Chapter 36: The Arbiter’s Arrival and a Genius’s Challenge

“Given her potential, she would most likely achieve the ‘Flower’ rank, with even a slim chance of reaching the ‘Snow’ rank.”

“‘Snow rank?’ Haikong furrowed his brow, a hint of skepticism in his voice. ‘Wumi, I believe you’re overestimating her abilities slightly.’”

Wumi offered no reply, her gaze fixed instead on Yun Que.

She possessed the rare ability to discern a person’s true nature, and what Wumi saw in Yun Que was an almost terrifying adaptability.

Yet, she had also perceived something more.

“No wonder that esteemed individual has also come,” Wumi murmured softly.

“Wumi, what did you see?” Haikong stepped forward, pressing for an answer.

He had partnered with Wumi for over a century since joining the Tribunal, fighting their way up from the lowest ranks to their current standing.

Haikong could often decipher Wumi’s thoughts from a mere glance or gesture. This wasn’t mind-reading, but rather an unspoken understanding cultivated over a hundred years.

Wumi merely shook her head, offering no explanation.

“Miss Beggar, would you be interested in joining our Tribunal as a general helper?” Haikong then inquired of Yun Que.

Yun Que’s clothes were truly tattered, prompting Haikong to refer to her as “Miss Beggar.”

Haikong now felt fortunate that Yun Que carried no unpleasant scent; otherwise, he would likely have been unable to resist striking her with a punch.

Given Yun Que’s current strength, a single blow from Haikong would undoubtedly be fatal.

“I…”

“There’s no need to rush.” A voice resonated through the air.

A young woman suddenly materialized before Haikong and Wumi, clad in the standard white robes of a Tribunal member.

However, the emblem on her chest was a shimmering disk, glowing with moonlight, much like a full moon itself.

The young woman possessed neat, shoulder-length black hair and deep, enigmatic eyes that seemed to pierce through everything. An aura of authority emanated from her entire being.

‘What is this oppressive feeling?’ Yun Que thought, feeling as though she would be crushed into dust by the boundless pressure simply by standing beside the young woman.

Upon seeing the young woman, Wumi and Haikong’s expressions grew solemn. They extended their right hands to their chests and bowed slightly to her.

This was the Tribunal’s etiquette for subordinates greeting their superiors, indicating that the young woman before them held a higher rank than their own.

“I’ve said before, there’s no need for such formalities,” the young woman stated. “Wumi, if you could overcome your overly casual habits, perhaps in a few centuries, you might advance even further.”

“My Lady, I am already a ‘Snow’ rank member. The next step is ‘Moon’ rank, and since ancient times, the Tribunal has only ever had four ‘Moon’ rank members,” Wumi replied with a wry smile.

“No matter how exceptional I become, how could I possibly reach your heights? How can the light of a firefly contend with the sun and moon?”

“There’s no need for such excessive humility. I know your capabilities,” the young woman simply responded to Wumi.

“Then, thank you for your support, My Lady.”

“Um, excuse me… what is this mirror for?” Yun Que, who had been silent for a long time, finally spoke up.

“Oh, this? This is used to test your aptitude. Let me see… your aptitude is upper-middle, which makes you a genius among ordinary people,” Wumi explained.

“Testing aptitude?” Yun Que seemed puzzled.

“Shouldn’t aptitude tests involve placing a hand on a stone tablet to display one’s Qi stage? Or walking through a field of flowers to show one’s elemental affinity as A, B, C, or D?”

“At the very least, there should be a crystal ball where you place your hand to display your soul power level, right?”

“It’s measured just by looking in a mirror…? It feels a bit like a scam.”

Silence descended. For a moment, both the suddenly appearing young woman and the standing Haikong and Wumi were stunned.

“How should I answer her question?” Haikong inquired.

“Don’t look at me; I don’t know either,” Wumi replied, casting a glance at the black-haired young woman.

The black-haired young woman pinched her chin with her right hand, clearly a little bewildered herself.

It was then that Yun Que noticed the young woman wore white gloves.

Combining this with Wumi’s earlier words, Yun Que now understood the mysterious young woman’s identity.

Within the Tribunal, her status was second only to the Grand Inquisitor, one of the four Arbiters who oversaw the Execution Court: White Glove, Anka.

“Oh-ho, it seems our Miss Beggar has already guessed my identity,” Anka chuckled.

In that moment, Yun Que felt an immense surge of panic. The thought of having just joked with such a high-ranking figure made her feel utterly doomed.

Would she now be killed and thrown into a bar for having stepped with her left foot first?

“Don’t let my appearance deceive you; I’m actually a good person,” Anka said, seemingly sensing Yun Que’s nervousness, attempting to reassure her.

Clearly, disbelief was etched all over Yun Que’s face.

“Have I stumbled into some internal Tribunal gathering? How are there several Execution Court members here, and even the Arbiter who commands the Execution Court?”

Another long black-haired young woman arrived, none other than Seraphina, who had been tracking Felicia’s traces.

“I remember you. The future head of the Morningstar family, a genius seen once in a millennium,” Anka turned, looking at the suddenly appearing Seraphina.

Haikong and Wumi stood beside Anka, one on each side.

“And two ‘Snow’ rank members… I recall the Tribunal’s internal ranking is divided into five tiers: the lowest D-rank trainees, followed by the four official ranks of Wind, Flower, Snow, and Moon,” Seraphina walked towards the trio.

“There’s a ‘Moon’ rank Arbiter and two ‘Snow’ ranks here. Why would you all be in such a barren place?”

“And how is it that the future head of the Morningstar family, esteemed as she is, appears in this place?” Wumi’s tone was charged with hostility, as if a fight with Seraphina could erupt at any moment.

“Geniuses, huh? My favorite thing is to clip the wings of those who think too highly of themselves,” Haikong licked his lips.

“Let me see for myself if you, this once-in-a-millennium genius, are truly as formidable as the legends claim.”

The next instant, Haikong’s figure vanished.

“Haikong!” Wumi realized what Haikong intended to do and quickly moved to stop him.

“No need,” Anka said, extending a hand to restrain Wumi.

“But…”

“He knows his limits,” Anka replied.

A dagger suddenly appeared at Seraphina’s throat. Just a fraction closer, and the young woman’s windpipe would be mercilessly pierced.

The one holding the dagger was Haikong.

“Hmm… a very unique ability. It’s not spatial movement; if it were, I should have sensed spatial fluctuations.

“But when you appeared before me just now, I detected nothing at all.

“This must be an ability to phase into an alternate dimension, isn’t it? By entering another dimension and then instantly reappearing in the real world, you execute assassinations without a trace.

“Your identity is also clear: Dimensional Killer, Haikong, the Left Attendant to an Arbiter of the Execution Court.”

“You are quite perceptive,” Haikong retracted his dagger. “Why didn’t you counterattack or block just now? I don’t believe you couldn’t even handle one of my moves.”

“You wouldn’t kill me,” Seraphina responded. “Just as the Arbiter said, you know your limits.”

“Hmph,” Haikong scoffed. The next moment, he reappeared beside Anka.

“What is her strength like?” Anka inquired.

“I don’t know, but in terms of aura, she’s slightly stronger than me. In a life-or-death battle, it would be a three-to-seven split, with me taking three.”

Anka remained silent, lost in thought.
