Join the ServerAs the obscure, difficult-to-understand syllables rolled past her lips and teeth, the magic within Milly’s body began to surge frantically, as if trying to burst through her flesh and mold those inhuman demonic features.
Milly leaned against the mirror, staring intently at her own azure eyes.
Every time her true demonic form manifested, those azure eyes would gradually be replaced by a deep crimson. But even as the magic inside her slowly calmed down, the azure in her eyes didn’t fade, and not a single hint of crimson surfaced.
“Failed, huh.”
It was pretty much as she expected; Milly hadn’t actually counted on suddenly succeeding after failing so many times before.
Without her true demonic form, her own magical intensity would definitely drop a little, but thanks to her status as a hero, the buff applied by the Goddess’s blessing actually elevated her magical strength somewhat.
Even though Milly didn’t know any other magic and could only discharge electricity anyway.
On second thought, however, she seemed to have fallen into the trap of conventional thinking.
Previously, after revealing her true demonic form, her magical strength had indeed been much higher than in her human form. But now, with the buff brought by her hero status, her electricity form was actually a bit stronger than her little demon form.
Following conventional thinking, Milly naturally assumed that the little demon form revealing her true nature would be stronger than her human body, meaning her magical intensity would increase.
But right now, she was, after all, under the effects of a hero’s buff. Who knew if transforming back into a demon then would cause a negative reaction of rejection, which might inversely weaken her magical strength.
That possibility couldn’t be ruled out, but compared to the physical recovery speed of her little demon form, her human body’s recovery speed paled in comparison.
With that form, even if she couldn’t win right away, she could probably just outlast her opponent by relying on that super-strong recovery ability.
Looking at it this way, for Milly, the pros still outweighed the cons. It was better than having no cards to play. Furthermore, with that demonic appearance, she might not even need to pull aggro like a ‘Train Conductor’ and could directly sneak into the city.
After all, no one would ever suspect that the hero chosen by the Goddess, beneath her human exterior, was actually humanity’s mortal enemy—a demon.
She gave the mirror a self-deprecating smile. Because of this demonic identity, Milly had endured far too much. And now, a twist in identity had made her a hero, tasked with defeating the Demon King to save these very humans. Fate truly was a fickle joker.
Her fingertip once again pressed against the manifesting thorn sigil. Before Stacy returned, she could still continue attempting to transform.
It was just that the obscure language she used to blurt out uncontrollably—the obscure language that allowed her to reveal her true demonic form—now had no effect when she actively spoke it.
She had no way to change back into her demon form, as if she had been completely sealed off.
Hadn’t enough of her things already been sealed?
Milly sighed helplessly. Looking at herself in the mirror, she noticed that, perhaps due to channeling her magic, golden specks of light began to drill out from between her brows. They eventually coalesced into a golden rune stamped on her forehead, while the scattered golden particles converged into tiny golden chains that extended deep into her mind.
If she could deal with these chains reaching deep into her mind, perhaps she could break the seal set by that old fool. However, how could it be that simple? Even a monster like Stacy hadn’t managed to crack it.
Milly extended a fingertip and waved it in front of her forehead. Her finger passed right through the golden chains without any obstruction, yet the chains she passed through remained entirely unaffected.
Even knowing that doing this would probably be completely useless, a tiny spark of lightning still leaped from Milly’s fingertip, aiming at the golden chains—resulting in a sudden jolt of electrical pain…
Clutching her shocked forehead, she had to admit that hurt quite a bit. Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw the electric shock had left a red mark on her forehead, which would probably take a while to fade.
If Stacy were to come in later, Milly would have a hard time explaining the red mark on her forehead. She couldn’t very well tell her she accidentally bumped it.
Honestly… she knew full well it would likely have no effect, yet she stubbornly insisted on trying. Was it sheer stupidity, or was she clinging to a fluke mentality, hoping it might just succeed?
Now there was only one last method left unused, but bringing this thing out carried a certain amount of risk, and she might end up harming herself if things went wrong.
This thing was far more dangerous than electrical currents. However, Milly still decided to give it another try. She just needed to control it carefully and only touch the golden rune. If it had no effect, she would naturally just retract it.
Opening her palm, accompanied by a tearing pain from its center, a pitch-black tentacle drilled out of Milly’s hand.
The writhing tentacle searched around for potential targets, but besides Milly, there were no other targets here.
Even if it was just a tentacle, it realized there was a problem; Milly couldn’t have summoned it just to let it get some fresh air.
But in the end, it was merely a tentacle and didn’t possess the capacity for thought. Under Milly’s control, it began to continuously draw near the golden rune on her forehead.
The moment they made contact, a few golden chains snapped, and even the golden rune itself grew a bit dimmer.
Was there hope?
But before Milly could control the tentacle to start stirring the rune, the tentacle seemingly broke free from her control and violently retracted back into Milly’s palm.
Yikes… this felt bad. The protective strength of this seal seemed quite high. Stacy’s virus tentacle, although it caused some impact, had no way of completely breaching it.
Still, having been impacted a little, it should be able to liberate a portion of her sealed abilities, right?
Reaching out her palm, specks of starlight began to gather within it. Seeing the situation in her palm, Milly felt a surge of joy in her heart, but before the shape of a sword hilt could even materialize, the specks of starlight completely dissipated.
Looking back at the golden rune on her forehead, she saw that the broken chains had also been restored to their original state, looking as if they hadn’t been affected at all.
Milly sighed helplessly. She had thought that trying a few more times might just break it, but it turned out this thing also possessed self-repairing capabilities. Relying solely on her own meager strength, it seemed highly unlikely she could crack it. She could only wait until they got out to see if that girl Stacy had any way to break it.
She reached up and rubbed the red mark left on her forehead by the electric shock. That was about enough trying for today; continuing to try wouldn’t yield any new results.
Before Milly could walk over to the bed and lie down to close her eyes for a brief nap, the sound of knocking came from outside the door.
Without realizing it, it seemed she had actually been trying for quite a while. At this hour, it was either a nun coming to relay a message, or Stacy had returned.
Running barefoot to the door with a patter-patter sound, she opened it and saw Stacy holding a meal tray.
“Sorry, dealing with matters held me up a bit. I’m a little late.”
Carrying a hint of apology, Stacy placed the meal tray in her hand on the round wooden table by the window. When her gaze turned towards Milly, she noticed the red mark on her forehead.
“Milly, what happened to you?”
