’s targets were typically peers of similar age, and they had to be either stronger than or equal to herself.

Eileen, however, clearly met neither of these criteria.

Peroy was old enough to be Eileen’s ancestor, though Faltis herself was also of an ancient lineage. Moreover, Eileen’s strength was far inferior to Peroy’s.

This left Faltis genuinely perplexed about Peroy’s true intentions.

“Let’s not concern ourselves with Lady Peroy’s affairs,” Eileen said, moving to rise from the bed. “I will go prepare your bathwater and dinner, Lady Faltis.”

But Faltis gently pulled Eileen back. “There’s no need for any of that.”

Dragons were not a race that would lose strength from missing a single meal. For them, food was more about indulging their palate than sustenance.

“The room temperature is much lower than before,” Faltis observed.

“My apologies, Lady Faltis, I completely forgot,” Eileen replied.

Her tail shimmered with a faint blue light, swiftly restoring the room’s temperature to its previous state.

“It’s nothing,” Faltis said, a soft smile gracing her lips. “After all, living here alone, it’s natural for you to choose an environment that suits you. Besides, I don’t particularly dislike this temperature. It is, after all, your body’s warmth.”

“Lady Faltis, please don’t say such misleading things! What exactly are you implying?”

‘Although… Faltis truly did know the temperature within Eileen’s body…’

“Are you perhaps a little lonely without me by your bedside?” Faltis teased.

“How could I be…”

“Really? I thought you might be quite unaccustomed to me being around.” Faltis hugged Eileen’s tail closer.

“Well, maybe just a little,” Eileen admitted softly.

“Hehe, Eileen, you truly aren’t very honest,” Faltis chuckled, hugging Eileen’s tail with a bit more force. “Still, I’m a little worried about you. How about I sever ties with Peroy? That way, you won’t feel awkward refusing her because you’re considering my feelings.”

“Lady Faltis, please don’t casually utter such terrifying words!” Eileen was, by now, somewhat accustomed to Faltis’s playful impropriety in private.

“Is that so?” Faltis smiled. “Isn’t it because you make me worry too much?”

“Am I really that unreliable?” Eileen asked, a hint of helplessness in her voice.

“It’s precisely because you are so reliable that I worry about you. Tomorrow, I truly will be heading to the Tree of Origin. When I’m gone, you should go out and explore.”

“Understood. Good night, Lady Faltis.”

The next day, Eileen saw Faltis off. This time, she would truly be spending several days on her own.

Sitting alone in the room, Eileen felt a touch of loneliness.

Back in the Golden Dragon territory, Eileen could have sought out Setia to play. But here, it was best to simply stay put in her room.

Fortunately, before departing, Saiana had given her a book containing various spells.

Eileen found the contents remarkably familiar. Weren’t these the very spells Saiana had taught her before?

However, the spells she saw now were slightly different from the previous ones, containing additional elements.

“So, you’re finally willing to teach me the true magic,” Eileen muttered, a hint of frustration in her voice. It seemed the spells she had learned before were incomplete, which explained why she always felt something was missing when using them. Now, she would have to start learning all over again.

“Tell me, don’t you have any hobbies or interests? Your master isn’t home, yet you’re still cooped up reading. Can’t you go out and have some fun?” Peroy appeared on the balcony at some unknown moment, observing Eileen, who was engrossed in her book.

“If Lady Peroy weren’t constantly following me, I might actually want to go out for a walk,” Eileen retorted. Peroy’s recent actions had genuinely unnerved her.

A stalker! Absolutely a stalker!

“I wouldn’t do anything to you. After all, we agreed to meet once the conference begins, and there are still four days until then,” Peroy stated.

Today, Peroy seemed like a completely different person from yesterday.

However, Eileen firmly replied, “Lady Peroy, I vividly remember everything you’ve done to me before. Please give up on that idea. Just wait patiently for four days.”

“You really are something…” Peroy sighed, her gaze on Eileen seeming to shift. Perhaps she was beginning to understand why Faltis was so fond of her?

But mere loyalty alone couldn’t evoke such deep affection from Faltis, could it?

Indeed, Peroy’s approach to Eileen stemmed entirely from curiosity. She was curious as to why Eileen could be so close to Faltis.

Was it envy? Not exactly. She was simply intrigued by how the individual who had lived alone for hundreds of years suddenly had such a close companion.

“Fine, then. I’ll see you in four days,” Peroy said, departing from the balcony.

Eileen stretched, a relieved sigh escaping her lips. “She’s finally gone.”

If Peroy had kept watch outside the door, Eileen might have retreated into her room. Though, that might have been a bit rude.

Rising from the sofa, Eileen mused, “Lady Peroy probably won’t be back anytime soon. I might as well go out for a little stroll.”

Eileen went into her room, changed into casual clothes, and then headed downstairs.

“It really is exactly the same…” Eileen stood on the street, lost in thought.

‘What… should I do?’

Eileen was actually a little lost. While she wanted to go out and explore, once she was out, she realized she wasn’t quite sure where to go.

There weren’t many things that interested Eileen, or rather, her interests had only developed after becoming a dragon maid. Mostly, they revolved around cooking.

‘Then… perhaps I’ll research some new desserts. Faltis can taste them when she returns from the conference.’

Just as Eileen took a step, she felt a chill behind her, sensing something strange approaching. She swiftly retracted her tail, causing the figure that had suddenly appeared behind her to miss.

Due to inertia, Peroy’s body lurched forward.

Eileen reached out and caught Peroy. “Lady Peroy, please don’t run so fast on the street.”
