Chapter 90: The Price of Loyalty

“Well, isn’t it because you suddenly retracted your tail?” Peroy emerged from Eileen’s embrace.

“If I had kept my tail out, Lady Peroy would surely have clung to it and never let go, wouldn’t she?” Eileen said with a hint of resignation.

‘If Peroy held onto my tail, things would become quite troublesome.’

“Yet, here you are, out and about,” Peroy observed, looking at Eileen.

“Staying cooped up in a room all day would be dull. It’s rather nice to come out for some fresh air and a stroll.”

However, Eileen was somewhat unsure of where exactly she intended to go.

“So, where do you plan on going?” Peroy inquired.

Eileen shook her head. “I don’t know yet. Five years ago, I only ever explored this town. Strictly speaking, yesterday was my very first time truly wandering around Sky Fantasy Island.”

Eileen seemed to recall something. “Speaking of which, Lady Peroy, why did you suddenly vanish in the middle of our stroll yesterday?”

Peroy looked a little awkward. “I had a small matter that required my attention.”

“It was the Red Dragon Empress, wasn’t it?” Upon returning, Eileen had given it some thought and understood immediately.

Only the Red Dragon Empress could make Peroy act with such caution.

“Has no one ever told you that maids shouldn’t be so clever?”

“That’s typically for their masters, Lady Peroy. In front of others, one mustn’t appear foolish,” Eileen said, spreading her hands.

“But aren’t you about to become my maid?” Peroy retorted.

“First, Lady Peroy, I have never said I would become your maid; this is merely a transaction between us. Secondly, the time for our transaction has not yet arrived, so for now, I am not your maid.”

Eileen spoke with utmost seriousness. “If you, Lady Peroy, wish to breach our agreement, then I will not fulfill what I promised you earlier.”

“So, what you mean is, there’s nothing to discuss?”

“These are the terms we agreed upon.”

“Then I can go to the Tree of Origin right now, can’t I?”

“Of course, as you wish.” Eileen’s attitude was resolute.

“If you say that, it will bring a lot of trouble to Faltis…”

“Hey!”

Eileen completely ignored Peroy, turning her head and walking away.

Eileen took a few steps, Peroy remained rooted to the spot. Eileen rounded a corner, and Peroy was still standing there.

Eileen felt her heart quicken, but her steps did not falter. She knew that at this moment, she could only gamble.

Repeated concessions would only make Peroy more overbearing. Only by asserting her stance would there be room for negotiation.

Furthermore, Eileen didn’t believe Peroy capable of such a thing.

Of course, this trust stemmed from Faltis.

Eileen believed that if Peroy truly were the kind of person to do something so unscrupulous, Faltis would have ceased all contact with her long ago.

To say nothing of allowing Peroy to approach her.

“Tsk.” Peroy stood before Eileen, looking somewhat vexed.

“What’s wrong, Lady Peroy?” Seeing Peroy appear before her, Eileen let out a sigh of relief.

“If this weren’t Sky Fantasy Island, where doing anything strange leads to being caught, I would have definitely taken you away and seen just how loyal you could truly be.”

“Then I am indeed fortunate,” Eileen chuckled.

‘It seems Peroy has decided to let me off the hook.’

“I’m growing increasingly interested in you,” Peroy stated.

“I’ve always wanted to ask, Lady Peroy, why are you so interested in me?”

“Who knows? Perhaps it was love at first sight.” Peroy shrugged. “Since I have nothing else to do, I’ll stroll around Sky Fantasy Island with you.”

“You wouldn’t refuse that, would you?”

“Of course, I wouldn’t. If Lady Peroy refrains from doing anything peculiar, I would be very happy to go shopping with her,” Eileen said with a smile.

Shoulder to shoulder, the two walked along the path.

“Lady Peroy, is there anywhere you would like to go?” Eileen asked.

“Places I’d like to go? I’ve already visited them all over these past years. I hadn’t even planned on coming back this year.”

“Lady Peroy doesn’t like Sky Fantasy Island?”

“Dislike it? Not quite, but I’m simply not accustomed to this quiet life. While many dragons yearn for such tranquility, I prefer somewhere a little livelier. Of course, it might also be that I haven’t reached that age yet.” Peroy shrugged.

“Is that so?” Eileen nodded thoughtfully.

‘Ah… this is a complete opposite choice to Lady Faltis. Not reached that age? Aren’t they the same age? Could Lady Faltis have been hiding something from me? Well, Lady Faltis did say a woman’s age is a secret.’

“However, you mentioned earlier that you are seventy-three years old, correct?”

“Yes, what about it?”

“How young. And to be able to use Grand Magic at seventy-three is quite rare in the history of the dragon race,” Peroy remarked.

“What about you, Lady Peroy? When did you learn to use Grand Magic?” Eileen asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

“Fifty? Something like that, I don’t quite remember clearly,” Peroy replied.

“Fi… fifty?” Eileen was momentarily stunned. ‘That age, translated, is roughly equivalent to a human minor.’ “That’s truly incredible.”

“Then… what about Lady Faltis?”

“She hasn’t told you about this?” Peroy seemed puzzled.

“I haven’t asked about it before. If it’s inconvenient, you don’t have to answer,” Eileen said.

“There’s nothing to hide; it’s practically common knowledge. Faltis first used Grand Magic when she was forty-three, and when she challenged the Golden Dragon Queen, she was… seventy-three.”

Eileen finally understood, a sense of realization washing over her.

The age of dragons could be considered somewhat peculiar. Before roughly fifty years old, five years might not even compare to a single human year. However, after fifty, there was a qualitative leap, with growth occurring in real, substantial time.

Moreover, the most crucial point was that Eileen had heard the previous Golden Dragon Queen had reigned for approximately a hundred years.

Adding the time before she even became the Golden Dragon Queen, a conservative estimate would put her age at over two hundred years. Yet, the seventy-three-year-old Eileen had directly defeated her head-on…

“Lady Faltis is truly terrifyingly strong.”

“You’re not bad yourself; you just had a slightly late start.” Although Peroy wasn’t entirely clear on Eileen’s background, she had certainly witnessed Eileen’s growth rate firsthand.
